There was a stunned silence in the air. In front of us was Sue Clearwater, someone who was human just a few days ago. And now, she's a vampire and a werewolf.
She had to be the only thing of her kind. I mean, vampire venom was poisonous to a werewolf. It would kill them. So, it's not like we can change werewolves into vampires. She is part of the Quileute tribe, and she does have the werewolf gene inside of her, but there were no vampires around when she should've had the change. Therefor, she didn't change into a vampire, along with every other adult in La Push. I never even dreamed that she could possibly have the ability to change into a werewolf and be a vampire at the same time.
Nobody seemed to be able to speak. Here stood in front of us a large wolf, about the size of a bear or larger, which had become a familiar sight to us between Jacob, Seth, and Leah. But this wolf was so different, and you could just tell. The dark red eyes were so obvious against her dark brown, almost black coat. It was so hard to look at. And her body. Her body was obviously more... rock like than the other wolves. You could see the tint of vampire in her, even when she was in wolf form.
"Sue, if there's anything you would like to say, just think it. Edward and Harry can both read your mind, and they will translate for us." Carlisle said when he came up behind her. I saw Sue give a little nod. Neither Edward or Harry said anything, so I assumed that she didn't have anything to say. She was probably in shock.
"She wants us to ask the questions." Edward said. I looked over to Bella and Renesmee. Renesmee looked completely shocked, yet happy at the same time. I smiled. She probably was excited to have a vampire/werewolf around. She loved her vampires and her werewolves so much, a mix was probably like mixing vanilla and chocolate ice cream.
"Aren't you thirsty?" Emmett asked, staring at the large wolf.
"I'll answer that." Carlisle said. "Yes, she is thirsty. That's the first thing she said when she regained consciousness.
"How are you handling that so easily right now? Bella was very good at controlling herself when she turned into a newborn, but she was still anxious to hunt. You should've seen Charlie! He has been a vampire for four years, and he was ready to get out of here." Alice chimed.
"She's not thirsty." Harry said. "Right after saying she was thirsty, she changed into a werewolf. She thinks that it was just impulse and animal instinct. But the second she got inside that wolf body, there was no thirst. None at all."
There were shocked murmurs among us.
"Can you hear anybody's thoughts in your head? Like, is Leah or Seth around?" Jacob asked, Renesmee's hand in his.
"Yes. She's hearing Leah and Seth freaking out about how there mother is half vampire and half werewolf." Edward said, his velvet-like voice sounding a bit amused.
"Interesting." Carlisle said, looking over Sue like she was a specimen on a lab table. She seemed to notice, and growled a bit in his direction.
I looked over to Alice, who was staring straight forward with clouded over eyes. Jasper had one arm around her waist, and was stroking her short, spiky hair with the other. Bella, Renesmee, and Jacob seemed to notice and were hovering around her, waiting for the vision to end.
Suddenly, Alice was leaning into Jasper, exhaustion on her face. As exhausted as a vampire could possible be. Jasper continued to stroke her hair as everyone stood, waiting for her to say something.
"Jane..." Alice murmured, burying her face into Jasper's chest.
"No! That can't happen!" Edward screamed, punching the wall.
"Edward." Esme cautioned.
"Jane knows Edward's radius for how far away he can read her mind. She stayed just outside of it, watching Carlisle. She knows that we changed Sue and that she can turn into a werewolf." Alice said, her voice shaking.
There was another stunned silence in the air. We were having way too many of these today. We all knew what this meant. The Volturi were coming again, this time for a half vampire half werewolf, not a half human half vampire.
"What are they going to do? It's not like how it was Renesmee. It's much different. Sue is a total vampire that can turn into a giant wolf and hear the thoughts of other pack members. So what? She's not dangerous. Well, she's not any more dangerous than any other newborn vampire." Rosalie said.
"Tell that to the Volturi." Edward growled.
"Enough, Edward." Esme cautioned again.
"We don't know much." Carlisle said. "She's something new, to us and the Volturi. There taking precautions. How much time do we have, Alice?"
"I don't know. Since she's something new to me, I'm in a bit of a blind spot. I saw enough to know that there was sun." Alice said.
"Sun? Well that at least gives us three months, unless Forks go crazy and suddenly becomes a generally sunny place." Rosalie said.
"I don't even think we were here." Alice replied.
"Maybe you and Jasper should go somewhere where you're not going to have any blind spots." Carlisle suggested to Alice.
"Last time they did that, they ran away." Edward said.
"And last time they did that, it ended up saving our lives, Renesmee's, and the lives of 25 other vampires." Carlisle said.
Edward and Carlisle stared at each other for a moment before Edward nodded. Seeing the nod, Jasper grabbed Alice's hand, and they took off together in there vampire speed.
Sue still stood in her wolf form, over by the doorway. Jacob and her seemed to be having a stare down between one another. I felt sorry for Jacob, knowing that it probably slightly disgusted him to have a mixed breed like that. I know now that he wasn't always so hot for the vampires and that the only thing that caused him to warm up to them is Renesmee, because of there imprint.
"The Volturi can't come here. What if there's a fight?" Harry asked.
"I don't know if it will come to that. This situation is almost exactly the same as the last one. We could do the exact same thing we did last time, but they'll be expecting that. It's questionable what we should really do in this situation." Carlisle replied.
"Sue wants to know we she has to stay here with us. She said it would be safer for her to run." Edward said.
"That could work. Demetri doesn't have her scent yet. She could just run." Rosalie said.
"She's a newborn vampire. We shouldn't just set her lose." Carlisle replied.
"Then don't set her lose alone." Edward said.
"Who are we going to send with her, though?" Renesmee asked, speaking for the first time.
"I'll go." I suggested, raising my hand.
"No. You're almost as unstable as she is. There would be no good in that." Carlisle said, and I knew that he was right.
"Or she could just not run and we tell the Volturi that it's her power and that there's nothing we can do besides kill her or let her be free." Rosalie suggested.
"They're going to want her." Edward said. "I don't even think that there coming to kill her. I think that there coming just because they want her. Who wouldn't? She can turn into a werewolf and hear the thoughts of her other pack members, which I guess is Jacob's pack. She is so talented. The Volturi are going to be all over her."
There was silence as Edward's words sunk in.That made a lot of sense. Of course, it would make sense that they would want to dispose of her immediately too.
"Well then what do we do?" Jacob asked.
"We let her decide for herself." Esme said, stepping into the conversation. All of our eyes looked over to Sue, who was now a vampire and dressed. How did I not notice her leaving and putting on clothes?
"I don't know what I want." She said simply, looking down. I felt extremely sorry for her, wondering if there was anything we could do to actually help.
"What was it like with the Volturi?" She asked Harry and I. She must've already been filled in.
"I miss it. I only left to explore the rest of the world for awhile before going back. Of course, I don't plan on going back anymore, but still." Harry said.
"I would go back if I hadn't found the Cullens. I don't want to be a monster anymore. I want to be who I am trying to be. I want to be as human as I could possibly be. But I was perfectly satisfied with the Volturi." I said.
I knew that my words made some of the Cullens angry. They obviously don't want her to be going anywhere. Neither do I. But I wasn't going to lie to her.
"Carlisle..." Sue hissed between her teeth. Carlisle had his hands on her shoulders.
"Yes?" He asked.
"Thirsty." I could barely make out the words, she was clenching her jaw so hard.
"Yes, yes. Of course. We have plenty of time to talk about this if Alice's vision stays the same. Let's go." Carlisle replied. And with that, they were gone.
Sighing, I went upstairs and into one of the guest rooms that was now becoming my own room. I laid on the bed that was unnecessary and stared up at the ceiling. This was all so much to take in. In only the last few days, I had joined the Cullens, a coven that only drank animal blood, found myself, fell in love again with my daughter and my granddaughter, and Sue turned into a vampire. That was a lot.
"Dad?" Bella called out, knocking on the door.
"Come in." I barely whispered, but she heard me, so she stepped inside the room. A rare moment of sun burst in through the clouds, shining in through the large windows. The sunlight caught Bella's skin, and she immediately lit up, her skin sparkling like diamonds. I smiled.
"Beautiful." I said.
She smiled back. "Thanks."
Walking over to me, she sat down next to me and laid her head against my shoulder. I wrapped one arm around her shoulders, pulling her close to me.
"This is insane." I said, running my hand throughout her hair. Even when we were both humans, we had never had any moments like that. Not since she was little. I understand now why. She had been hanging out with the Cullens and getting herself wrapped up in this drama.
"This life isn't exactly normal." Bella replied.
I laughed. "No. No it's not."
We talked for awhile, telling me stories of Renesmee and Jacob. I listened intently, shocked at what I had missed in the last four years. Just after Harry changed me, I learned about what the Cullens really were. At that second, I knew that Bella had to be a vampire. It only made sense. Yet, I didn't come running full speed to the Cullen's house. I should have.
After awhile, Bella and I just feel silent. Downstairs, I heard Renesmee's soft breathing. If I were still a human, I could've fallen asleep to that sweet melody.
