Lockwood's POV

"Lockwood, I don't understand," Lucy whined, "why must I come with you? Why can't you shop by yourself?"

"Because I'll need your help," I explained, "we're buying a lot of food. We're having Holly and Quill over for dinner, remember?"

"Oh, yeah. Holly," Lucy spat out, "why Holly, Lockwood? We all know we could do better. Except you," she added the last part under her breath, in vain hope I wouldn't hear. While I can't hear psychic sounds, I can hear.

"Yes, Holly," I retorted, "and I thought you were warming up to her. Stop being mean, Holly can teach us all a lesson in manners and hygiene. Especially you."

Lucy face turned scarlet. She hurriedly tilted her head to the side so I couldn't see. "Right," she slouched, not wanting to argue.

We walked on in silence until we reached the store we had been heading to. I pushed open the door, and paused for a minute, drinking in the food smells. I felt Lucy brush past me, and I looked up from the display I had been inspecting. "Lucy! Where are you going?"

Lucy didn't turn around, she merely halted. "We should split up, and I know what we need," she sniffled. She resumed walking, quickening her pace in order to dissolve into the crowd of shoppers.

"Hey, wait!" I yelled at her retreating back, "Lucy, stop!" I yelled again when she didn't stop.

She kept going, growing closer to the swarming people by the second. I ran after her, dodging random shoppers as I went. When I caught up to her, I grabbed her arm and swung her around to face me. But Lucy still kept her face turned away from me. She wrenched her arm out of my grip and moved to keep going, but I took hold of her arm again.

"Lucy, what are you doing?" I asked, bewildered.

When she didn't reply, I moved so I could see her face. I almost caught a glimpse of it when she turned away again.

"Why won't you show me your face?" I questioned her.

Lucy grabbed my hand in an attempt to yank it off her, but I held firm. She aimed a kick at my knee and when I gasped out in pain she took her opportunity to run away. "Lucy, wait!" I called.

A short distance away from me, Lucy stopped. She looked over her shoulder at me. Her eyes were red and her face tearstreaked. I watched as another tear slid down her cheek. In my state of confusion, she slipped away. I was so appalled that it took a minute to realise something.

I had never seen Lucy cry.

Author's note:

By the way... I'm not sure if the last sentence is true or not seeing as I don't have any of the books with me right now... sorry if it's not true...

Also sorry that this is really bad...

I'm sorry all around.
