N A R I
The guards led the hundreds of players out of the door and into what looked like a huge hallway that looked like a unicorn had puked all over it.
Nari sighed as she walked up to the screen to get her photo taken.
" Please look at the camera." It instructed, and she did as told.
" Smile!" She did not smile.
The classical music continued to play as they walked up the seemingly never ending stairs. Nari's legs were tired by the time they reached their destination.
When they opened the doors, light bled through, and Nari held a hand over her eyes as they stepped out. They appeared to be outside, but a quick scan of your surroundings would reveal that they were in a giant box disguised as the outside.
They heard the sound of gates clanking, and turned to see that the doors had shut. Nari began to feel nervous.
Two players at the front were chatting, and Nari discreetly listened in.
" What's that? Over there." The blonde boy, player 324 asked.
" Looks really freaky." Player 250 snickered.
" Damn, that thing has a freaking huge head." It appeared to be a giant doll, with a orange dress, yellow shirt and brown pigtails.
" Here is the first game." The woman's voice was heard on the PA again.
" You will be playing red light, green light." Chatter spread amongst the players.
" The kids game?" Nari muttered, kicking up the sand with her shoes. She used to play it with her brothers when she was little. The doll whirred as it turned to face the tree behind it.
" You are allowed to move forward when 'it' shouts out, " green light", stop when 'it' shouts, 'red light." Nari shrugged. Seems simple enough.
" If your movement is detected afterward, you will be eliminated."
" Red light, green light?" 118 spoke up from beside her. He was speaking to 456.
" The thing we did as kids in the playground?" 456 didn't answer as the PA repeated the rules.
A timer for 5 minutes began at the far end, and the doll began to sing.
" Green light..." she sang for a few seconds, and everyone moved forward slowly. 324 went quickly.
" Red light." They all froze, but Nari watched as player 324 lost his balance and wobbled.
" Player 324. Eliminated." Nari winced. Sucks to be him.
She didn't think it was so funny though when a loud bang made her ears ring, and played 324 fell to the ground.
" That bang. Did you hear it?" 118 spoke again. Nari nodded. She was really nervous now.
The dolls head turned again.
" Green light..." she repeated, and everybody rushed forward.
" Red light." Player 250 stopped right beside 324. Nari was just behind them, a little over to the left.
" Hey, you got eliminated, idiot. You can stop with the act." 250 snickered. Nari would've too if she hadn't seen player 324 splutter and then shoot blood out of his mouth.
250 straightened up just a bit, and Nari's eyes widened.
" Don't move." She gritted her teeth as she said it, as not to be detected by the doll.
250 didn't listen, and stumbled before starting to run away. The doll detected his movement, and it was like time stopped as he was shot in the chest.
His blood splattered onto a woman's face nearby, and Nari breathed heavily. All she had to do was stay still.
The woman touched her face in disbelief, before screaming and sending the other players into a frenzy.
Nari breathed deeply. Thankfully, she was ahead of most, so she didn't have anybody shoving past her. Her eyes watered, but she didn't move.
Nari could hear all the people running to the doors. She could hear them all dying too. She just had to wait until the panic was over. Who was she kidding, she was terrified. But she tried to keep her common sense.
She shut her eyes tight as the gunfire stopped.
" I will now repeat the rules." The stupid PA ladies voice came on again.
" You are allowed to move forward when 'it' shouts, 'green light', stop when 'it' shouts, 'red light'. If your movement is detected afterward, you will be eliminated." Eliminated. The word seemed so much deadlier now than it did before.
She repeated them again, but Nari just blocked
it out. Sweat dripped from her hairline. She was the farthest out.
The doll started to sing again, but nobody moved. Nobody but player 001.
Eyes wide, Nari watched as he moved forward with a smile. Did he actually have dementia? Is he psychotic?
Nari watched as he moved forward again, and he stopped. Then the music started again, and Nari rushed forward. She was going to die if she just stood there.
Slowly, everyone else did too. She sang again, and she flinched as two gunshots went off behind her.
The doll started to sing again, and Nari watched as 101 ran beside her, and 067 trailed him with eyes ready to kill.
On the next go, he seemed to notice her.
" Who is that? I hear you." He grunted, frustrated.
" The bitch who crossed you." 067 bit back, and Nari smirked. She loved her.
" You little shithead." He seethed as another gunshot went off.
" Want me to cross you one last time?" 067 reached up and grabbed onto his hair, and he seemed to panic.
" Quit trembling, jerk. He'll kill you if you get caught." 067 smirked. As the doll started to sing again, she pulled him behind her and let him fall to the floor.
The prick deserved it.
The doll started to sing again, and Nari went to run, but a grip on her leg stopped her. She turned and saw a young woman, covered in blood, sobbing.
" I don't wanna die." She sobbed.
" Let me go. Do you want me to die?" Nari snaps. The doll started to sing again, and she ripped her foot away, a gunshot going off behind her when the doll turned.
They did this for a few runs, and Nari had to run maybe 2 more times. But, as she went to run, she tripped on a body, and her life flashed before her eyes as she fell forward.
As she excepted her fate, assuming she was gonna die, she was surprised when a pull on her jacket kept her alive. She craned her head, and saw that player 212 had a grip on her, and she signalled her to be quiet.
Nari complied, and ran two more times before she jumped over the finish line. Panting, she slowly sat up and met the woman's eyes, giving her a grateful nod. She nodded back.
