Y/N pov

Today is the day of the firm'a christmas party. All of the city officials were attending. So I had to attend it alongside my wife Laurel. As she greeted everyone, I decided to stay near the bar.

"Hey stranger." Ollie greeted me with a smile.

"Hey man." I replied as I shook his hand. "How've you been?"

"I've been great." He told me. He went on about his plans in the mayoral race before I caught site of Laurel approaching us.

"I need some air." She breathed as she held my hand. "Come with me."

"Always." I smiled at her as we excused ourselves and stood outside on the steps of the building.

"God I needed to breath." She sighed as she swung our hands between us both. "I hate these corporate partys." She told me making me chuckle. This was the type of lawyer she never wanted to be. She preferred when she helped the poor in the Glades before the earthquake.

"Well maybe we can think of doing our own firm like what they had in the Glades." I suggested as she smiled at me.

"You'd do that with me?" She asked me shocked as I nodded with a smile. She cupped my cheeks and kissed me passionately. I reached inside my pocket knowing that this is the perfect time to ask her The Question.

Just as I was about to speak, we heard the roar of a car speeding and shots fired. Both of us dove to the ground as fast as we could. I turned over on the steps and lay on my back once the car was gone.

"Y/N." Laurel called out. I turned to face her, she was bleeding from her arm. She had a sad look on her face. "No no no no. Baby please." I was confused as she ran over to me and her hands found my chest. I could barely feel a thing. I was numb.

"I'm gonna be fine." I smiled up at her as the sound of the music could be heard. I started to cough as I looked in her eyes. "You're hurt." I stated as she shook her head.

"HELP!" She yelled out. "SOMEBODY. HELP ME PLEASE!" She yelled as I cupped her cheek to get her attention. I knew the extent of my injuries. I knew I wasn't going to make it.

"I was going to as you a question tonight." I told her as she shook her head no with tears running down her face. I gave her the velvet box and rested it in her hand. "I was going to ask you to marry me."

"I would say yes. 100x over." She whispered shakily. I smiled tiredly at her. She continued to call for help. No one could hear as the music filled the air. Lonely This Chrismas by Mudd played in the night.

"I love you." I whispered to her as my breaths became shallow. She knew what was happening. She watched as my last breath slipped past my lips as my eyes lost all life behind them. She cried still holding the wound hoping to hold off the inevitable, but there was no escaping it. Her cries soon filled the night as she still held my dead body.
