(Y/n's Pov)
Today was tryouts for fencing class at my school, and I figured it would be beneficial to learn some fighting for being a superhero.
I had been reviewing what to do in fencing since the announcement came up.
Apparently, Adrien takes this class and Mari figured it would be a good way to get close to him by trying out.
So, me and Mari are trying out together.
"This gear is pretty cool. Don't ya think so Mari?"
"Yeah, if I could find a helmet that fits me! How'd you find one so easily?"
"I guess I have a good eye."
"Ugh, you're so lucky!"
*Laughs*
"I've gotta have these try-outs, Y/n! D'Argencourt is the most prestigious fencing academy in all of Paris! I only have this one shot to show them what I've got to get onto the team!"
"Don't you mean hang with Adrien~"
"H-Hey!"
"Oh please, you know I'm right, besides that's what you told me the moment I told you I wanted to try-out."
"Hmph!"
*Gasp* "Oh no! The return of the angry little beetle has come to consume me in hatred!"
*Laughs*
I looked about the table and found one that looked to be Mari's size.
"Here."
I put the helmet on Mari's head.
"Oh! You found one that fits me!"
"Heh, told you I have a good eye. Now come on, try-outs are starting!"
Me and Mari got everything we needed and met outside in the courtyard with everyone else.
Me and Mari stood next to one another.
"I am the fencing master, Mr. D'Argencourt. As I'm sure you're aware, we have only two open spots on the team this year. So, in order to select the best possible candidates, I will observe the beginners performing a number of attacks on the experienced students."
"Where's Adrien?"
"Get into positions."
With that, the beginners and experienced students got on long gray mats.
A student walked up to Mari.
"Seems like you're looking for someone?"
Oh gosh
"Yeah, I thought Adrien was here. You know, a boy this tall, blonde, nice, super handsome."
"Um, Mari."
The guy, who was Adrien, tipped his helmet up.
"Thanks for the compliments."
Mari looked at me, with a look that read, 'Did you know he was Adrien!'. All I did in response was give a look that said, 'I tried to tell you.'.
I paid attention to the experienced student infront of me.
"Get into position!"
I put on my helmet, got into starting position and held my sabre forward.
"Greet each other!"
I pointed my sabre up and downwards just like my opponent.
"En garde! Prets? Allez!"
The match began I didn't hold back, I attacked and dodged surprisingly well, even though this was my first time.
I think because sometimes I would use my baton whip like sword, I had very sensitive reflexes.
Before we continued with another match, my opponent stopped.
"You're quite good, are you sure this isn't your first time fencing?"
"I've never fenced before this, I guess I just have good instincts and reflexes."
"I'll say, I've only hit you once in the 7 matches we've done."
"Hehe, are you okay though? You look a bit out of breath."
"You're quite fast, a bit hard to keep up with. I just need to catch my breath."
"What is going on here?"
"Just catching my breath, she's quite good."
"Hmm, and what is you're name?"
"Y/n L/n, Mr. D'Argencourt."
"Alright then, continue."
"What was that about?"
"Dunno, shall we continue."
"Gladly."
After another round, someone spoke up.
"Hey, you! Are you Mr. D'Argencourt, the fencing master?"
Someone in red fencing gear was standing on the electronic fencing machine.
"I want to join your team."
"Only the best are admitted, you knave."
"And I was, everywhere I went."
Wow.
"Par le fer! This whippersnapper has nerve! Alright! I may consider your admission, shall you defeat one of my students!"
The mysterious person stepped forward.
"Which one of you is the best combatant?"
The experienced students all moved out of the way to show Adrien.
"Adrien, please give our visitor a lesson in chivalry."
"I shall, Master."
The machine was set up with a wire connected to each opponent.
Adrien and the other person tested out the machine by touching each other with their sabre's.
"Great! There goes any chance I had at making the team! This guy's obviously better than everyone."
My opponent leaned in to speak with Mari with me on her right.
"It's not over yet, he still has to beat Adrien."
"En garde! Prets? Allez!"
Adrien and his opponent charged at one another.
"Simultane. Pas de touche."
"I could of sworn Adrien touched him first."
"No, I could tell. It was a tie."
"You could tell Y/n?"
"Man, wish I had you're eagle eyes. But regardless, not sure. Anyway, you never question the referees decision."
"En garde! Prets? Allez!"
"Damn, they're both really good. They both hit at the same time."
"Uh, abstention."
"What's happening?"
"Mr. D'Argencourt isn't sure who won so he's chosen to abstain. This is a tight bout!"
"Neither of them won. They both hit at the same time. They are good."
"En garde!..."
"Wait! I request that we do it the old-fashioned way. We'll be much more at ease without the machine."
"Adrien?"
"Fine with me."
They took off the wires and prepared to attack.
"But, how will we know who touched the other one first?"
"By watching very closely."
"En garde! Prets? Allez!"
They both lunged and soon they were fencing off the mat.
"Is this what fencing's all about?"
"Par le fer! This is what fencing's all about!"
Everyone followed after them but I urged Mari to the other side.
They eventually started fencing in the library.
I kept a close eye, while also avoiding flying books and a metal mobile book shelf.
They fought for a bit longer, before Adrien's opponent, who I now have visually identified is female, spoke again.
"Let's finish this off!"
They finally finished and I can say that it was the girl that won but I was barely acknowledged.
"Who got the first hit? Who?"
"Uh, I..."
"Who touched first? Tell us now!"
"I don't know. I think, it was, Adrien?"
"Ha, ha! Wonderful! This victory is an honor to D'Argencourt Academy!"
God damn it, Mari...
The girl sighed, shook Adrien's hand and walked away.
"Are you sure, Marinette?"
"Uh, well, I'm not entirely sure."
"I mean, it looked like it was you, but it went so fast!"
"I think he touched me first."
"The referee has the last word."
"What am I!? Chopped liver to you people!? I was here to, you know!"
"Did you see who won then, Y/n?"
"Yeah, it was you're opponent. And you!"
I pointed at Mr. D'Argencourt.
"You could of asked me too! Mari wasn't the only one watching!"
I was so feed up, but he just walked away.
Adrien grabbed my hand and we headed downstairs.
"Whoa! Where are we going, Adrien?"
"We need to tell him!"
"Are you sure they're a gu...!"
Where's does this child get his strength from! I'm being pulled around like rag doll!
Adrien was still holding on to me as he grabbed the sabre the girl stabbed into the ground.
We caught up to her before she left.
"Hey, wait! Your sabre!"
She threw her gloves into the car and took of her helmet.
She was rather pretty, with a serious look on her face.
"You have to listen, my friend Marinette was wrong, I.."
"What's the point in listening, what's been said is done. There's no such thing as indecision in my family. Goodbye."
She got into her car and drove away.
