Shaynes POV
I close the door and walk toward Damiens car. Both Courtney and Damien lean out of the windows of the car and cat call me.
"Ayyyeeee Shayne with the lady skills," Courtney yells at me.
"I see you Shayne!!" Damian whoops.
I sit in the back seat and Damien pulls out of the driveway, heading to take Courtney home.
"She was soooo into you," Damien starts.
"Really? How could you tell?" I sit up in my seat, needing to know the answer.
"She was looking at you every 3 minutes when I was talking to her," Courtney explained.
"There was a sparkle in her eyes when you talked to her, and what you said to her after her roommate made the toast was the nicest thing i've ever heard you said." Damien glances at you in the rear-view mirror. "You two have chemistry," he smiles.
My mind processed their comments as I looked out of the window. I thought she was beautiful when I saw her at the gym but seeing her all dolled up she was stunning. From her hair to her shoes everything fit her perfectly. Her hair framed her face to accentuate her cheek bones and freckles (congrats you have freckles, oh and dimples), when she smiled it made her cheek dimple only on the right side of her face. Her eyes lit up when she talked about nursing and her passion, her personality was intoxicating and her aura was so warm. I could spend hours with her and never get bored, it'll be interesting to see her interact with my friends tomorrow night. I know Olivia will love her, and Noah will too but I don't know how she'll get along with Keith.
We say goodbye to Courtney as she gets out and Damien takes us home.
...
My alarms jolts me awake, causing me to abruptly sit up and blink a couple of times. Rolling over in my bed I grab my phone, scrolling through my notifications from the night before. I have a couple unread messages and a million twitter notifications. I forgot I had tweeted some old draft while at y/n's party last night, so I delete the notifications. Clicking on the messages tab I see two people have messaged me.
2:33am: Nicole: missing you lately, come to my place Wednesday night for some fun ;)
3:21am: y/n: can't stop thinking about the nice things you said to me tonight, it meant a lot to hear you say. excited to get some one on one time with you Wednesday evening and meet your other friends tomorrow night! :)
My brain pulled me in so many directions. I really liked y/n, but small pieces of me still had feelings for Nicole. Her and I had so many good memories but at the same time she burned me pretty bad in the end. I never really recovered from the situation at the end.
... (flashback)
Nicole kissed me goodbye as she was heading to leave my place, her phone rings breaking up our hug.
"Who's that?" I wonder, trying to see her phone screen.
"Oh nobody, don't worry about it," she pecks my cheek and leaves.
Recently she hasn't been around much. I ask her to come over or hang out with my friends and she tells me she's busy more often than not. She's been posting more on Instagram and has recently gotten a brand new hermes bag. I invited her to coffee one afternoon and she had it with her.
The conversation was dry, she was on her phone pretty often.
"Hey so uh, where'd you get the new bag from? I looks really nice." I chuckle, trying not to sound too upfront.
"Oh from a friend," She glances up from her phone and quickly glances at me and the bag before returning to her screen.
"That's one generous friend," I look out the window.
"Yeah more than you are," she scoffs.
"What?" I'm taken aback.
"You don't spoil me like you used to." she crosses her arms and shoots you an unsatisfied glance.
"Nicole you know Smosh just went under and we don't have a parent company to pay us. Plus The Goldbergs are between seasons so I don't have extra money. " I look at her, she knew that already.
"Well maybe I should find someone that does." She mocks me.
"Nicole I don't understand," I say as she grabs her stuff.
"You don't have to, I'm leaving you for someone who can offer me more. Speaking of, he's here." She turns and pushes the door open.
A blacked out Lamborghini pulls up and she gets in, kissing a scruffy looking man.
I wouldn't consider myself someone who is easily angered, but thinking about what just happened made me feel furious. As I drove home I was so deep in thought that I didn't turn on the radio.
I slam the door shut and scare Damien who's cooking something in the kitchen.
"Dude what the hell?" he comes around the corner hastily.
"Sorry man......I-I just.......I'm sorry." I can't find words that could start to explain what's going one.
"What's going on?" He steps closer, noticing the sorrow on my face.
I tell the story from when I first questioned where she was to now. Damien looks at me, speechless. He wraps me in a tight hug, pats me on the back, and walks back to the kitchen.
"I'm sorry man, that must hurt." He says as he walks away.
The next couple weeks I found myself to be pretty reserved and kept to myself, not wanting to explain to everyone what was going on. In the process of healing I found it in my best interest to focus on the gym and work, compartmentalizing my thoughts to avoid memories of Nicole and I.
...(Friday night out)
Meeting y/n allowed my brain to ignore thoughts of Nicole and replace them with new ones of y/n. The charm y/n possessed was one that sucked you into liking her immediately, which I was okay with. I put on a white t-shirt, light wash jeans, and my pink vans.
I was curious to know what my friends would think of y/n. I know that Courtney and Damien have met her, but I want to see how she interacts with Olivia, Noah, and Keith.
As a group we leave from work and go there. As I drive, Courtney's phone dings and she gasps.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"y/n is coming! She's coming from studying at the library so 'don't expect much' she says," her eyes stay typing on her phone as we pull into the parking lot.
Olivia hops out and runs towards Keith as he gets out of Damiens car.
"KEIITH!" she screams as she runs towards him, arms wide.
"girl I just saw you at work, why you gotta act like you haven't seen me in months," he doesn't reciprocate her hug, but laughs as she squeezes.
The bar wasn't too packed but it is busy. As we order our drinks Damien finds us a corner of the bar with enough room to chat. The DJ is playing music that makes Keith dance, Courtney and Olivia join Keith and I shuffle to do the same laughing at how bad we are compared to him. I loved being able to work with people this fun. In the back of my mind was the thought of y/n and if she was going to come.
An hour passes and still no sight of y/n, i'm starting to get worried that something is wrong but don't want to pressure her to come if she doesn't want to. I walk over to Courtney and grab her attention.
"Have you heard from y/n? I'm starting to get worried." I wince slightly.
"No, but she didn't mention when she ended studying if she decided last minute to go home first." she shrugs.
"Oh okay." I frown a bit.
"Don't worry," she pats my shoulder "I'm sure she'll be here in a little bit."
"Hey Shayne, when's this girl you've been talking about going to show?" Keith places his elbow on my shoulder.
"Not sure, she's studying so she may be a little later." I shake my head.
"Oh so she's in school? Like high school or?" he sounds shocked.
"No dummy she's in nursing school at UCLA," I give him a displeased look.
"Ohhh that makes more sense," he sips his drink and walks away.
As I turn to see him walk away, y/n walks into the door causing my mouth to drop open.
She has on a tight silver sequin dress that hits her mid-thigh. The neckline drops into a deep v, exposing her cleavage slightly and goes over her shoulder in thin straps. Her shoes are pointed toe black heels that make her butt look perky. Her hair is straight and lips bright red. As she enters the bar she takes a sweeping look around the building missing my gaze by a couple of people. She walks forward, heading to the bar to grab a drink when she's stopped. A pair of girls that are vaguely familiar to me walk her into the opposite corner of the room, bringing her to a round top table where a blonde is sitting with her back to me. The blonde turns and smiles as y/n approaches the table. Nicole gives a squinted smile and looks y/n up and down. She is saying something to her and y/n looks like she's doing okay, just having a conversation.
A hand grabs my shoulder and Damien checks in on me. "Hey dude, doing okay? You're just staring off into the crowd." he blocks my view of the girls.
My head leans to look around him, no words come out of my mouth as my hand comes up to point at the girls causing him to turn and look in that direction.
"There's no way that's-" before he can finish I cut him off.
"Nicole and y/n." I sigh. "Should I do something?"
"No, I think y/n can handle herself." He places his arm against my chest, holding me back from moving towards the girls.
Damien and I watch the girls as they converse. y/n's face is neutral, but she is definitely not smiling or looking happy. Every minute or two Nicole lets out a fake and overblown laugh like what y/n said was a joke, but she wasn't trying to be funny. After a couple of minutes of Nicole laughing periodically the group head to the bathroom one of the girls holding y/n's hand, almost pulling her.
...
Maybe 10 minutes pass and Nicole and her friends walk out of the bathroom, y/n nowhere in sight. She walks towards me and has a smug smile on her face.
"See you Wednesday," she says, grabbing my chin with her hand and pulling me into a kiss.
I pull back and see a girl yelling for help from the bathroom door.
"That's my cue to leave," she smiles and the other girls laugh, they exit.
A bouncer runs into the bathroom and before the door closes he calls for someone to call 911. Everyone crowds around the door and I glance at Damien who is also starting to head towards the bathroom. You can hear erratic breathing from someone that is coming from the bathroom but can't see who it is. A few seconds after trying to get closer to the bathroom, the bouncer starts yelling for everyone to move as he carries a girl in a silver dress, covered in blood. My mind screams what I already know, and Damien is the first to say anything.
"Holy sh-t dude," his eyes meet mine, pure panic plastered on his face.
"Wait we know her! Let us help you!!" I scream after the bouncer as he pushes through the crowd.
