This oneshot is about the time Sourav Ganguly aka Dada was playing his last match as an Indian Cricketer

~~~~~~~
Mahi couldn't believe his ears what he had just heard. Sourav Ganguly, his beloved Dada, had decided to retire from international cricket.
He was so angry that he had decided not to talk to the man no matter what.
Mahi planned to ignore his big brother as punishment for taking such a big decision without informing him first.
Unfortunately for him, his plan didn't last very long because Dada knew his kids a little too well.
Once the ignoring plan failed, Mahi went back to acting like the stubborn kid that he was and took every possible opportunity to be pampered by his Dada.
~~~~~~~

The match was going well and Mahi was happy until his Dada got out on a duck in the second innings.

He couldn't believe that the great Sourav Ganguly was going to leave international cricket with a golden duck.

The match went on with Mahi scoring yet another half century before guiding his bowlers to stop the opposition from chasing their set target.

The great Sourav Ganguly was playing his last international match, but Mahi couldn't think of a deserving farewell gesture from his side for his former captain.

He had been careful not to mention anything about his idea in front of anyone because if his Dada heard about it then he would immediately put a stop to it.

~~~~~~~
On the last day of the test match Sourav Ganguly was given a guard of honour since it was the last time, he would be walking on the cricket field to represent his country.
During the lunch break, Sachin Paaji was talking to Dada about how the day he was playing his last match as an Indian cricketer was also the day he first walked out as the Indian captain a few years ago.
Dada simply smiled because his best friend always seemed to remember all kinds of cricket facts that hadn't really mattered much to him after everything he had been through during the past few years.
Listening to this gave Mahi an idea for the special thing he wanted to do for his Dada and he did his best to maintain a poker face to avoid drawing any unnecessary attention to himself.
~~~~~~~

It was towards the end of the match when India was in a commanding position that Dada was thinking back to the highlights of his illustrious career.

He felt quite detached from the ongoing game as he thought back to all the highs and lows of his long career.

Suddenly his self-musing was interrupted by one of his most special little brothers.

Dada would never say it out loud but the long-haired kid he had met for the first time a few years back had made a very special place in his heart.

He had seen the kid grow up to become the calm and composed captain who had only just started leading the Indian side.

Mahi had come up to his Dada and asked if he would do him a little favour.

Ganguly had an amused expression on his face as he inquired about the 'little' favour that his kid needed.

Mahi says, "Dada, I want you to be the captain for some time."

Dada immediately shakes his head and replies, "No Mahi, you should only lead your team."

Unfortunately, Mahi didn't have enough time, nor did he have an argument ready, so he dropped the topic for now.

After a few overs Dada wasn't surprised to see the kid come back to him with the exact same request.

Just as his big brother was about to say no again, Mahi says, "Dada you said that I should only lead my team but technically this is your team. Please thodi der ke liye hi bas captain ban jao."

Dada realises that he won't be able to win this argument so instead he replies, "First tell me why you want me to captain the team."

Mahi understands that he's almost won the argument and smiles as he says, "Because this is your last match and I want to do something special for you. Ek last time hum sab ko apne Dada ki captaincy enjoy karne do na."

Dada couldn't help but agree to the request, before shaking his head at the way his Mahiya's eyes lit up when he finally agreed.

By now all the Indian players had learnt about the little gesture that Mahi had in mind as a farewell gift for Dada and were extremely happy to be playing under the leadership of the great Sourav Ganguly one last time.

Dada started guiding the bowlers and made some changes in the field placements.

Sachin Paaji came up to his best friend and happily hugged him, before going to his fielding position.

Dada and Paaji chuckled a little when they noticed how Mahi had a little skip in his steps ever since Dada had taken charge.

~~~~~~~
A few overs later Dada had enough and he ordered Mahi to take charge once again.
He couldn't stop smiling at how his grown-up kid looked a little down before he went back to captain mode.
It had always amused Dada to see how his Mahiya seemed to have a switch to go from being an immature kid to a mature leader in a snap.
India won the match comfortably and also the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
After the match, the team gave a lap of honour to Dada and Anil Bhai since they were both taking retirement.
In the dressing room the support staff organised for a cake for the two players taking retirement from international cricket that day.
It was after the cake cutting that Dada noticed that his Mahiya seemed to be uncharacteristically down all of a sudden.
He knew that the kid wasn't as social as some of his party animal friends, but Mahi seemed to be lost in his own thoughts unless someone went up to talk to him.
Mahi even left the party quietly from the back, something he didn't normally do unless someone opened a bottle of alcohol in the dressing room.
Just then Sachin Paaji comes up to Dada and asks, "Kiske khayaalo me dooba hai re?"
Dada replies, "Mahi kisi baat ko lekar pareshaan hai. He just slipped out of the room quietly even though no one has opened an alcohol bottle here."
Sachin Paaji says, "Maybe he's tired. Bataayega thodi woh agar thaka bhi hua toh."
Dada shakes his head and replies, "Nahi yaar. Post match presentation se dekh raha hu. Something is up with him."
Sachin Paaji says, "Well I'll try to keep these kids busy while you go check up on your favourite one. And don't even try to deny it because hum dono ko pata hai ki tera Mahiya thoda zyaada hi pyaara hai tujhe."
Dada smiles and replies, "Thanks Sach" before he cheekily adds, "Have fun"
Sachin Paaji simply shoots him a look because they both knew that handling all the kids together was not at all a fun job.
~~~~~~~

Dada was looking for his stubborn kid in all the places he could possibly be in before going to check Mahi's room.

He wasn't surprised to see the door open but what surprised him was that Mahi wasn't in his room.

Dada entered the room and looked around before spotting his kid sitting on the balcony floor.

He quietly approached his Mahiya so as to not startle him when he noticed that he was lost in his thoughts looking at something on his phone.

Alarms went off in his head because this was the kid who almost never knew where his phone was.

Dada sat down beside Mahi, wondering if he got some concerning news from his family before he saw what exactly the kid was looking at on his phone.

Mahi had been looking at a picture of them from the time when he was still quite new in the team.

(This was such an amazing moment from the series where Dada was making a comeback after the Greg Chapel Fiasco)

Dada sat down beside him and softly placed his hand on Mahi's shoulder which made the kid go stiff.

Mahi didn't expect anyone to notice him being gone because he expected that some alcohol bottles would be opened soon enough and everyone in the team knew that he couldn't bear the smell.

He should have known that his Dada would notice his absence and come looking for him, but he couldn't really bring himself to look at him at the moment.

Dada noticed that Mahi didn't immediately turn around softly asks, "Mahiya, kya hua bachha? Yahaan aise akele kyu baitha hai?"

Listening to the concern in his voice broke something inside him and Mahi immediately turned around breaking down in his Dada's arms.

Dada was surprised to say the least, but he did his best to console the crying kid whispering sweet nothings to him.

Soon enough Mahi calmed down enough for Dada to says, "Mahiya, bata na ki kya hua? Why are you crying so much? Post match presentation ke baad se dekh raha hu ki tu ek dum shaant ho gaya hai."

Mahi softly replies, "Aaj aapka last match tha"

Dada asks, "So what?"

Mahi replies, "Aap humko chod ke jaa rahe ho"

Dada says, "Mahi, look at me"

Mahi stubbornly shakes his head in denial, so Dada says in a stern tone, "MS, look at me"

Listening to his Dada refer to him as MS instead of Mahi or Mahiya made him realise that he was serious, so Mahi immediately sat up and looked at him.

Dada's heart broke when he saw Mahi's teary eyes, but he took a deep breath to compose himself and asks, "Who told you that I'm leaving you all?"

Mahi simply replies, "You are taking retirement. You won't be coming with us on tours now."

Dada says, "I'm just taking retirement from cricket. I will always be your Dada. Whenever you want to meet me, you can just come to Kolkata. I bet Sana will be very happy to meet her Mahi Chachu."

Mahi whines, "But it's not the same. What if I feel overwhelmed and just want to sleep in your lap? Agar aap saath me nahi honge toh yeh sab kaise hoga?"

Dada says in a teasing tone, "During such times you can always call me. Unlike you, I usually know where my phone is."

Mahi whines again, "Dada, mat chidhao na"

Dada chuckles at how cute the present Indian captain was looking and says, "Achha baba sorry. I won't tease you now."

Mahi again hugs his Dada and replies, "Aaj na aapke under firse khel ke bahut achha laga. Thank you for agreeing."

Dada blankly says, "Tune option chhoda tha kya naa bolne ka. I was peacefully enjoying the match and then you suddenly decide to drop the bomb that you want me to captain the team."

Mahi replies, "You only decided to retire abhi so it's your fault. I had to do something special for my Dada na."

Dada smiles and says, "Thank you, even though it was not necessary. And always remember that my retirement is not a goodbye. I might not be your teammate anymore, but I'll always be your Dada."

Mahi simply hugs his Dada a little more tightly and replies, "And I'll always be your Mahiya."

Dada couldn't help but smile as he kissed his Mahiya's head and they both sat there for some time.

I was so happy to see the special moment when MSD gave the reins to his Dada during the last test in Nagpur

I was really happy with all the cuteness I managed to write in this one
