Billie's pov
The next day felt like something out of a dream. Everything about it was just... right. There was this quiet anticipation in the air, and I could tell it wasn't just me. Heavenly seemed different today-more open, more herself. There was something about the way her eyes met mine, something in the way her lips curved when she smiled at me. I don't know if she realized it, but it felt like she was letting her walls down just a little more, and I wasn't going to waste the opportunity.
We spent the day together again, just like we had the day before. The whole thing felt like we were building to something, but neither of us said it out loud. We went to a cute little café for breakfast, our fingers brushing whenever we reached for the same piece of fruit or a napkin. The smallest things made me feel like I was walking on air. Heavenly was so warm, so genuine, and it made my heart flutter in a way I didn't know I was capable of.
We walked down by the beach after that, the salty air tangling our hair and the sun dipping low in the sky, casting everything in a soft golden glow. Heavenly had this way of laughing-low and carefree-and it made me feel like everything else didn't matter. All the messy parts of life seemed distant.
"Race you to the water!" I shouted, already taking off before she had a chance to react.
She laughed, her voice light and teasing as she chased after me. We reached the edge of the beach at the same time, the water splashing at our feet. Heavenly bent down to grab a shell, holding it up for me to see like it was the most precious thing in the world.
"Look at this one!" she exclaimed, and I couldn't help but smile.
Her joy was infectious, and it made me want to share that happiness with her in a way I couldn't explain. I felt a flutter in my chest as I looked at her, the way the sun kissed her skin and the way she always seemed to make everything better without even trying.
We continued walking along the beach, talking about everything and nothing all at once. As we made our way back to the car, the world around us seemed to fade into the background, like it was just us in this perfect little bubble.
Finally, as the evening grew cooler and we were both tired from the day, we decided to head back. As I drove, I couldn't shake the feeling that something had shifted between us. It wasn't just the fun moments anymore, or the easy conversations. There was this undeniable pull between us, and I was starting to feel something that I hadn't felt in a long time-hope.
When we got back to Finneas' place, the house was quiet. It felt like the perfect moment. I didn't want to let the night end yet. We stood outside for a minute, the door still open behind us, the soft hum of the house in the distance.
Heavenly was staring up at the stars, her face peaceful. She looked so beautiful in that moment-vulnerable, yet strong.
"Hey," I said softly, my voice almost a whisper. She turned toward me, her eyes meeting mine.
"Yeah?" she replied, her voice soft but full of curiosity.
I took a step closer, feeling my heartbeat quicken. I could feel the warmth of her body, the way her breath caught in her throat when she noticed how close we were.
"I know we've been taking things slow," I began, my words coming out in a rush. "But I need to tell you something."
She tilted her head, her eyes searching mine. I couldn't stop looking at her lips, the way they curved so perfectly, the way they made my heart race just thinking about them.
"I'm... I'm starting to feel something for you, Heavenly," I said, the words feeling both thrilling and terrifying all at once. "More than just... friendship."
Her breath hitched, and I could see her chest rise and fall in that way that made my pulse quicken. She didn't say anything right away, and for a second, I thought I'd messed it all up, that maybe I'd moved too fast. But then she took a small step toward me, and my heart stuttered in my chest.
Her voice was quiet but steady when she spoke. "I think I might feel the same way," she whispered.
The words seemed to hang in the air between us, and before I could say anything else, I closed the small distance between us. I reached up, my fingers brushing against her cheek, and I leaned in, slowly, almost as if I was asking for permission.
Her eyes flickered down to my lips, and for a second, I thought she was going to pull away. But instead, she closed her eyes, her lips parting slightly, and I took that as the green light. I pressed my lips to hers, slowly, tentatively at first, just barely grazing them.
When our lips finally met, everything around us faded. It was like time stood still. Her lips were soft and warm, and as I kissed her deeper, I felt a spark, a rush that made my entire body shiver. It wasn't frantic or desperate; it was slow, like we were savoring the moment, letting the intensity build.
Her hands slowly cupped my face, and I deepened the kiss, feeling her body lean into mine. A soft moan escaped her, and it made my heart race. I never wanted this moment to end. The way she responded to me, the way she melted into the kiss, made everything feel right.
Every part of me, from the tips of my fingers to the depths of my heart, felt alive in a way I couldn't put into words. The kiss felt like a promise, like something I had been waiting for without realizing it. Her lips against mine were gentle but full of this unspoken intensity, and as we pulled away just enough to breathe, I could feel her forehead rest against mine.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding, still feeling the warmth of her lips on mine.
"That was..." I started, my voice hushed, but I didn't know how to finish the sentence.
Heavenly's eyes were wide, and for a moment, she just looked at me, like she was searching for something in my expression. Then she smiled-softly, like she was letting herself believe in something.
"That was magic," she whispered.
And I couldn't agree more.
