"The 8 hour lie."

RILU fights for the 5-Hours-Day !

A personal observation from an industrial worker on the day to day struggle

One of the greatest struggles of the working class in the history of the world is the struggle for the reduction of working hours, in the Soviet Union and the PSR of Albania working hours were gradually reduced in accordance to the development of socialist society and industry. this is in accordance with the laws of socialist development and importantly these laws were actually put into practice and everything was done for and by the the working class and its party. In much of the capitalist world working hours too have supposedly been reduced, most employers only allow for an 8 hour day this is true. However, the reduction of working hours means nothing when large parts of the working masses must work additional jobs just to achieve a bearable standard of living under the wage slavist regime of the bourgeoisie which attempts at every oppuntinity to lower the standard of living and quality of work of the proletarian masses down to the lowest of subsistence levels. I will use here anecdotes from my personal life as a warehouse worker as an example of this fact. At the start of the day before even the crack of dawn I work as a package handler for a postal service from 4am to 9am. amongst the workers, almost to a man including myself, this is a second job. it is a hard and taxing job despite short shifts early hours and little sleep leave little time for personal life when paired with the second jobs almost all of us are required to take up inorder to make ends meet, in my case I then work an additional 8 hours in another wearhouse and with these two jobs combined I can not afford to live a life even approaching contentment. Today by and large for the unskilled industrial workers such as myself the old phrase "8 hours work 8 hours rest 8 hours leiser" is nothing more than a pleasant dream. The realities of capitalism mean that in our day to day lives either rest or leiser must be sacrificed on a daily basis. This is why we workers skilled or unskilled, industrial or service must band together behind the Red International of Labor Unions and under the leadership of the Communist International (Stalinist-Hoxhaists) this is why me must fight for a socialist reality, our best weapons, our only weapons in this struggle is the guidance of the party of the world proletariat and the hands of the working class of the world.
