A/N: PLEASE READ! For context, you and Goemon are far away from home, stranded on a large island. There is a deadly enemy waiting for you on said island and he has a bounty on you.
Under Goemon's protection, the two of you have been surviving in an old traditional village together for the past several days. Until one day, you both decided to take a step back and decompress for a while before taking on the enemy together.

Lots of fluff and Slight Angst near the end!

(And yeah this chapter basically sums up from a scrapped 7 page fanfic I wrote for a Goemon X Reader Story lol sorry)

Also I didn't proofread so sorry if it's confusing

The enemy's base was said to be located just miles off the coast and through the forest trees, hidden along the greenery. Maybe from there, you will find some sort of signal to call Lupin and Jigen a pick up. Killing the enemy will not only lift another bounty on your head, but also protect the villagers who thrive on the land. It was almost time to face the enemy head on. You both are ready and prepped for the battle, but you decided to calm things down for a day before heading off first thing in the morning.

There is news of a firework show near the central area of the village tonight. You went straight to Goemon and asked if you both can watch and he calmly accepted. He offered you to go on a hike with him up the small mountain located just behind the village within the island. From up there, there will be a large view of the village, the ocean, and the fireworks.

You couldn't say no.

So you both left at noon to start your trip up the trail. You brought your backpack with water and snacks just in case you both lost energy. Goemon, however, doesn't think he would be needing any of that stuff. If he's survived in the Antarctic with nothing but his same everyday clothes, then he should be fine. He's Goemon after all.

You on the other hand trained for obstacles like this. Fighting to defend yourself from bad guys is one thing and walking for long distances is another. Your stamina and energy may not surpass your samurai friend but you couldn't let that bother you. Besides, think of this as a good workout for your legs to get stronger. Soon you'll be kicking ass in no time.

"How do you think Lupin and Jigen are holding up?" You asked.

Goemon looked out into the sky as you two walked. "They are probably curious about our whereabouts. They will find us eventually."

Frowning, you thought more about home back in the country. How you miss your bed and the fresh city air as you make your way out of your apartment. Your favorite restaurant you would go to every once in a while. And your other family and friends, oh how much they must be worried sick about you. "And if they don't?" You raised a brow. "We can use the ships docked at the port but we have no idea where to go and where 'home' is. My phone isn't working but I'm sure there must be a way."

"You are homesick?"

"A little, but aren't you?"

Goemon cocked his head, "I have traveled around the globe on my own for many years. I am very used to this lifestyle and I do not have a specific 'home' anywhere. Just like Lupin, I simply stay at whatever hotel or apartment can shelter me throughte night. Although, I guess you can say that I am a little homesick from being so far away from our friends."

You made a silent oh before hesitating to ask this next question, "I wonder though, what about any relatives or family?"

The samurai stopped in his tracks. Thinking he took it the wrong way, you panicked and waved your hands frantically, "I-It's okay if you don't want to answer that. I was just curious is all!"

"No it's alright," his expression softened. "My grandmother is living in a household in Nara with my aunts and uncles there. I do visit them once a year but because of my training and my status, I must insure that I have developed more strength before seeing them again. Many assassins are after my head as well as other bounty hunters in Japan. Seeing my family more frequently than I do would put them in grave danger. As for my mother and father..."

He trailed off before continuing, "...I had only little time with my mother before she passed. As for my father, he trained me to hold and inherit the family honor and name. He taught me everything I know and eventually gave his own life to save me."

You frowned, "I'm sorry."

Goemon acknowledges and replied, "It was a long time ago but I live on to carry out my father's wishes to become a true samurai and surpass my ancestors."

Right there, you saw that spark of determination in his eyes. His sworn oath as he laid out his past right before you. You've never heard him tell you anything about his origins but something about it makes you feel like he trusts you a lot. Somehow you feel closer to him as if a stronger hold has now been achieved between you and him. You smiled at the man before you, practically a living legend that walks in the same dirt as you.

You sighed, "You are remarkable. I envy you Goemon. You're so cool, strong, and incredibly fast, I mean, you're practically a god."

"I doubt I am any form of a celestial-"

"That's beside the point," you scoffed. "What I'm saying is that you are absolutely amazing, Goe. I just know that your family must be very proud of you."

The samurai glanced at you before pressing his lips into a thin line, slightly blushing for a second. Suddenly all that pride in him washed away as he turned into a shy schoolboy again. You tried your best not to laugh but he is more adorable than he seems. "Thank you."

There was a comfortable silence between you two as you both take in the scenery of the forest around you. You both were still alongside the edge of the cliff which gave you a large view of the whole village and the ocean itself. The sound of the leaves rustling in the breeze, the sound of the dirt and gravel crunching beneath your shoes while you walk and the sun slowly going down, almost turning the sky into an orange color.

Goemon looks down at you while you gaze out into the sea. He made sure you didn't linger off too close to the edge but besides that, he enjoyed watching as you calmly sighed and the corner of your lips slightly curved. He spoke up, "What about you?"

You turn to face him, "About me?"

"Yes. Any family back at home?"

"Ah yes, and a few friends. We hang out very little though and they don't know anything about what I really do for a living. Just like you said, I don't want to bring any danger to them. Besides the stealing and the fighting... life has been a little rough."

"How so?"

You sheepishly scratched the back of your neck. "Well, I've been trying to figure out what I want to do these past several months and I realize maybe..."
Trailing off, you start to feel a little embarrassed to go any further. "You know what, I'll tell you later."

Goemon gave you a curious look but complied. If it was a serious topic, he's willing to give you your time and space.

Many minutes later, you both finally made it up to the top, and boy your legs were just about to pass out. The samurai gave you a teasing smirk, asking if you were already tired but you brushed it off, saying it was no big deal and it wasn't a problem for you. You put your backpack down and jugged down the water you had in your plastic bottle and Goemon scoffed as you practically drowned yourself in the water.

"Ughagh... How on earth are you not tired??" You exasperated.

The samurai smirked with amusement, "I simply hold more stamina and strength than you, (Y/N)."

You eyed him cockily, "Did you just roast me?"

"What? I did not burn you-"

"Hahaha! No no, not like that- never mind Goe," you huffed.

After a while, you two sat in awe as the sunset was about to disappear into the ocean. The clouds became orange and pink streaks like paint strokes across the sky. The whole valley simmered in a warm orange palette as the sun lowered itself to sleep. The sense of safety and peacefulness embraced your body as one last breeze of wind sent shivers across your spine. You smiled, "Well that trip was worth it, haha. This is beautiful..."

Goemon hummed in agreement before taking a glance at you. Your skin was basking in the orange glow and your hair swayed with the wind. If Lupin and Jigen were here, they would've made fun of him hard and cheered him on to move closer. The samurai stubbornly held his position and shrugged his thoughts of those two thieves away. After a while, fade into the purple night sky and the people down at the village gathered around to prepare for the firework show.

Soon you felt a little tired a rested your head against Goemon's shoulder. The man stilled in surprise and looked down at you, questioning himself about your intentions. After a moment, he began to relax and found himself leaning closer. But that fuzzy feeling went away when he saw you frowning and your brows furrowing. He was unsure to whether ask what was on his mind or leave you be. "About earlier," you began, "I've been thinking for a while about what the next step is for my future."

Goemon asks, "What do you mean?"

You shifted against his shoulder, "I mean, I've been doing this same charade of nothing but heists and surviving for my life. In the end, we would eventually grow old and barely do any of those things anymore. Sure, I might have all the money and shit I've stolen to help support my necessities in life but..."

"But?"

"...I'm starting to move my attention to other things." You shook your head. "Don't get me wrong, Lupin and the others are the highlights of my life but what if I happen to find somebody who I love? Someone that I can live and die for? Someone who can do the same for me?"

The samurai took a moment to process your words before saying, "You're looking for... love?"

You smiled and buried your face in your hands. "No, I already found him, but I'm not sure if he would like me the same way. I don't know- It's too hard to decide right now. Like I said earlier, I am a wanted criminal. No one would want me to bring trouble into their lives. Well, Lupin and Fujiko can hit it off but, I just..." You weren't sure what to say anymore.

"I think you'd be a lovely partner," A large hand gently rest over yours and the thumb brushing against your knuckles. You looked down before trailing your eyes up to Goemon who is watching intently, a little hesitant to pull his hand away. "But whether you are ready or not for that sort of thing, it is up to you. I know you will have everything sorted out soon but for now, relax and enjoy tonight. With me."

Your pupils dilated at his gaze and touch. For a brief moment, your heart skipped a beat and the blush on your cheeks grew darker as you flipped your hand to hold his. "Of course. Thank you, Goemon. I don't think I'd want to be anywhere else than here with you."

He sucked in a breath. You were surprised when his body moved closer to you. His other hand brushed a strand of hair behind your ear before grazing your jaw and up to your chin. Your breath hitched and found yourself leaning closer too. "Goemon...?"

His eyes straightened, realizing what he was doing and he froze in place. Part of him wanted to recoil back into his shell but another told him to stay there and wait for any signs of discomfort from you. But he didn't see any. Instead, he saw your eyes filled with curiosity and lust.

"(Y/N)..."

With your other hand, you raised it to Goemon's cheek and brushed your thumb over his cheekbone. He flinched at first but then relaxed and leaned into your touch. His skin may be a little rough from training and fighting, but you also wondered what his lips feel like...

His eyes glanced down at your parted lips, bashfully whispering, "I want..."

BOOM!

Startled, you both jumped back away from each other and prepared to get your weapons out until the whole night sky lit up with colors from the fireworks.

You looked up in awe as the firework show began. Looking back at Goemon, you began to laugh, seeing his embarrassed reaction and slight disappointment that the fireworks interrupted the moment between you two.

With that, you scooted closer next to him and leaned against him as you two watched the firework show together. Goemon shyly wrapped an arm around your back and smiled as you enjoy the show. He held you in his arms last night, allowing yourself to fall asleep by his side.

Just watching you trail off to sleep, made his heart grow heavier by the minute. There was this sudden urge that couldn't quite explain. It wasn't a nice feeling but there was still affection. He frowns and holds you closer to him.

You woke up the next morning, Goemon's body nowhere near you or in sight. All but a piece of parchment written in his hand writing next to your pillow. He is off the fight the enemy alone, without your help.

"Goemon!" You ran through the forest and looked around frantically for the samurai. The bushes that scratched across your legs were the least of your worries as the adrenaline pumping in your veins. You didn't care if you tripped or fall, whatever stops you from running, you're going to push past it anyways.

Finally, you see a light-colored blue kimono just yards away. Your heart jumped and your legs fastened their stride. Luckily, he wasn't moving or making any attempt to avoid you. But a twist in your gut just told you that something's not right.

"Hey!" You ran up behind him and picked up a pebble from the ground and threw it at him. But he did not bother to dodge nor swing it away from him.
"Goemon...!" You panted. "What the hell are you doing? Come back to the village so we can discuss this-"

"We can discuss it now," he didn't mean to say it as harshly as it sounded to be. Still, the atmosphere was tense as it is. You frowned and tightened your fists at your sides to keep yourself steady.

You tried to find the words to say something but your emotions were getting out of hand and caught up in your throat instead. There was a wall of silence between you two as he waited for you to speak up. The wind brushed comfortably against your skin and it seemed to be the only comfort you can get for now.

"Look," you began. "You don't just go off and decide to take on a deadly enemy alone when we both agreed to fight him together from the start. So why? What is it you're not telling me?"

No answer.

"You think that I would've been fine if you just left me without saying a word like that?" You gripped the hem of your shirt and stood tall, trying to hold back your emotions. "I thought we've already been through this. When we have a situation at hand, we work through it together. Not like this."

Finally, Goemon turns his body to face you. Right then and there you thought your stomach dropped from how tired and restless he looked. His face was unreadable but his hair was messy and the bags under his eyes are now visible. You wanted to run to him and cry in his arms, bring him back to the village so you both can get some sleep. But there was so much distance between you two, it's like you're walking on eggshells to get to him. He breathes in and says, "I've already made up my mind. I'm doing this alone."

"No."

"I want to make sure that you're safe-"

"You keep using that same excuse, over and over again!" You raised your voice. "I can take care of myself, Goemon. Let me go with you."

"It would be a waste if both of us are as good as dead."

"How can you even say that!? Who's going to be there to save you when you are in need? How will I know if you even come back at all?"

"(Y/N)," He looks into your eyes, "My life is not what is at stake here. He is after you. It's important for you to move on and live so you can be free. So leave. I shall do this without you standing in the way."

Your gaze widened with shock, then overwhelmed with anger. Taking long strides, you raised a hand to slap his face but he quickly caught your wrist and held you there. You groaned and tried to kick him in the shin but he took a step back before you could reach him. Finally, you charged at him and grabbed his kimono, hitting your fists against his chest with frustration. "You idiot!"

Goemon did not attempt to stop you this time. Instead, he just stood there, taking all of your punches in. His bare chest was soon turning red but that did not seem to have bothered him at all. He waited until you tired yourself out and soon cried against his shirt. You growled as the tears rolled down your cheeks and cursed yourself for crying in front of this fool. "Y-You idiot...!"

"(Y/N). You need to go home."

"No! You listen to me," You pulled yourself away to stare at him dead in the eyes. He could finally see your reddened eyes and the glistening tears dropping from your chin. For a second you could've sworn you saw a hint of emotion in his eyes but it soon faded away. You bit your lip, "I know you're only saying that because you want to protect me but can't you see why I won't let you do this?"

"(Y/N)-"

"Because I'm in love with you!" Your knees gave out from under you and you felt the soft grass. With your hands covering your face and your mouth quivering, you couldn't bare to look up or talk to him. At this point, you didn't care what his expression is. The sound of his Zantetsuken hitting the ground was enough.

"Fuck! It's because I love you, G-Goemon," you hugged yourself, trying to hold yourself together. But the tears won't stop.

The samurai stood there dumbfounded and still like a statue. "I..."

It took too long for him to come up with a response. You didn't wait for it. Instead, you let out every word that needed to be said, "It's been years since we've met. But the longer I'm with you, the more I feel for you than just a friend. Y-You took care of me, you stood by me, you made me feel like no other man has made me feel. When I look into your eyes, I see comfort, gentleness... trust."

"(Y/N)..."

You wiped your eyes and sniffed, "When you held me in your arms that night, I felt like no one can ever harm me ever again. You are my life, Goemon. I've been holding back and it scares me because I don't want anything to happen to you."

An unsettling wall of silence caved in. His stoic eyes bore into yours and for a moment you believed that nothing got through to him. You clenched your fists real hard to the point they drew blood. There was a sense of hope shrinking back into its small shell as Goemon's dead silence sounded louder than a lightning strike. You sighed and wiped away a tear, "I understand if you don't think of me the way I do for you. I get it. You have your priorities and I have mine. If I am the only one who's feeling this way then I-"

Goemon leaned down to captured your lips in his in one swift movement. You didn't realize that he was already crouched down at your level, holding your chin up with his thumb and kissing you desperately. Slowly. Savoring every moment and every second as if he was going to lose you forever if he stopped.

You were shocked at first but then you relaxed and gave in, kissing him back as both of your lips collided and made noises that sounded ever so beautiful. He drank up your moan and kissed a little harder, feeling the pulse from your tongue as your heart quickened and so did his.

All those months filled with tension have finally broke free.

Finally, he held your
