I got into the driver's seat while Marc sat on the passenger's side. After throwing my bag on the backseat, I started the car and began pulling out of the school's now almost empty parking lot.

"Where are we going?" asked Marc I could feel that even though he didn't know what was going on, he was still comfortable and not at all nervous. I felt his eyes on my face, but I kept mine on the road.

"My parents' house." I answered shortly. I wanted to see his reaction so I turned my head towards him. "Your what?" he blurts out with wide eyes.

I smiled and returned my gaze to the road. "I originally planned to move some boxes from their place over to mine with Marie, well Miss Candle to you, but you decided to be a jerk and be late." I explained to him in a clam voice "so I figured you could just help me instead."

Marc nodded his head slightly to show me that he understood where I was coming from.

Silence filled the car. But it was a comfortable one as we made our way through town. Even though we were in the suburbs of New York, everything was close together. The school, my apartment, my parents' house. Marc's house... wait no, don't think about his house. Or his bedroom. Or his bed.

God, dammit, stay focused Mae!

I shook my head as if it would help to get these thoughts out of my mind.

In the middle of my little argument with myself, Marc spoke up and what he said caught me off guard.

"Wow, I didn't think I would meet your parents this soon." He said with a smirk. I could not see it, but I know Marc well enough to know that he's enjoying teasing me.

I did not know what to answer. I could either tell him to stop saying things like that or play along. The teacher side of my brain told me to tell him off, but my personal side told me to go with option number two.

I took another glance at Marc. The sun was shining against his face and made his brown hair and eyes glow. A cocky smile was plastered on his face and he raised an eyebrow, signaling me that he was expecting me to comment on his statement.

"Me neither, believe me." I said. However, I couldn't stay serious and let out a little chuckle. Surprisingly, Marc did the same. It was like the Marc I knew from school, the arrogant jock, slowly disappeared and was replaced by the Marc I got to know back when I was at his house. I liked that he was like this with me. I knew I shouldn't, but I couldn't help being attracted to him.

"We're here." I said once the house I grew up in came into view.

I turned off the ignition and took a deep breath. I knew my parents and my sister would be home. Lilly already knw Marc from her playdates with his sister Emma, but my mom and dad had no idea who he was.

As we approached the front door, I tried to calm myself down.

You're just picking up some boxes. You'll be out there in a couple minutes. Nothing to worry about. Well, except that you're here with your freaking student!

With slightly shaking hands, I searched my bag for my key Once I found it, I opened the door. No one heard us coming in.

"I suppose my family's in the dining room." I took slow steps down the hall while Marc was following behind me. As we neared the dining room, I could hear voices and the sound of knives and forks on porcelain plates.

I turned the corner and saw my family eating lunch. Lilly was the first one to notice us.

"Mae!", she squealed with wide eyes, a surprised look on her face. Usually she always knows when I'll come over, so I guess she was extra excited to see me. "Marc!"

Yep, now she also noticed the boy behind me. Lilly jumped up from her seat and ran towards me. While she was hugging me, my parents also turned around and gave me warm smiles. "Mae, dear, we didn't know you were coming over for lunch today." My mom says.

"It's okay, we're just here to pick up the boxes that are still in my old ro

om." I explained my unplanned visit.

After I said that, I could see that both my parents' gazes went to Marc.

"Uhm, hi.", he said in a shy tone. "I'm Marc. I –"

"He's just here to help me with my boxes." I cut him off. I didn't want him to say anything stupid. "We'll just grab them and then we're off again."

"Mae, wait!" My mom shouted after me, but I was already at the bottom of the stairs that led upstairs to the bedrooms, with one hand grabbed around Marc's wrist so that he followed me.

When we reached my old bedroom, I opened the door and took a quick look around. I didn't want any embarrassing stuff like old underwear or something laying around on full display for my student.

After Marc stepped into the room, I went behind him and quickly shut the door.

"Let's just take the boxes and leave again. My parents, especially my mom, always want to know what's going on in my life and.. I don't really want to explain to her why I brought my English student to the house with me." I sighed.

Marc just stood there and looked at me with a slight smile on his lips.

My room still had a lot of my old toays that did not fit into Lilly's room. There were stuffed animals, board games and also some of my old clothes that did not fit my sister yet. My bed and nightstand were also still there.

"So... why didn't you tell your parents I was your student?" Marc's deep voice interrupted my nostalgic thoughts. I turned around and looked at him. He might have played the shy guy infront of my mom and dad, but now he was back to his usual player ways.

"Didn't feel the need to do that." I answered and walked towards the boxes that stood in the corner opposite the bed.

"There are just five boxes so it won't take that long to put them in my car." Marc nodded and walked towards me.

"Your parents seem nice. They probably make good parents-in-law." I gasped and spun around. Mine and Marc's chests were nearly touching, that's how close we stood together.

"I-I" I stuttered, unable to form any words due to his comment.

Marc chuckled. His right hand slowly made its way up to my head. I wore my hair open and he used his fingers to brush a strand of hair out of my face and placed it behind my ear. He was smiling. A genuine smile. "It was just a statement Mae. Don't overrate it." He whispered, noticing that I was overwhelmed with his words. "But I was serious, though... They'd most likely also really like me. I mean I have that effect on women, no matter how old they are." He smirked. I playfully rolled my eyes and pushed him away from me.

"Your big ego is going to get you in a lot of trouble some day, Mr. Brown." I said, but I couldn't hide my amusement.

"Nah, I don't think so. See, kids love me, as you saw at Emma's birthday party. Your mom would love me after spending five minutes with me. Oh, and most importantly, you love me. That's all the generations gorgeous."

I blushed a little at his nickname for me.

I walked closer to him until our bodies were touching. I could feel his minty breath on my face. I looked up into his brown eyes.

"And why are you so sure that I love you?" I whispered.

"You cannot tell me you feel nothing for me." He quietly whispered back.

I just stared into his eyes. I don't know what I was thinking, but I started to go onto my tip-toes so that my face would be on the same level as his.

I saw him starting to lean in, but I was scared. Scared of how I would react if we would actually kiss. Scared because I knew that a kiss would probably confirm what I had tried to ignore.

That I had feelings for my English student.
