Word spread around the realm of the death of the Hand's youngest son, silent confusion and anger filled every Lord at the lack of punishment those responsible had. Most of all everyone was surprised at Otto's continued position as Hand of the King, none more so than the Hand's wife. Otto had to take his wife aside and promise vengeance would be theirs, they only need to wait.

Soon after Lady Laena's funeral rumors spread quickly that Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon had had Ser Laenor killed, the young father falling into a raging fire in the hall of Hightide. When the guards had finally arrived and pulled his body from the flames, Ser Laenor's head had been burnt beyond recognition. Princess Rhaenyra and her family fled to Dragonstone with her uncle and his children.

Public opinion changed towards the heir to the Iron throne, the realm called her cruel and a cunt. How could a mother raise her children to maim and murder their own kin. King Kinslayer was whispered behind King Viserys' back.

Feeling the heat and fearing a realm wide rebellion, King viserys named Aegon is heir and disinherited Prince Daemon and Princess Rhaenyra's children. The King hoped this would be enough to appease his subjects.

More bad news followed Maren. As she mourned her son a raven arrived saying her brother had collapsed clutching his chest. Marion lived for three more days before he passed in his sleep. With the death of her brother and no more living male relatives Highgarden passed to Maren.

With his blood now heir to the Iron Throne, Otto felt he could relax. The former Hand followed his wife and children to Highgarden. No longer was he Ser Otto, he was now Lord Otto, grandsire to the next King.

Otto and Maren lived happily in Highgarden, the older man's ambition finally fulfilled. Maren and Otto lived happily in Highgarden, ruling over the Reach. Upon their deaths Highgarden passed to their eldest daughter, Melora.
