I bit my lips closed to keep from exclaiming when I was thrown into the just-legally-big-enough cell.
I got up to the glass. The man and I looked at each other. Strait in the eyes.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"What are you?" he asked me.
"Lutaine," I answered. "And the name's Max Temporal. If you're gonna hold me captive, you could at least be a LITTLE civil about it. Now who are you?"
He stood a little taller, looking down on me. Something I was far too use to, "Captain Jack Harkness. Leader of Torchwood."
"Yeah, I know where I am." I took off my black glasses and cleaned them on my shirt, "I was told to stay away. Congrats. You're the first member of Torchwood to meet a Lutaine. To be honest, you guys keep a low profile pretty well. But it'd be even better if ya lost the logo." I nodded to his headset with the logo on the side.
He just glared at me, "What did you do to that guy you were with?"
"Who, Johnny?" I decided to look back up at Captain Jack, "I didn't do anything to him."
"Oh come on!" why couldn't this guy believe me? Maybe he was just shocked that I was giving him answers in the first place. "He was so enticed with you. What was it? Hypnotism? Mind control?"
"I'm telling you, I didn't do anything," one thing I was good at was keeping my cool. "I love Johnny. Why would I do anything to take away his free will? Besides, I don't have hypnosis powers. Lutaine only inherit one power from their parents."
"And yours would be..."
"I'm a shifter. I can shape shift into any animal know to man."
"And what do your kind do?" he asked, "Are you robbers? Murderers?"
Wow. Now all the talk Dad had given me about segregation made more sense. Humans think that just because something isn't the same as them, it's inferior. And if it's as smart as them they see it as a threat. "Well that's a little prejudice don't you think? We live like humans do."
"Do you have parents?" he was still stern.
I gave him a look, " Of course I have parents. I wasn't made in a test tube."
"Who are they?" Captain Jack looked almost afraid to ask.
He probably should have been. And I probably shouldn't have been telling him all this. "My dad's Creed Temporal. My mom is..." thoughts of her flushed into my head. I could get a bad rep for this but I'd already started... "My mom is Lisa Crowell."
It was the captain's turn to give ME a look.
I rolled my eyes. Ridiculous. "Look her up if you don't want to believe me."
He glared at me in a I-might-just-do-that sort of way. He touched the side of his headset, "Foster, give me a complete background on Creed Temporal and Lisa Crowell."
What had I done?!
