Lollie Parker

Lollie sat at the dining table as she helped her mom cut up vegetables to serve dinner for later that evening.

Maya walked inside and hugged Lollie from behind.

"Come on, we're gonna be late."

Lollie turned around and looked at Maya, "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask?"

Lollie smiled, "Just asking."

Lollie waved goodbye to her mom and Maya walked towards the door.

"Wait!" They heard.

The two looked towards the stairs and saw Noah rushing down them.

"I'm ready."

Maya and Lollie smiled at each other and headed out the door with Noah trailing behind.

I wouldn't tell the others, but Lollie really favored Maya, but not more than what she favored Farkle. She loved him.

"Pompeii. Lucas." Mr. Matthews said.

"You mean Farkle?" He asked.

"I mean Lucas. I want to see what you know." Mr. Matthews said.

"Okay, here's what I know." Lucas said, "Farkle."

"Why, thank you. Pompeii was an ancient village in Italy located near the beauty and culture of Naples. It was a resort town where the wealthy would go to soak up the sun." Farkle said.

"It was like the Hawaii of Italy." Lucas said.

"Thanks, Lucas." Mr. Matthews said.

"Call on me any time." He replied.

"Pompeii sounds so beautiful. We should go there. We should go there and be calm." Riley said.

"Let me tell you about a whole city that became very calm very quick. Now, who here knows about Mount Vesuvius?" Mr. Matthews asked.

"Mount Vesuvius was a pent up, boiling cauldron of I-wanna-do-somethin'." Maya said.

Lollie added, "Vesuvius sat quiet for a long time, but then it did what volcanoes in time must do. It 'sploded!"

"Why does a volcano have to 'splode?" Riley asked.

"Because if it doesn't, it'll just blow up worse later. Vesuvius wiped out the entire population of Pompeii. It was one of the greatest natural disasters the world had ever known." Mr. Matthews explained.

"Okay, then do it right now. Do what you need to do to be Maya and Lollie, but please don't wipe us all out." Riley said.

Lollie rolled her eyes.

The fire alarm started to go off.

"That's it! Oh, a fire alarm! Ooh, you sassy troublemakers! Fire alarm, everybody! Yes! Oh, my gosh! This is bananas!" Riley shouted.

"Your blood pumpin'?" Maya asked.

"Oh, it's so pumpin'!" She said.

"Good." Maya said, "We didn't do it."

"Yes, you did. Okay, single file, everybody! Choo-choo. Everybody find a safety buddy. My safety buddy is Maya and Lollie you're Lucas's safety buddy." Riley said.

She flipped Lollie around and pushed her into Lucas.

Lucas grabbed her forearms and steadied their balance.

"Thanks, bubs." Lollie smiled.

She didn't even realize she called him bubs.

"No- no problem."

He let go of her arms and she sat back down at her desk.

﹏﹏﹏﹏

"Explode! If you're going to explode, explode! Just do it. I can't wait. Explode!" Riley shouted.

The group sat at Topanga's "enjoying" each other's company.

Lollie looked over at Farkle, "What are you doing?"

He was squirming around in his seat.

Lucas smiled at everyone, "Mount Farkleuvius has awoken in all its bubbling glory."

"What is that?" Noah asked.

"That's my fancy British guy Mortimer." He said.

"Sounds like you're eating meatloaf." Farkle said.

"Meatloaf." Lucas repeated.

It finally got a laugh out of Lollie.

"Okay, thing number two hundred eleven he can't do, accents." Farkle said.

"Oh, but it's funny when he can't do things." Riley said.

"He's a face! He's just a face!" Farkle shouted. He faced Lollie, "What's the matter with you?"

Lollie shrugged her shoulders.

"Mount Farkleuvius sends two billion tons of burning lava straight into the air." Lucas said.

Farkle threw his hands in the air.

"And right back down on his head." He said.

Riley laughed.

"Why?" Farkle asked.

"Because you insulted Mortimer!" Lucas said.

"What's his last name?" Noah asked.

"Twiggle-bottom-Smythe." Lucas said.

Lollie laughed alongside the others.

"Okay fine, I'll do it." Farkle said.

He raised his arms in the air and throws them back down so the lava hit his face.

"Maya, what's going on with you?" Noah asked.

Lollie sighed and rested her head on Lucas's shoulder.

He slouched down so she would be more comfortable.

"It's like I don't have a role here anymore. Riley the Sweet, Farkle the Genius, Lollie the Greatest, Noah the Cute, Lucas the Good." Maya said.

"I thought that was gone." Lucas said.

"It's not gone. I'm gone and so is Lollie, we're the ones that are gone." Maya said.

"Maya, we're almost the same people we were when we met." Lollie said.

"Almost?" Maya asked.

"I mean, you really hated me. You don't anymore. No big deal."

"Maya, I've been down this road. Forget it. I thought I had to be something. That doesn't get you anywhere." Noah said.

"Yeah, and now you say "please" and "thank you," and what does that get you?" Maya asked.

"It gets me to like him. Do you still like him?" Riley asked.

"I don't know what I like anymore." Maya said.

Lollie sat up.

"Whoa." Farkle whispered.

"No whoa. No whoa while I'm figuring things out." Maya said.

She grabbed Farkle by the shirt he bent down and kissed Maya on the nose.

"Whoa."

"We're getting older. These are gonna be more unpredictable." Farkle said.

"I'm telling Smackle."

"I'm telling Smackle!"

"Maya? Lollie?" Noah questioned.

"We need to know who we are before we know what we like." Maya said.

Lollie stood up beside her, "She's right."

"Hey, you know what's up with me? The cash register is short one hundred dollars. So what's up with you? That's great. You know what's up with me? Who took my hundred dollars?" Katy asked.

"Just do it." Riley said.

"I didn't take the money." Maya said.

"Yes, you did! Maya, you took the money! She took the money, everybody! Yeah! She's a cat burglar! Lollie's too good to steal any money from anyone." Riley said.

"I didn't do it." Maya said.

"Yes, you did. This is all over." Riley said.

"Well, if no one took my hundred dollars, then what happened?" Katy asked, "Somebody just put two fifties under the whole drawer and forgot all about it?"

She lifted the plastic part of the cash register and saw two fifty-dollar bills, "Somebody just... did that. Stay in school, kids."

"I don't want my role with us to be someone you think takes money or sets off fire alarms. You think you know what I'm capable of? You have no idea what I'm capable of. You guys want the Maya and Lollie back, the Maya and Lollie were really are? You got them." Maya said.

Maya grabbed Lollie's hand and dragged her out of Topanga's.
﹏﹏﹏﹏

Lollie stood in her room at her dad's place.

Maya had waited outside for her, supposedly.

"Can I come in?"

Lollie nodded, knowing that the person couldn't see her.

The person came in and saw Lollie standing in the middle of the room.

"Whatcha doin'?" Alexa asked.

Lollie didn't answer, she was, or what she thought she was doing, "plotting.".

"Is this some type of silent treatment? I can take a hint." Alexa said.

Lollie quickly shushed her.

Lollie walked towards the window and peaked out.

Maya was nowhere in sight.

"Are you kidding me?" Lollie muttered.

"What? What's going on?" Alexa asked.

Lollie came up with an idea.

She grabbed the fifty-dollar bill off of her dresser.

Her grandmother gave it to her so she could go out and eat with friends.

Lollie faced Alexa, "I'll be back. Cover for me."

"Cover for you? Where are you going?"

Lollie grabbed her jean jacket and slipped her boots on.

"Out. Just please cover for me. I already told them goodnight. Just pretend I'm asleep."

"Lollie!" Alexa shouted.

"Thanks!" Lollie said.

She headed out the window and headed off to where she thought Maya could be.
﹏﹏﹏﹏

Lollie walked behind Maya and grabbed her arm.

It scared the crap out of Maya.

She jerked back but Lollie still held her arm.

"What are you doing, Hart?" Lollie asked.

"Who are you?" One girl asked.

"The girl who now has a hammer instead of her hands." Lollie said.

She faced Maya, "Are you crazy?"

"Lollie, it's not what you think." Maya said.

"I know exactly what I think. I have a hammer and you have a brick and they have their hands. Show them who you really are, I might learn something about you too."

The girl grabbed Lollie's shoulder and forcefully made Lollie look at her.

"Who are you?" She asked again.

Maya never seen Lollie remotely angry, ever. Even when the two hated each other, this was different.

Lollie looked at the two girls.

"Hello? I'm talking to you. Can you speak?"

The girl pushed Lollie towards Maya. Maya caught her before she fell.

Lollie's whole demeanor changed.

Maybe Lollie had changed, but was it for better or for worse?

She pushed herself off Maya and walked to the girl that pushed her.

"Lollie, don't." Maya pleaded.

"Keep down Hart. You don't scare us."

Lollie dropped the hammer and pushed the girl down to the ground.

Lollie crouched down beside her and grabbed the hem of her shirt, which jerk her off the ground, "You don't know me. I know me and I know I wouldn't keep testing me."

"Or what?"

Lollie wasn't known to fight... like, ever. Maybe she pushed Noah and Mariah around, but those were her siblings.

Maya looked over and saw the other girl walking behind Lollie.

The girl had the hammer Lollie dropped in her hands.

"I would drop that hammer if I were you." Lollie said.

The girl on the ground looked back at her friend.

She indicated for her to drop the hammer.

When Lollie wasn't paying attention, the girl on the ground grabbed her hair.

"You're not tough." The girl whispered.

Lollie quickly grabbed the girl's hand and twisted it.

The girl yelped and let go of Lollie's hair.

"Anything else you want to show me?" Lollie asked, "Just know I'll break whatever you throw at me."

Maya grabbed Lollie and pulled her up.

"We know who we are." Maya said.

Maya faced the statue.

Before you knew it the cop had both Maya and Lollie in hand.
﹏﹏﹏﹏

The officer had Lollie in one arm and Maya in the other.

"You have failed." Mr. Matthews said.

"Baby girl, what did you do?" Katy asked.

"New York code one four five and one two zero." The officer said.

"Vandalism." Topanga said.

Bailey stood up, "Lollie, you fought somebody."

Lollie could hear the disappointment in her mother's voice.

"What?" Mr. Matthews questioned.

"What?" Katy questioned after.

"Maya, Lollie." Riley muttered.

"You. You did this. Put me in jail for the rest of my life and don't allow visitors or else she'll come and bring me a stupid lemon meringue pie!" Maya said.

"It's for you and all your jailbird friends." Riley said.

"You're the girl whose head she put back on." The Cop told Riley.

"What?" Riley asked.

"She's our best friend and she ruined us!" Maya said.

"Well, they're my best friend and I love them." Riley said.

The door opened at the whole room faced the boys.

"We couldn't find them." Noah said.

"Looks like somebody found them." Farkle said.

"Maya, Lollie, what did you do?" Lucas asked.

"She did a number on a public park. A park on my beat. My park. I watch that park every day." The Cop said, "She, oh. Trust me. If I wasn't there she would've taken somebody's head off."

Lollie sighed, "I'm sorry."

"You all care about these girls?" The Cop asked.

"We do." Mr. Matthews said.

"Well, we're gonna take a little field trip. I'm gonna show you all just want these girls did to my park. Let's go." He said.

"You did this." Maya told Riley.

"What? Maya, I wasn't even with you." Riley said.

"Yeah, you were." Lollie said.
﹏﹏﹏﹏

"I had a brick in my hand." Maya said.

"Why?" Riley asked.

"I had a hammer." Lollie added.

"Why?" Riley asked again.

"Because somebody went after you." Maya said.

"Who, Maya?" Mr. Matthews asked.

"These two girls I used to know." Maya said, she paused, "Lollie was only defending me. I could have been them. Riley, I would have been them. But I'm not. Because they think a hammer and a brick makes you strong. And as much as I wanted to throw a brick through a window, I know that if I did that, that's what would make me weak. I'm strong, because there's something inside me that stops me now. It knows how important you've been in my life and it'll never let me do any real damage as long as I live. That part inside me, I'm gonna call it Dorothy." Maya said.

"Call it whatever you want. I'm just glad that you didn't do anything bad." Riley said.

"Yeah. How come I ain't bad, Matthews?" Maya asked.

"The friends we choose can have the most profound influence in our entire lives, one way or the other."

"This way." Maya said.

"I'm proud of you, Maya." Katy said.

"What happened to the girls?" Farkle asked.

"Lollie is what happened to them. She scared them. She was only helping me. I mean I scared them too, but Lollie did the most." Maya said.

"Maya?" Noah walked up to her, "So, you're Maya again?"

"Well, they seem to think so. They ran away so fast." Maya said.

Farkle looked over at Lollie. She hadn't said much.

"Why'd you fight them?" Farkle asked.

Lollie shrugged, "I was threatened. She pushed me and I pushed her back. Maya's my friend, I would've done the same for any of you."

"Is this who you are?" Riley asked.

"No." Lollie started, "That was never me. I've never done anything like this. I'm Lollie and I hope what happened today never happens again."

"My park. I watch this park every day." The Cop said.

"We're sorry." Maya said.

The two stuck out their wrist.

"You know, I'm not gonna give up on that Carla and Renee. And I don't want you to be like them, okay?" The Cop asked.

"We can't." Maya said, "Dorothy won't let us."

"New York code one four five and one two zero. Vandalism and fighting. I'm gonna write this one up. Then I'm gonna put it into a folder. Then I'm gonna misplace the folder. And if I never hear from you three little hoodlums ever again, that folder remains misplaced." The Cop said.

"I'm a hoodlum." Riley said.

"Why are you giving us a break?" Lollie asked.

Noah pushed her shoulder.

"My park. I look at this park every day. Thank you." He said.

Topanga smiled, "Thank you."

"Hey, sometimes the system works." He said.

"Thanks for putting my head back on." Riley said.

"Yeah. You, too."

Riley pulled the two into a long hug.

"I'm glad you two are okay, but Lollie," Bailey started, "I don't even know what to say."

Lollie broke away from Riley and Maya.

"I'm sorry, but-"

"But?"

"But, I don't want you to think any differently of me."

Bailey pulled Lollie into a hug, "I know who you are. I'm just glad you're safe."
﹏﹏﹏﹏

The next day the group sat in the park.

"Before I knew you-" Maya started.

"You always knew me." Riley said.

"When I was real young, I used to come to this park and look at this statue and wonder if I would ever have friends as good as these. That would hold hands with each other and smile. I used to wonder what it was they were so happy about. Now I know." Maya said.

Lollie stood up and grabbed Maya's hand.

Hand in hand with the others, maybe they all knew what true friendship was.
