Connor's perspective
The RK800 was standing to the side of Hank Anderson's desk, (Y/N)'s desk right next to his.
"I get the impression my presence causes you some inconvenience, Lieutenant. I'd like you to know I'm very sorry about that."
He didn't respond, he just sat with his arms crossed. At this moment Detective (L/N) was walking past, coffee in hand. She backed up to look at the old man.
"He's sulking at the moment" She told him, making sure they weren't in earshot of the Lieutenant "give him a minute or he'll never get anything done, at times like this he's a stubborn toddler."
Her shoes squeaked every few shuffles as she made her way to her desk.
"Now that we're partners, it would be great to get to know each other better." Connor made an attempt at talking to Hank, but he wasn't budging.
"Is there a desk anywhere I could use?"
"No-one's using that one." He pointed at the empty desk.
The android made his way around the unit, taking a seat in the office chair. He turned his head to see (Y/N) partially leaning against her desk, talking to Gavin with a smile on her face. Reed gave her a small wave as a goodbye before heading to the break room.
"I'm surprised to see you working well beside Detective Reed after the situation during the interrogation Miss (L/N)."
"He's just an ass after he's smoked, he reeked of tobacco back there & whenever he gets stressed or pissed, he smokes. Nasty habit, but overall when he's just himself he's a decent guy."
"Yeah cause he's hitting on you." Hank mumbled.
"Eat a dick Anderson." She stated, rolling her eyes. (Y/N) walked over to their desk & leaned against that so she could hear her partners better.
"You have a dog, right?" Connor asked the Lieutenant.
"How do you know that?"
"The dog hairs on your chair.
I like dogs, what's your dog's name?"
"What's it to you?" He snarled.
(Y/N) sighed, taking in another sip of coffee.
"Sumo." He answered.
"I call him Sumo."
The RK800 watched (Y/N) smile at this.
"You also own a dog, am I correct?"
"Yep, German Shepherd. Big softie. He'd probably like you."
"I noticed in the photo on your desk he's wearing a collar with a tag. It has the name Blue on it, why did you choose such a unique name?"
"He was bred from a line of K-9 units, I found him at a local pound & adopted him. They must've not wanted a puppy distracting the dogs from their job. Whenever he saw a police car or heard a siren, he'd get really bouncy & excited as a pup - I still hadn't given him a name, so I usually called him grasshopper or pups' as a nickname - so I felt as though Blue was a decent name since the police siren lights are red & blue. Means he also shares a name with an old dog in a movie back home. I take him to work sometimes, maybe you could meet him."
"I'd enjoy that."
He turned his attention back to the Lieutenant.
"Do you listen to Knights Of The Black Death? I really like that music. It's, full of energy."
"You listen to Heavy Metal?" Hank asked in a questioning tone.
"Well, I don't really listen to music, as such, but I'd like to."
Yet another silence.
He decided to address the anti-android slogans on Hank's monitor, but as he looked at them, he noticed (Y/N) shaking her head at him, making an x with her fingers & mimicking a slicing motion across her neck, as if telling him not to say anything.
He did anyway.
"A lot of people don't appreciate having androids around," At this phrase the woman facepalmed with her free hand. "I was wondering... Is there any reason in particular you despise me?"
Anderson nodded. "Yeah...
There is one."
Connor tried to press on by retaining eye contact but the officer just went back to work.
"If you have any files on deviants, I'd like to take a look at them."
"The terminal should have some cases on it Connor, that may be a good place to start." The 26-year-old answered.
As he went through the cases, he could sense the awkwardness in the room between the three of them, the tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
"243 files, first dates back nine months. It all started in Detroit, & quickly spread across the country."
"No surprise, it was a place of discrimination long before androids arrived." (Y/N) stated casually.
"An AX400 is reported to have murdered a man last night. That could be a good starting point for our investigation." Connor was focusing mainly on the Lieutenant whose back was to the android.
(Y/N) watched the scene unfold, Connor got out of his chair & went to stand over Hank, trying to get a response. She walked in the direction of the break room, not wanted to get involved.
"You shouldn't let your personal situation hamper the investigation, Lieutenant."
"You don't know what the hell you're talking about. So why don't you just run your program & shut the fuck up?" Hank answered in a hostile tone.
The RK800's voice went down to a more sympathetic yet determined level. "I've been assigned this mission, Lieutenant. I didn't come here to wait until you feel like working."
Lieutenant Anderson stood up, bunching Connor's jacket in his fists as he threw him into the nearest surface.
"Listen asshole. If it was up to me, I'd throw the lot of you in a dumpster & set a match to it. So stop pissing me off! Or things are gonna get nasty." He growled.
"Lieutenant..."
Hank dropped Connor at the sound of Chris's voice. Connor looked over the angry officer's shoulder to see (Y/N) standing next to Chris, one hand on her hip & the other on her forehead, her head down in both embarrassment & disappointment at her partner's behaviour.
"Uh, sorry to disturb you. I have some information on the AX400 that killed the guy last night. It's been sighted in the Ravendale district."
"I'm on it."
The android watched the Lieutenant walk away. Taking a moment to adjust his tie he viewed his surroundings only to see (Y/N) collecting her jacket from her chair.
"Will you be joining us, Detective?"
"Sure will, though Fowler says I should be waiting till my shoulder's decent just in case there's a hit & run. Turns out things get infected if they've been cut with old broken glass, who knew?" He heard the sarcasm in her voice.
"Come on, let's catch up with Anderson before he finds something else to get pissed off about."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Alright, that's all for now. Free to go." Hank dismissed the man he was talking to.
"We've got officers sweeping the neighbourhood, in case anybody saw anything."
"Okay. Well, let me know if they turn anything up."
Ben looked over at Connor & (Y/N), who were discussing the Red Ice Epidemic.
"What are you gonna do with that?"
"I've no idea."
Their conversation was stopped when Hank approached the two of them.
"It took the first bus that came along & stayed at the end of the line. Its decision wasn't planned, it was driven by fear."
"Androids don't feel fear."
"Deviants do. They get overwhelmed by their emotions & make irrational decisions."
"Ah well, that still doesn't tell us where it went."
"If it wasn't thinking straight like Connor said, it could still be nearby." (Y/N) added.
"Maybe..."
They scoped the area, looking for any trace of the deviant. She saw Connor looking at the old abandoned house.
"Anybody home?" He called towards it, before entering the fenced off area.
"There's blue blood on the fence, I know another android was here." Both (Y/N) & Hank were watching & waiting from the other side. They were just standing, looking around. It was quiet.
Perhaps too quiet.
"We sure he's okay?" She asked her partner.
"It's an android, it can handle whatever's happening."
"I'm going to check on him."
"Not by yourself you're not."
When they finally made their way to the house, Connor was on the ground.
"Connor, what happened?" She asked, hastily.
"It's here! Call it in!" He hurried in the direction the deviant must've gone, (Y/N) following close behind.
"Which way did it go?"
"That way – they're headed for the train station!" The officer told them as they made their pursue. They sprinted down the rained down pathways, dodging people with umbrellas. (Y/N) didn't know where she was going, but she knew Connor must've. She lost footing once & stumbled, Connor steadying her before they continued their sprint. They reached a mid-section that lead to an alleyway & the android froze suddenly, before quickly gaining focus to snap out of his daze & dashing down the alley after spotting the deviant & a little girl jumping a fence. (Y/N) wondered what an android was doing with a child. (Y/N) ran at the wire, hitting the fence & looked at the deviant, its eyes staring back. She looked....worried. Concerned, possibly for the child. Did they just want to run away together? To be free?
Connor quickly caught up, another police officer on his tail.
"Don't shoot! We need it alive!" He yelled at the cop, the deviant & little girl sliding down the slope that lead to the highway.
Hank had finally caught up to them "Oh fuck! That's insane!" They watched the woman & child cross the road, speeding cars blocking their path at times. The little girl tripped over, but the android was quick to get her back on her feet to safety, pushing her towards the halfway point. Connor grabbed onto the fence, ready to jump over it.
"Hey! Where you goin'?"
"I can't let them get away."
"Connor, they'll never make it to the other side!" (Y/N) pressed.
"I can't take that chance." He tried again.
"Hey! You will get yourself killed!" Hank stopped him. "Do not go after 'em Connor, that's an order!"
He looked at Anderson, then at the worried female, before tugging his hand away from the fence. (Y/N) leaned against the chain link barrier, sighing. When the two outlaws made it to the other side, the little girl pulled the woman into a hug, which she gladly accepted.
They both stood up, the white-haired android looking directly at (Y/N), almost as if it wanted to say something.
As if she was giving a sign, a 'thank you', an apology even.
"Maybe it's better this way." (Y/N) said, before taking her leave.
What happened back there?
Why did they run away with each other?
Were they close? Did they consider each other family?
Did the little girl not see the AX400 as just another robot,
But as her mother?
