The phone rang late that night. It was Bunny. I hadn’t expected it, especially after I deactivated my finsta.
"Why did you deactivate it?" she asked, her voice soft but filled with concern.
I took a deep breath, my heart pounding. I didn’t know how to explain. But I couldn’t keep hiding.
Tears filled my eyes as I broke down. "I just… I couldn’t keep dealing with it. M found it, people from school found it. I couldn’t take it anymore."
There was silence on the other end, then Bunny spoke again, gently. "I understand. But you didn’t have to do it alone. You could’ve told me."
I wiped my tears, trying to calm myself. Then, something inside me broke. I couldn’t hold it back any longer. "Bunny… I… I love you. I’ve loved you for so long, and it’s just… it’s more than friendship. I can’t keep pretending it’s not."
She didn’t respond right away. I waited, my heart in my throat.
"I noticed," she said softly. "From the reels you liked. You always liked the ones that had… us, you know? That kind of thing."
I closed my eyes. "I didn’t want to make it obvious, but I couldn’t help it. Every time I saw something about us, I thought of you. I couldn’t stop thinking about you."
Bunny was quiet for a while. Then she spoke again, and I could hear the confusion in her voice. "You’ve made me believe I’m completely straight. I never thought I was anything else until now. I just thought you were trying to know if I wasn’t convincing myself."
My heart sank. "I wasn’t trying to make you feel anything you didn’t want. I just… I couldn’t hide it anymore. I love you, Bunny. And if you don’t feel the same, that’s okay. But I needed to tell you."
She was silent for a long time, and I could feel the weight of her words hanging in the air. Neither of us said yes or no, but the truth was out there. The silence between us felt heavy, but I knew, deep down, this was just the beginning.
