People make mistakes. Right? So Marissa was wrong and Brian was innocent? I didn't think Brian did it. I knew he didn't do it because frankly he was too immature and annoying. He was like a child for crying out loud!
I sat down on a nearby bench and fiddled with my hair. There was no way he could've done it. No. I know I seemed like I was in denial, but when you've actually been taken care of that oaf, it feels as if you can trust him. I started hyperventilating.
"Hey." I heard Brian's voice.
"Oh hey!" I stood up from shock. Brian walked closer to me.
"So why'd you call me out here? Y'know I can't come out to satisfy your every whim." He smirked.
I smacked him on the cheek playfully.
"Ow!" He cried and massaged his cheek. What a wimp. I sat back down on the bench and he joined me.
"You're not even gonna kiss my booboo?" He cried with puppy eyes that I couldn't resist. I rolled my eyes at his baby face and chuckled quietly. He turned out his cheek for me and waited for my kiss.
"I didn't know you were a child."
Still, I leaned in to kiss his cheek, but he turned his head so our lips met. Immediately, he deepened the kiss and I draped my arms around his shoulders. His hands went to my waist and we just sat on the bench making out, not caring about anyone who saw us. He tried to match my aggression, but I bit down on his lip lightly. He immediately flinched and pulled away from me.
"That hurt!" He pouted and jut his bottom lip out. I laughed at his silliness.
I rolled my eyes once we pulled away. What a Brian thing to do.
"What did you want to tell me?" He grinned like a mad man and draped his arm around my shoulder. I shrugged it off uncomfortably and he frowned.
"Is something wrong?" he asked, worried. His eyes were filled with concern and it was honestly touching that he cared so much for me, but I had to focus.
"Where were you yesterday before our date?" I looked at the trees surrounding us and focused on the people swarming everywhere. I couldn't even face him when he admitted the truth. I was too scared.
"I was out doing something," he replied nonchalantly, tossing his bangs. I noticed he was trying to avoid eye contact with me.
"Yes, but where? Why were you panting so hard? I know you have a lot of stamina."
"It was a very personal task, and I'd prefer not to talk about it."
"What do you mean 'personal'?" I mimicked his words. My insistence on getting an answer seemed to annoy Brian.
"Why, you don't trust me?" His eyes narrowed towards me. I glared right back.
"No, I don't. Where were you?" I repeated.
"I told you that it's a personal matter and that-"
"Cut the crap Brian. Just tell me." I bit my tongue so I wouldn't start cursing at him. But he was making it so damn hard.
He sighed heavily and rubbed his temples.
"I just want you to know that I care about your safety-"
"What the hell were you doing yesterday?" I nearly yelled.
"I was in Manhattan doi-," Before he could finish, I slapped him in the face again and fled. Tears fell from my cheeks and I wove through the crowds of people. I needed to escape from Brian.
"Serena!" he shouted. He immediately jumped up to chase me.
"Fuck you!" I shouted back.
Naturally, I was faster than him. He was losing speed, and I saw him bend over, panting. I kept on running, ignoring my lungs. I should've known the agency was right (no matter how pompous their elites were), and now he knew that I knew. I was in danger. I ran until day turned to night. When I felt like my legs wouldn't move, I observed everything around me. I had run to almost the edge of the city, so I called the agency for a ride.
"Tell someone to pick me up, please. I have business to take care of concerning Brian." I stormed off to another bench and waited for any car. I saw a Honda Civic park in front of me. It had the agency's sticker on the bumper, so I knew it was my ride. I stood up to step into the car until someone jumped me from behind.
He had his arm draped around my neck, effectively suffocating me. I quickly kicked my heel into his most sensitive part. His grip on my neck loosened so I took his arm and somehow managed to flip him over my body. I didn't know where this strength came from; maybe it was because I was pissed. Genuinely truly pissed. I straddled him and punched his face until my knuckles were bloody. All I could hear were screams of agony, though I didn't care enough to stop.
"This...is..for...your..stupid...gang..." As I said the last word, I grabbed his collar, and punched him hard in the face. He was knocked out with a broken nose and bloody face. I quickly rummaged through his pockets and grabbed a gun. 9 millimeter. Not bad.
The driver finally opened the car door and got out. He was very thin and scrawny. Where was his driving uniform?
"Nice saving me." I sneered.
"Save you? I'm here to do the opposite." He had a smug look. He lunged foward and took out his own gun that was hidden in his jacket pocket. He seemed to forget that I had my own gun, so I pulled the trigger.
BOOM!
The bullet flew out of the gun, and went into the man's leg. There was no way he could chase me now. He shrieked in pain and I wrapped my arms around his neck and cut off his oxygen supply. Within a few seconds, his struggling ceased. I did not kill him, though my inner demon really wanted to see blood. I quickly ran into the driver's seat and settled in. From past experience, there should've been a tracking device on the car in case the guy needed back up. I searched everywhere in the car: I even searched inside the seat! Eventually, I found a tracker on the engine, so I had to rip it off and put it on a random bird's leg. That'd keep them wondering for a while.
How the hell am I supposed to drive? Which one is the brake? I studied the three brakes and looked questioningly. I had seen my parents drive, but I never really paid attention. I always got rides from other people and when I was in danger, the agency.
I saw the first guy I had beat down struggle to stand up. His face was bruised and his nose and lip were bloody. I would've felt bad for the guy, but anger was fueling my body. With that, I pressed on a random pedal and the car lurched foward.
