Reader's perspective
(Y/N): ↓
(Y/N)'s gasp of shock echoed through the room as the Chloe's head fell, motionless. Pale blue thirium spilt onto the clean floor, some of it landing on her.
He'd shot her.
He'd actually done it.
Tears welled in (Y/N)'s eyes, before she stared at Connor – the android she believed in so, so much – with a glare & stalked off swiftly, throwing the door open.
"Fuck! Kid, wait!" Hank yelled, but she was already slamming the door behind her.
"Test negative. You chose your investigation over the life of another android. You feel no empathy." Elijah took the gun off of Connor.
Hank looked at Connor, then started going to check on the woman he considered his child.
"Kid?" He yelled into the waiting room which was empty.
"(Y/N)..." He looked out the front door, seeing the woman having an emotion breakdown over a piece of plastic.
"I trusted him...I believed that he was changing..." She pulled at her hair, Hank taking hold of her shoulders.
"Pull yourself together kid, we should've known." There was slight dismay in his tone.
"To think, I felt something for that plastic asshole." She shook her head.
The front door opened, & Connor walked out as if nothing had happened. Hank went back up the steps that led inside, letting them sort out their issues.
"You shot that innocent woman for fuck's sake." She snarled at him.
"It wasn't a woman, (Y/N). It was a machine that looked like a woman." He pressed.
"It doesn't change the fact that you looked her dead in the eye & shot lead through her godamn forehead!" She stormed up to him & he pushed her backwards, perhaps in too harsh of a manner.
"I did what I had to advance the investigation & I'd do it again if I had to!"
"FUCK YOU! YOU BLEW HER BRAINS OUT & YOU FEEL NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!" She screamed at him.
"I opened up to you & showed you my sensitive side just like you did & what do you do in return?! You leave! Just like everyone else in my life! How fucking stupid was I? I thought you were something better, I thought you were alive! But you know what I realised?!" He saw how swollen her eyes were. (Y/N) felt as though she was lashing out too much, but she'd bottled all this up & now that it was trickling out of the broken bottle it flowed out wave after wave.
"You're a fucking machine! That's what you are! I...." She turned her head, feeling stupid for what she still felt for Connor.
"You need to calm down Detective (L/N), it was simply a machine - it was just one android."
"You're just one android! One android I cared about!" She roared at him, emphasising on the past tense of 'cared', even though her heart strained after saying it. Even Connor looked taken aback by what she'd yelled in her rage.
"(Y/N), just.. be rational about this-"
"I'm done."
She stalked over to her car, opening the door. She looked back at him one last time with a mixed expression, running a hand over her face & through her hair, shaking her head as she felt a migraine crawling its way into her skull.
"No, I'm-I'm done." She slammed the door, turned on the car with shaking hands & took off, trying to focus on the road. She only just realised how much of a bitch she sounded like back there...
Hank finally came back to his car.
"Lieutenant, I-"
"You know, she really cared about you, Connor. Maybe even loved you.
You're the one who needs to decide the next move."
Hank stepped into his own car, driving off without another word, leaving the android alone in the snow.
Connor had screwed up,
big time.

(Y/N) had made her way to Jericho, taking the pack of items from the backseat of her car & trying her best to silence her sobbing as she walked through the crowd of deviants that were camping there. She weaved in & out of all the androids, trying to find those she considered her friends.
"(Y/N)? What's wrong? What are you doing here?" North asked, concern lacing her voice.
"Where's Markus?" She asked with a shaky tone.
"Right here, what's going on?"
Being so overwhelmed by emotions, she started shaking. She remembered the dead face of that Chloe & that only made her shake more. She'd watched someone get shot right in front of her. Slaughtered, even.
"He...Markus, he..."
Markus looked down at the woman, holding her shoulders.
"He killed her. He shot one of his- his own kind in broad daylight for Christ's sake & waltzed out as if nothing happened. He was completely emotionless, I thought I knew him better." She leaned into his shoulder, tears threatening to roll down her face.
"I didn't know where else to go."
Markus pulled her into a hug.
"You're welcome at Jericho, (Y/N)."
She just sat there for a second, enveloped in warmth – but the only thing that reminded her of was Connor.
Had she'd gone too far? Like he'd said, it was just one android. But (Y/N) saw it as a living being, a woman with possible hopes & accomplishments.
Could she truly forgive him? All of their partnership, trust & affections towards one another were broken at the sound of a gunshot – quite literally. (Y/N) thought he was making progress, that maybe he felt the same feeling she did. that he could feel something...anything...
But she must've been wrong.
Several hours later, (Y/N) had curled herself up next to one of the blazing fires in Jericho.
In the bag she'd had sitting on that backseat for the past week, she had a change of clothes, her phone, a water bottle & a few hair ties, nothing truly special, but possibly useful.
"How are you feeling?" Markus sat down next to here, staring into the fire pit.
"Like I overreacted? Maybe I was too harsh? I don't know... a little shocked, I guess.... you know, after seeing someone completely innocent get shot by someone you-"
Trust?
Was trust the word she was looking for? Was Connor only someone to trust? No, it was so much more than trust. She trusted Hank & Chris, but never felt like this. This happiness, bliss. Any other word possible that could describe utter joy.
Love
Someone you love
That was it, that was the warm feeling she got around Connor, the feeling of safety & security. The feeling of protection that radiated off the RK800 when he reached for her hand back at Elijah's place. The comfort she felt whenever they hugged. The yearn for his smile, his touch, his eyes.
Hank was right, she really did fall for the plastic asshole.
"Markus?"
He hummed in response.
"...Do you..." She fumbled with her words.
"Yes?"
"Do you know what...love feels like?"
He looked back at the fire, before (Y/N) saw his gaze flick to North.
(Love,IsABurningThing)
"Yes...Yes I do..."
"How would you...describe it?"
Markus pondered for a second.
(Y/N) wouldn't have put it into those words, but she did feel something along the lines of that whenever she was with Connor.
"It's Connor, isn't it?"
"How-"
"That android partner of yours, right?"
"Yes but-"
Markus gave her a pat on the shoulder, standing up.
"Things will turn around (Y/N), believe me."
"Markus, before you leave..."
He turned back to face her.
"How did you know it was Connor? I never mentioned him to you..."
He gave her a knowing smile.
"I have my ways."
"He saw you three on the news." North commented whilst passing by.
"I was trying to seem ominous & wise, North." Markus sighed, causing (Y/N) to chuckle.
Maybe things were getting better.

Only a few hours afterward, Connor was watching the news as a group of deviants lead a march, chanting.
'On breaking news, in the downtown district, an extreme number of reported deviants are leading a 'freedom march' to spread their message. They appear to be chanting, spreading word that machines may possibly have free will,
'WE ARE PEOPLE! WE ARE PEOPLE!' The crowd yelled.
Could this be the brink of downfall for Humanity?
'WE ARE ALIVE! WE ARE ALIVE!' They repeated.
Why haven't our government officials taken action yet?
Connor noticed a woman in the front of the march, standing next to the leader. Her hair was pulled back & a beanie over her (H/C) locks as a baggy coat sat on her shoulders, partially covering her red top. She was yelling along with all of them, radiating pride & justice as her black boots - paired with lightly flushed out denim jeans - hit the road. that's when Connor saw...
It was (Y/N).
The crowd came to a halt.
'We came here to demonstrate peacefully' Markus stated '& tell humans that we are living beings. All we want is to live free.'
'This is an illegal gathering. Disperse immediately or we will open fire.'
He watched (Y/N) lean down & say something to Markus, the rest of them also conversing & possibly arguing over their next move. He tilted his head in concern. Soon the androids started readying to run. A sudden sprint. They all charged forward.
That's when everything fell into massacre. As deviants were killed off one by one, Connor stopped watching.
He couldn't bear the thought of (Y/N) being slaughtered, as he heard the cries of the other marchers mix with gunshots.
'This is Cassidy Harrington, signing off.'
