I don't know if this happens to you guys, comment if it does, but sometimes in a conversation my attention will wander and I will not hear what they say. Then I will realise my mistake and try to cover it up by just saying, "Hmhm," or "Yep," or "That's interesting." I'm sure this is going to land me in trouble one day because someone will tell me they failed a test and I'll just say, "Hmhm, that's interesting indeed," in a tone of voice that would get me threw punches to the face.
