The Hawthorne's. The small family of four.
On the outside, they looked like the perfect modern family. The powerful lawyer of a father. The nurse of a mother. The older son along with his younger sister.
They were perfect.
But behind closed doors was a completely different story.
The father is an abusive narcissist.
The mother is a manipulative liar.
The son died before his 17th birthday.
And the daughter left to clean it all up.
Elanora Hawthorne was the youngest of them all.
The one who did her hardest to keep it all a secret was what went on behind the red front door of Hawthorne's two-story house across the street from the Forbes.
She became an expert on how to use makeup to cover up the bruises, what tops would make sure her neck and ribs were covered, and even what lies to tell the sheriff, teachers, and parents.
Elanora's worst fear was becoming her parents.
Well, that and ending up dead. Sort of.
Death was peaceful. She's been on the brink of it so many times she wondered what it didn't just snatch her. Why she was still alive? What purpose did her life have?
Anyone who saw the girl would think the exact opposite though.
They would think she was your typical "it" girl of her high school.
The friends.
The clothes.
The boyfriend.
But it was all her lie.
That's all her life ever truly was, and no one ever truly noticed. They never took the time to realize.
There were questions of course, but Elanora knew exactly how to cover them up.
Heck, she even lied to vampires. Keeping your heart rate leveled was one of her father's "lessons" and Elanora knew the consequences if she didn't pass them.
But when an original hybrid comes to town and slowly begins to unravel all the lies Elanora has told her life completely changes.
But lies are what make up the house of Hawthorne. Lies live inside the walls of that house.
And everything Elanora Hawthorne thought she knew was just a lie.
