Chapter 6

●●●

The first thing Taehyung noticed when he woke up was that he was no longer sitting, instead lying on his side. The second thing was that Jungkook wasn't there anymore. Not that he was cold any longer. It had gotten warmer again and he immediately knew the reason when he opened his eyes. Sunlight was falling through the window into the shed.

Jungkook was sitting where Tae had been sitting before on that mat pile, apparently bored as he threw a ball into the air before catching it again. And then repeating the process. For a couple of seconds Taehyung couldn't do anything but watch him.

To his surprise Jungkook didn't seem to notice him sitting up. Even with his heightened senses. He only reacted when Taehyung called out his name.

"Jungkook?"

The vampire turned to him, his eyes completely red now. Taehyung's surprise must have been obvious because Jungkook just smiled awkwardly, facing the wall again. "I'm really hungry. That's also why I'm sitting here right now."

There was an odd feeling of... gratefulness. Because Jungkook had moved away in a situation he totally could have taken advantage off. A situation Taehyung really hadn't been feeling that comfortable with in the first place, but for some reason it made him feel safer now. Sharing a room with Jungkook. Even though the vampire was clearly growing more dangerous by the minute.

Vampires and hunger were not a thing to be trifled with. Back when he had been in elementary school and they had to take a class on vampires, he had learned that vampires could lose control even after one day without blood. Not in casual situations, but if they were tempted. For example if someone was bleeding.

And Jungkook was probably at one day without blood now. But he seemed pretty well controlled so far, his shoulders relaxed as he threw the ball into the air once again and caught it, turning it around in his hands a couple of times.

"I know it won't do much, but it might distract you from your empty stomach." Taehyung got up and grabbed one of the protein bars, handing it to Jungkook. "We should share them."

Jungkook looked at him for what felt way too long before hesitantly extending his hand and grabbing the bar. As Jungkook was fumbling with the packaging Taehyung made his way back over to the mat on the floor, sitting down and watching as Jungkook took bites from the bar. His fangs were even longer now, probably unconsciously extended because of the hunger.

"Thanks." He was awfully quiet now. Taehyung wondered what the reason was. Was it the hunger? Or was there something else? He really couldn't tell.

"Everything alright with you?"

Jungkook sighed but nodded. "Yeah. I'm just really hungry and your scent in here keeps getting more and more intense. I'd tease you for stinking up the place if it wasn't messing with my head so much." He chuckled, closing his eyes for a few seconds.

"Well, then I'm glad it's messing with your head so much." Taehyung joked before getting up. "You should drink some water. Maybe it will help."

Jungkook nodded. "Will do." He climbed from the pile, moving towards the sink where he first washed his face for a bit before leaning down and drinking some water. Taehyung watched, leaning against the wall maybe two or three meters away from Jungkook.

Once the vampire was done he threw his head back, shaking his wet bangs out of his face. "That's better." When he turned back around to Taehyung his eyes had gone back to their normal color. Taehyung felt relieved, but he knew they were only buying time. Hopefully enough that they could get out of here before Jungkook's hunger pushed him over the edge.

"Could you maybe use that water to wash your neck... and your upper body for good measure? I feel like it might help a bit with the smell." Jungkook asked him, sounding a lot more focused now.

Taehyung nodded, moving past Jungkook and putting the hoodie Jungkook had lent him to the side before pulling his t-shirt over his head. He could feel Jungkook's amused eyes watching him.

"What?"

"You've got an awfully cute tummy for someone who is so popular with the ladies. Shouldn't you work out more?" Jungkook teased, crossing his legs and leaning forward to grin at Taehyung in that cheeky way, but for some weird reason it didn't feel anything like it usually would. It didn't feel like he was picking a fight with him... provoking him. Just poking fun at him for a bit. Like friends would.

Taehyung admittedly liked that a lot more than how Jungkook had acted previously.

"What they like is that I'm true to myself and who I am. Not like you with your defined, superficial abs." Taehyung started washing his face, hair and neck.

"You've been staring?" Jungkook asked with a way too sly grin.

"Oh come on. All the guys have been staring. It's jealousy. Sometimes when you run off to have one of your long ass shower adventures they talk about it, like that's not super gay." He rubbed his hair before shaking his head.

Jungkook shrieked when he got some water on him and Taehyung couldn't help laughing, not feeling even the tiniest bit of remorse. He continued washing the rest of his body, grateful that it was actually warm enough in the shed to let his body air dry.

"It's totally gay but I get it. I just have an amazing body. And I'm not having shower adventures. The locker room showers are fucking disgusting." Jungkook stated, watching Taehyung clean his body. He seemed a lot more relaxed now.

"I mean, yeah, they are. But you always shower forever. I don't think I've ever seen you come out of the shower. Just go in." Taehyung chuckled, washing his neck once again for good measure.

"I'm just avoiding ya'll. I swear, all of you hate me. I mean, you at least just ignore me, but the death stares I've received from the others... You joined this class later, but the dynamic was always 'Let's hate the vampire.' I mean, I get it. I have done a lot of shit, but it was like that even when I was just an innocent, sweet baby vampire drinking from blood bags."

Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "I doubt there was ever a time when you were just a innocent, sweet vampire."

Jungkook grinned, displaying his fangs in such a non threatening way that Taehyung couldn't help but have a short thought about how attractive it was. He quickly forced it away. That certainly wasn't a thought he wanted to have about Jungkook, even if the vampire was objectively attractive. "Maybe I wasn't. I do like teasing a lot, but I never did any bad stuff."

"Why were they acting like that then? There must have been some reason."

Jungkook just shrugged his shoulders, watching as Taehyung sat down on the floor where the sun was shining through the window. "I was the only vampire in class. That was enough." Jungkook straightened his back. "People hate vampires. I mean, you do too. And usually vampires are just invulnerable. So a weak vampire child is a great way to vent frustration. Things have changed and I'm no longer weak, but that doesn't mean their opinion of me has changed."

"If that's actually true that's really fucking mean and I'm sorry that happened to you." Taehyung declared. "Even if you're a bit cheeky that's really... yeah." He wasn't so sure what else to say. He didn't like vampires, but that didn't mean he thought every vampire deserved to die, like some seemed to think. There was something else he wanted to say something about, though. "Also I don't hate vampires... okay, maybe I do. But I don't think every vampire is bad. I just have my own bad experience with vampires so I'm not particularly fond." He half expected Jungkook to ask about it, but the boy didn't.

"Sorry for whatever happened. Not every vampire is like that... and not like me either. I know I keep saying otherwise but I might be pretty mean for a vampire." He chuckled, still looking down at his hands.

"You are mean... though if you weren't such a dick when it comes to drinking blood I could even imagine us getting along." Taehyung stated honestly. Jungkook seemed okay like this. The main reason why they really ended up clashing with each other all the time was the whole lying thing. Taehyung really couldn't wrap his head around the reason why Jungkook thought it was okay.

But then again, he wasn't a vampire. Didn't know what being one meant.

"I'd like that."

Taehyung furrowed his brows, confused. "What?"

"Us getting along. I'd like that." Jungkook said, leaning forward and almost looking excited.

"I think you didn't get the point of what I was saying. If you didn't do all the shit you do I think we might get along. But you are doing it."

"But if I stopped doing it you think we might get along?" Jungkook asked, tilting his head to the side, acting almost playful.

Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "What are you trying to say?"

"I could switch to feeders. The main reason I spend so much time picking up girls is because I'm fucking bored."

It didn't make much sense to Taehyung. For a bunch of reasons. "You don't even like humans. And certainly not me."

Jungkook shrugged his shoulders. "Who knows. I'm locked in here and fucking hungry but it's actually quite fun. I don't know. Haven't talked to anyone this much in a while. I think I like it." Jungkook grinned. "I'm not even sure if I dislike you. Fighting with you is just a lot of fun." For a second he seemed like he was contemplating something. "It's weird. I don't know." He shrugged his shoulders.

"So you'd stop lying to girls to get their blood simply because you wanna hang out with me?" Taehyung raised an eyebrow at him. That sounded a lot like a lie.

"I've run out of good looking girls anyways. I'd have to go for the decent ones next." Jungkook scrunched up his nose and Taehyung was anything but impressed, sighing softly. His body had almost dried off now. How fucking quick had that just been?

"I really don't get you, Jungkook. Like, I really don't."

"Don't worry I don't really get it myself either. I just wanna hang out with you more... if you'd be willing." He offered his hand up for a handshake.

Taehyung hesitated. "Our teachers would be so confused if we actually didn't fight for once."

His hand still extended Jungkook nodded. "One more reason to do it. You just have to promise me to give me a chance and I'll stop making girls believe I actually like them just to drink their blood."

"What's the catch?" Taehyung got up.

"I'm really fucking annoying, but I believe you know that already. Deal?" When Taehyung shook Jungkook's hand the vampire grinned even wider.

Taehyung sighed. "The sacrifices I have to make to make the world a better place."

Jungkook seemed to be having his fun though. "Oh come on. You at least have to be glad we won't get in trouble anymore."

The hint of a smile tugged at Taehyung's lips. "Alright. Maybe."

"That's better." Jungkook grinned. "Let's play ball. We got nothing better to do."
