Announcement (edited): Listen, you must find me very annoying now but here I am with another change. I decided to change the main character from OC to Y/N  and have re-written the end a bit because I wasn't so happy how fast I made it end. Thank you for reading! And  enjoy!

-------------------PROLOGUE----------------

He thought he had seen it all. Gods, aliens coming from the sky, his best friend becoming a living weapon- a ticking bomb ready to explode. He knew he had to let him go. Ever since he called him his mission.

There were, in spite of that, moments giving him hope. The time he got him out of that river ad saved his life again, the day he entered the cryo. He cautiously believed it might get better someday.

He spent years on the run without seeing him. When the news of Thanos came, he knew the day to meet his friend again came at last. He finally hugged his lifelong buddy but in that short moment of joy, he had to be honest with himself, he felt the end was near.

This is the endgame. The moment everything led to. Everyone was saying that but they all promised to fight. They wouldn't back out no matter what. They owed it to each other and the world. To Tony Stark.

His own words rung in his head. Earth just lost its best defender. After the so-called civil war, he didn't believe they would ever be a team again but the situation proved him wrong. He made the right choice of giving the phone to Tony. The short lived relief of seeing his name flash on the screen was long gone. He stood next to king T'Challa and looked at the people in front of him.

Most of the team was reunited. And the somewhat unity held out hope that Steve and Bucky would be alright and able to get a drink like they used to. The peak of the fight came and Thor got his majestic entrance. They all felt some relief. And then it happened. The snap. Thanos had succeeded in his plan. Half of the universe would cease to exist.

Steve? he turned in time to see his friend turn into dust.

He might've seen it all but nothing prepared him for that moment. Not even when Bucky fell off of that train. He walked over to the spot his friend just disappeared at. Confusion filled his mind and his heart sunk. Steve carried out his promise. He was with Bucky until the end of the line. Except that the line for Steve was far from over. They say hope dies last but, in that moment, Steve was assured he had lost it all.
