UNDER ARREST
[1×02]

AYLA WENT BACK TO SCHOOL THE MONDAY AFTER THE FULL MOON. She needed to get back to some kind of normal as much as she hated school. It was a good distraction at least. She could hang out with Allison and Lydia and pretend her world hadn't fallen apart the week before.

She had only just gotten home a few minutes ago when she heard yelling outside.

"Derek!" Scott had yelled. "Derek!"

Ayla frowned, standing up and going to the window. She could see Scott standing outside, practically fuming. "Stay away from her! She doesn't know anything," he told Derek.

The older Hale walked off the porch, moving towards the younger werewolf. "Yeah? What if she does? You think you're little buddy Stiles can just google werewolves and now you've got all the answers, is that it? You don't get it yet, Scott, but I'm looking out for you. Think about what could happen. You're out on the field, the aggression takes over and you shift in front of everyone," Derek told him. He noticed that Scott had dropped his things on the ground and reached down to pick up the teenager's lacrosse stick. "Your mom, all your friends, and when they see you, everything falls apart," he said, tearing through the net with his claws. Derek tossed the ruined lacrosse stick into the air and Scott looked up to catch it. When he looked back towards Derek, the werewolf was gone.

The front door opened and Ayla stepped out. Scott looked at her in surprise as she walked towards him. His anger quickly faded as she stepped off the porch.

"Can you please tell him this is unfair?" Scott asked her.

She shook her head, arms crossed over her chest. "Derek's right. It's about safety, Scott. Either you'll hurt someone or a hunter will put together what you are. Your social life comes second now," she told him.

"So you had to let everyone down when you turned?" he asked her.

Ayla narrowed her eyes at him. If this was her, she wouldn't even be going to school. When she had turned, her mom had been so worried about hunters and moving again that Ayla spent a week at home. "Scott, let's not try to make comparisons about our lives. The world may seem like it sucks for you right now, but it's been like this for me for three years. You get used to it," she told him, walking away.

Scott sighed, leaving the house.

To say Ayla was pissed was an understatement right now. She was currently being placed in the back of a cop car, while Derek was put in another. Scott was standing next to Stiles' jeep, watching. Both Hales glared at the teenager as they were placed in the cop cars.

Apparently, Scott had caught the scent of Laura's buried body and called the cops on Derek thinking the werewolf had killed her. Derek was the one actually being arrested for being in possession of the body. Ayla was being taken in for questioning, given that the two lived together.

A cop placed the teenager in the back of the car and then closed the door, leaving her alone inside the vehicle.

"Ayla?" She scoffed as she heard Scott say her name from where he was standing by himself. "Ayla, please," he said.

"What do you want, Scott?" she wondered.

"Look, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to get you in trouble. But Derek had the body. Me and Stiles had to say something," he told her.

"Do not make this about getting justice for her. You didn't know her, you couldn't care less about finding who killed her. All you care about is getting Derek out of the way so you can play the game," she snapped.

"That's not it," he said.

"Yes, it is, Scott. And you can pretend it isn't all you want, but in the end you know I'm right," she told him.

She heard him release a sigh. "Look, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to hurt you," he told her.

"Then you're doing a pretty crappy job," she said.

"Ayla, please," he said.

"Scott, please, just stay the hell away from me," she told him. She then tuned out the werewolf, not wanting to listen to him. She looked at the window, seeing Stiles being pulled from Derek's police car by the Sheriff. The man was scolding his son, which made Ayla smile slightly. At least until she heard another voice call her name. "Derek?"

"Don't tell them anything," he told her.

"Derek, come on," she said.

"Ayla, keep your mouth shut, okay? If they ask, you had no idea," Derek told her.

"There's no way I'm letting you get arrested for this. It's not fair," Ayla told him.

"It's doesn't matter. It's better than you being arrested for it," Derek snapped.

Ayla sighed. "If I lose you, I'm alone. I love Dad but he's human. He won't help me figure out what happened to Mom and he can't help me figure all this crap out," she told him.

"You're not losing me, okay?" he asked.

Ayla frowned. "It's really starting to feel like I might, Der," she told him.

He didn't say anything for a moment. "Just don't say anything, Ayla," he told her. She sighed, sitting back in the car.

Now at the police station, Ayla sat across from the Sheriff.

"So you didn't notice that the ground had been dug up?" the man asked her.

Ayla shrugged. "Why would I care?" she wondered. As much as a part of her hated it, she knew she could play clueless, sixteen year old girl well.

"And I'm guessing you didn't care that you were staying in an abandoned house either?" he asked.

Ayla sent him a look. "In case you're unaware, my family lost basically everything in a fire a few years ago. Believe it or not, but this isn't the first time I've lived in an abandoned building," she told him.

He sighed. "So you just had no idea?" he wondered.

"Didn't seem important. Are we done here? I'm missing the game," she told him.

Eventually, the police released both Hales due to the fact that the medical examiner had decided Laura had been killed by an animal attack. Given that both Derek and Ayla were human- at least to the police- it was decided that they couldn't have killed her.

Once they were allowed to leave, they headed to the game. It had ended only moments before. Everyone was leaving and Scott had left the field, but no one had been hurt.

Ayla frowned as she saw Jackson picking up a glove, which had holes at the end of the fingers. Ayla quickly put together that it was Scott's.

"Well, at least nobody got hurt," Derek muttered.

"I wouldn't be too sure of that yet," Ayla told him, moving to walk towards the locker room.

Derek grabbed her arm to stop her. "You can't hurt him," he told her.

Ayla turned to send him a look. "Watch me," she said, trying to pull her arm free. He held on though, making her turn to glare at him. "Let me go," Ayla told him.

"He needs our help," Derek told her.

"And I need my mom but life isn't fair some times," Ayla snapped, pulling herself free. She knew he had let her, which only added to her anger.

"Ayla, you know I'm right," he told her.

"We just spent our evening in a police station because of him. They took Mom's body, because of him," she snapped.

"Because he's scared just like you were," Derek reminded.

"Which is my problem how?" Ayla asked, her voice rising. "You didn't turn him, Derek! He's not our responsibility and I'm done acting like he is."

"We can use him to find the alpha, but he has to be the one in control to do that. That is what I need you to remember here," Derek told her.

"If you want to use him, then fine. But that's your problem. I'm done. As long as I get to help kill whoever took my mother from me, I don't care what happens to Scott," she told him, walking off.

So, Ayla's relationship with Scott and Stiles is gonna get off to a rocky start. Also, sorry if this chapter is kind of awful. I just needed to get it covered.
