Ella fiddled with her necklaces in the mirror, looking over her outfit. She'd put on blue jeans and a black top that tied at the front. It wasn't a whole lot more exciting than what she usually wore to school, but it wasn't a proper party so she thought she could get away with something casual.

When she went downstairs the first few people had arrived and Steve was handing out drinks. She quickly made her way over to Nat and Wanda who poured them a shot each. Ella didn't check what it was before she downed it, she winced as she swallowed.

"You could've told me it was tequila, I would've got us some lime" Ella groaned, looking around for another drink to wash the taste away.

She dug a bottle of her mom's wine out of the fridge and settled on that, even though it was only marginally better. She poured the three of them glasses and made sure to put the bottle back in the fridge. If it was a toss-up between warm white wine and tequila she'd probably end up picking the latter and it definitely wasn't that kind of night.

A few more people had arrived while the three of them were tucked away in the kitchen, they eventually joined Steve in the living room, there was a game on TV that seemed to have everyone's attention. When Ella walked in she scanned the room, her eyes landed on the girl sitting next to Pietro, Ella realized she must be his plus one. The girl, Jess, was a good friend of Christian's. Ella mentally groaned, she was hoping to have an evening without any prying eyes, but apparently, she wasn't that lucky.

Ella sat down with Wanda and Nat on one of the couches. The three of them chatted, passing the time as Ella waited for the one person she really wanted to see. Wanda was equally as anxious as Ella, she'd invited Vision and he'd texted to say he was running late. Nat laughed at the pair of them as they sat bouncing their knees in unison.

When she'd finished off her wine she collected the others' glasses and wandered into the kitchen for refills. While she was on her way the doorbell rang, her heart jumped in her chest, hoping it was Bucky. But she opened the door to see Vision. She gave him a polite smile and a quick hug, trying to disguise her disappointment. She pointed him in the direction of the living room and turned around to spot Sam and Bucky making their way up the driveway.

She couldn't contain her smile when she spotted them. She gave them both a quick hug, but as she pulled away from Bucky he kept hold of her hand. Not for the first time, his touch made it feel as though there was electricity coursing through her.

Sam disappeared into the living room and Bucky followed Ella into the kitchen, where he set his beers down on the island and pulled out a bottle. Ella refilled the three wine glasses she'd brought in with her, but before she could take them in to her friends, Bucky came and stood behind her, placing his hand on the small of her back. The touch made her flinch momentarily, his hand was cold against her skin.

She turned to face him, leaning back against the kitchen counter. He stayed standing close to her.

"I broke up with Christian" she whispered.

Bucky took a sip of his beer.

"I guessed. I'm sorry, it was the right thing to do though, wasn't it?" He said, gently.

"Yeah, but it still felt like shit," she sighed.

"I can imagine. Although I've never had to do that myself"

"Seriously? You've never broken up with someone?" She frowned, realizing they'd never discussed his love life. How have we managed to avoid that topic?

"Nope, I mean never had anyone to break up with" he answered. "I guess you could describe me as a serial casual dater, so no break-ups required."

"Really? How come you haven't casually dated anyone at school then?" Ella asked, despite the fact she was sure she already knew the answer. She just wanted confirmation.

It took him a few seconds to reply. Ever since he'd first been to Ella's house they'd spoken about anything and everything and rarely had his confidence slipped. But now she was here, next to him, so close he thought that if they were quiet enough she'd be able to hear his heart pounding in his chest. Suddenly, the one reason stopping him from being with her was gone and he was undeniably and intensely nervous for the first time since their first conversation at school.

Ella bit her lip as she waited for his reply, her own nervousness growing by the second.

"Because of you," he eventually whispered, so quiet she barely heard him.

His eyes glanced up, trying to read her reaction, he also needed to know for sure how she felt, this was his opportunity to find out just what she meant when she admitted to liking him. When he looked at her, there was a smile spread across her face, she looked away from him, suddenly feeling shy.

Bucky took her wine glass from her hand and placed it down on the counter behind her alongside his beer bottle.

With their hands now free, Bucky's found their way up to Ella's cheeks, cupping them, and she placed her palms flat against his chest.

He leaned in, his lips brushing Ella's. The kiss was soft, gentle, nervous. She reached her hands up, wrapping her arms around his neck, letting him know she wanted more.

The murmur of noise from the living room faded away as if it was just them alone in the house.

Ella didn't care that she probably tasted of some awful combination of tequila and wine. She didn't care that she had unceremoniously dumped Christian just days earlier. She didn't care that someone could walk in at any second because Bucky's lips had found hers again. This time he was more sure of his actions, after weeks of waiting he didn't have it in him to hold back for any longer. He couldn't be gentle, he wanted her, there and then in the kitchen. Bucky's lips parted hers as a low moan came from the back of his throat, his hands found their way into her hair, pulling her impossibly close.

His hands start to wander down Ella's back, pausing at her hips and carrying on to her thighs. He bent down, wrapping his arms under her legs, and lifted her onto the kitchen counter, not letting his lips leave hers. His wandering hands found their way to the small of her back again, this time she didn't flinch, she welcomed the feeling of his skin on hers.

Neither of them noticed that Nat had walked into the kitchen until she cleared her throat. The two of them pulled away, breathless, when they saw it was just Nat they were relieved. Bucky leant forward, rested his forehead on Ella's shoulder and let out a breathy laugh.

Nat collected the two wine glasses for herself and Wanda and backed out of the room with a smirk.

"Do you want to go upstairs?" Ella asked in a whisper.

Bucky gave a contented hmm in response and gave her hand as she jumped off the countertop.

They were walking upstairs hand in hand when the bathroom door opened and Christian's friend Jess walked out. Her face was a picture of shock. She stood there, eyes wide as they made it onto the landing. They squeezed past her and towards Ella's bedroom. As Ella turned to close the door behind her, Jess was still lingering at the top of the stairs, staring her down. Ella didn't let it ruin the moment. It was a future problem, one she could deal with on Monday.

She shut the door softly and leant her back against it. Bucky had never been in her room before so he was looking around, taking it all in.

On the far wall were shelves, haphazardly stacked with books, photos and swim trophies. Her jewelry all hung on a gold stand on her dressing table and she had Laura's old record player on top of her chest of drawers. Other than that, and a few mismatched throw pillows on the bed, her room was pretty sparsely decorated. She'd had a big tidy over summer in the hopes of redecorating, but she'd only got as far as painting the walls white before she gave up. She had a few framed art prints in her closet waiting to be hung, but she'd never got round to it.

When Bucky was done looking he stepped towards Ella, he leant down, pressing his lips to hers. This time lacked the lust their kiss in the kitchen had been filled with. It was soft, it made Ella's heart skip a beat. His lips wandered as he picked her up, they dotted kisses onto her nose and cheeks as he carried her over to the bed in his firm grip. He gently dropped her down and kneeled over her.

"This is the best sight I've ever seen," he said with a smile dancing on his lips.

Ella hid her own shy smile by pulling his lips back towards hers. She let her fingers brush over the short hairs on the nape of his neck before they tangled in his curls. She couldn't get enough of his lips, she was sure they could keep this up all night and she'd still be left wanting more. But as they kissed she wondered if Bucky was expecting anything else from her, she had invited him up to her bedroom after all.

She panicked a little, she was a way off wanting to go any further. But Bucky's kissing slowed, and he gave her a final peck on the nose before dropping down onto the bed. He laid down on his side so he could face her. Ella shuffled up so her head was on her pillow and gazed over at him. Bucky had a content smile on his face, and she knew he wasn't looking to go any further either.

"This doesn't feel real," she breathed.

Bucky reached over and gave her arm a gentle pinch.

"Well you're not dreaming," he grinned.

Ella's heart fluttered, she still couldn't believe just how adorable he was. It made her wonder what he saw in her.

"What was your first impression of me?" Ella asked.

"Am I allowed to be completely honest?" Bucky asked in response.

Ella raised her eyebrow, "of course, I can take whatever dreadful thing you have to say." She tried to hide her worry with a smile, what was he going to say that was bad he had to ask to say it?

"Well, something I didn't tell you before was that I actually saw you before the first day of school."

Ella looked at him in surprise, she was sure she would've noticed him if they'd crossed paths before then.

"So on the day I moved here I walked to the store to get stuff for dinner, and I walked past the park. You were there playing football with Steve and your parents"

"Oh yeah. It was like a month before school started" she nodded, remembering that afternoon. She cringed internally as she thought back, it was hot, one of the hottest days of the year, and she was pretty sure her playing football in that heat could not have been an attractive sight.

"Well, I know I said I was glad my parents got a divorce, but I hated that we moved. I didn't want to leave, but I didn't want to live with my dad either. And I was just really fucking miserable honestly, especially that first day. And then I'm walking to the store and I spot you. And you're literally the most beautiful person I've ever seen. You looked so happy and I could hear you laughing from the other side of the park. And I don't know, it just made me feel better. Like maybe moving wasn't as bad as I was making it out to be in my head. It was weird and that probably sounds really strange but yeah, you just made me hopeful, I guess."

Ella couldn't have described the mix of emotions his words conjured up inside of her how no matter how hard she tried. She was sure no words could accurately sum up every emotion inside her at that moment.

"Bucky..." she whispered.

He was embarrassed. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything - "

"No," she interrupted. "That is probably the most beautiful thing anyone has ever said to me."

Bucky leant over and gave her a gentle kiss.

"I bet you couldn't believe your luck when you spotted me in class," she teased.

He laughed, "yeah that was probably the greatest day of my life until today."

Ella's heart melted.

They both laid there for hours, Bucky's arm draped over Ella's waist and his thumb tracing circles on her back. They talked about whatever popped into their heads. Do you believe in aliens? They were both on the same page for that one, it was a definite yes. What's the last movie you cried at? Bucky's was Marley & Me and he claimed he'd only ever cried at the one movie. Ella's was the Time Traveller's Wife. She was adamant that it would make Bucky cry because even Steve had shed a few tears. What's top of your bucket list? Ella looked at Bucky like he was insane when he said his biggest wish was skydiving.

Sometime later Ella let out a huge yawn, she rolled over to check the time on her alarm clock.

"Oh my god, it's 3 am," she exclaimed in a whisper. They'd been talking for five hours, no wonder she was shattered.

Bucky started to get up but Ella reached out and stopped him.

"You can stay," she smiled. "There are probably people in the guest room so it's here or a couch"

"You don't mind?" He checked.

Ella shook her head, "definitely not."

They both stood up and got ready for bed, Ella replaced her outfit with matching satin pyjamas and Bucky took off his jeans and t-shirt, leaving him in just boxers. Once they were under the covers, Bucky wrapped his arm back over Ella's waist and they went to sleep.
