Nezu POV

I wish I could tell myself that it's been a few relaxing and peaceful weeks where we enjoyed the winter snow and young Shoto's birthday; but outside of those two things, it's just been stressful and busy. I've been completely swamped between trying to start an investigation into Aldera and dealing with principal duties like planning for the upcoming school year.

Tuski is out on a murder case in America for the month so I've been dealing with the insufferable idiots that occupy the Mustafu police station in his absence. I think I've put in a request for investigation and warrants for entry to the school about a dozen times now and I think if my request is ignored or denied out of insignificance one more time, then I'll go down there in person and make of complaint that they can't ignore or deny.

Aside from those problems, there is so much paperwork that needs to be done. Classes have to be approved, teachers to pay, schedules to form, work to plan out, safety precautions and defenses to check and update, etc. I had a stack of paper, my size if I stood on the desk, on either side of me as I slowly went through it, reading and signing where necessary. I had just finished signing off a small pack of prospective mathematics assignments for Ectoplasm when the phone rang. Recognizing the number, I picked up the phone and answered with the second ring.

"Ahh, good morning Meli-san. What do I owe the pleasure of a call from the HPSC President?" I tried to use my most cheerful voice but I was tired and didn't want to deal with whatever bullshit the HPSC was coming to me with this time.

"Nezu, a pleasure but there has been development that I have recently been made aware of." She responded with a flat and seemingly annoyed tone. It made my fur stand on edge and bristle with agitation. I don't have time for this on top of everything else. Telling myself that I would simply listen to what she wanted him for and only take it on if it was a dire situation, he reply pleasantly. "Yes, and what kind of development did you come across?"

"A couple of years ago, two civilian children were saved unexpectedly at a raid. Would you know anything about them or where they are now?" I brought the phone. away from my ear and stared at it in silence. I had to question to myself how the HPSC president could have found out about the nekos. They never get involved with rescued civilians, much less raids. "Yes, I am aware of and still in contact with both children. I have been observing their growth and recovery since their rescue. They are in the care of two other pro heroes infact."

"And why were they not put directly under UA guardianship or much less the commission's guardianship? We weren't even told of their development. We could have provided proper homes for both of them, I am aware that one of them is Endeavors son, and give them lots of security and grooming into proper citizens and future heroes."

I growled lowly as I am already aware of a few of the commission's grooming methods. These were some of the reasons why I hadn't informed them. The nekos deserved peace and to experience the rest of their childhood without the burdens of 'grooming'. They were still young, and they were still untrusting of people. Putting them under an institution's security would have isolated them and been terrible for them. They needed to find a family.

"They needed a family. They needed to have a childhood too."  I had put niceties aside and was straight with my responses now. I don't trust the commission farther than I can throw them, never have. I have a gut feeling they have something hidden in that large building of theirs. I know Hawks came from them but no 18-year-old, one that should typically. start their career as a sidekick, be powerful and capable enough for a top 5 position right after debut.

Putting Hawks aside for another day, I didn't trust the commission's intentions with my darling neko nephews. "We could have provided a childhood that they would be happy with." I frowned as I immediately shot back, "Are you sure about that?"

The president scoffed before responding, " Todoroki Shoto is the son of the number 2 hero and Midoriya Izuku is the son of All For One. They were in the hands of villains for a long time. They are not the typical rescued civilian children that just require new placement and protection. They are experiments. They need to be trained, tested, and observed properly. They are powerful and dangerous. You had no right to place them in the custody of top 50 heroes when they had a place of custody under top 5 heroes or ourselves."

I had been bristling through her whole rant, but at that moment I finally connected how the nekos got on the commission's radar. Fucking All Might. He couldn't get the nekos through me so he went directly to the commission. I tried taking a calming breath as the president continued on her rant about how the nekos should be in the commission's custody.

After believing I calmed down enough, I interrupted her, "Madam President," no more pleasantries cause this was business, "I understand your concern for the nekos but I shall reassure you once again that they are in good hands. Shoto and Izuku are both trauma survivors, Shoto for 5 years and Izuku for all his young life. They are not mere experiments. They are two bright and talented boys who will become the future. I understand they have not decided if they will pursue heroics and it is not our call to decide for them. Likewise, they are perfectly happy where they are at the moment and they have the majority of the UA looking out for their well-being as well."

I took a deep breath because I had gotten to the point of yelling. The president was quiet on the other line, possibly in angered shock, so I continued. "They are not dangerous and their birth connections do not matter at the moment. All that matters is getting these two, now young teens, more acclimated to society and giving them their lives back. They grew up being tested and trained, they do not require anything beyond a loving family and a stable form of protection. Both of which they have."

"But-" she tried interrupting, "No. They are human beings just like everyone else. As you are currently arguing this matter with one of the only individuals that may have some type of hands-on experience to relate to their circumstances, I would have hoped you'd take my words more seriously and act with a bit more grace and respect for those poor nekos."

I could hear her fumbling with her words, unable to string a coherent sentence together, but I was done with this conversation. "Now, Midoriya and Todoroki, who now go by Sun and Moon, are in safe hands with heroes watching over them constantly. This conversation is done for today and while I pray it doesn't get brought up again I will not test my luck. Have a pleasant day Madame President. Watch over your commission respectably as I do my school and affiliates."

With that I hung up the phone without another word and let out a loud sigh, leaning back in my chair. I hopped to the ground and walked over to the side table where my tea station was at. I brewed some chamomile tea as I rack my brain on our future steps. It was obvious that Yagi was getting the HPSC involved at this point. While I understand why as the commission has a lot of leeway in the world of heroes, that was a stupid act on his part.

The commission isn't strong in the legal department, as they tend to stray from their own rules and regulations, and they don't have my skills in investigations and blackmail. Yagi secured his fate by aligning with the HPSC, now I had to play my move in this expansive game of chess.

The prize?

The nekos and the outcome of their newly independent lives and futures.
