It was the next day and you were preparing with your Pokémon for the first Gym Battle you'd experience as the Gym Leader, against a kid named Kalei.

Apparently his team consisted of mainly Bug Types but you heard he caught a few Water Types and trained them to be able to defeat you.

You'd probably send out Typhlosion first, Talonflame second, Volcarona third and then Houndoom at the end. Most likely Mega Evolve him too.

It could catch him off guard, since Houndoom was known as your Star Pokémon.

Many people were watching in the crowd, you knew that most likely Chairman Rose was there to watch you battle too. He was always in the crowd for new people.

Kalei entered the arena and so did you, Kalei waved to the crowd but you could care less about that. Kalei looked strong but was he strong?

"Morning Kalei! Come to challenge me already?" You asked

"Yeah! And I'm gonna win!" He answered

Cocky. That could be his downfall.

"Well then, let's get on with this battle." You smiled

"Bring out your Pokémon!" The announcer called

He brought out a Vaporeon, seemed pretty confident too.

"Let's go Typhlosion!" You exclaimed

"Typhlo!" Typhlosion called

"Use Water Pulse on Typhlosion!" Kalei ordered

Vaporeon did as asked but Typhlosion came out unscarred, training against Water Types was something you did before you were a Gym Leader.

"What?!" Kalei said

"Our turn! Start off with Eruption!" You shouted

Typhlosion jumped up to send out the move and it covered the battle field although the protective barrier between the stands and the field had protected the crowd.

Vaporeon withstood the attack and then looked back to her trainer who was stressed out already, your battle tactic was to make sure the trainer would doubt their choices and it was working already.

"Okay Vaporeon! Use Hydro Pump and then a series of Tackle!" Kalei yelled

Typhlosion seemed to have gotten a bunch of damage done, most likely because of the multiple tackles. Hydro pump didn't do much.

He must've trained a bunch with Tackle.

"Okay Typhlosion! Use Smokescreen and then use Gyro Ball!" You called

Typhlosion used the two moves and Vaporeon got more anxious when Typhlosion was unable to be seen, a Gyro Ball was sent to Vaporeon's back and you could tell she was low.

"Use Water Pulse in a circle!" Kalei strategized

Typhlosion was knocked out, you knew you should've used Gyro Ball at the start to get Vaporeon lower.

"Good job, but how would Vaporeon do now? Go Talonflame!" You said

You sent out Talonflame.

"Flame!" Talonflame cawed

"Use Brave Bird!" You exclaimed

Talonflame used the move and Vaporeon quickly fainted, Kalei would be learning to not use Water Types against you.

"Crawdaunt! Come out!" Kalei smiled

His Crawdaunt clamped down its claws and looked at his opponent.

"Use Clawhammer!" Kalei ordered

You stretched as Talonflame dodged the attack, something land bound wasn't the best with something that could freely move in the air.

"Steel Wing!" You grinned

Talonflame got a hit on Crawdaunt but was caught when Crawdaunt was making an exit to get back up into the air.

"Now use Night Slash!" Kalei shouted

Talonflame got a direct hit on him.

"Use Acrobatics!" You yelled

Talonflame dealt damage to Crawdaunt which made him let go, Talonflame made his exit and cawed victoriously.

"Use Bubble Beam!" Kalei ordered

"Dodge it!" You called

Talonflame did as asked and avoided the attack sent out by Crawdaunt, Talonflame was a skilled flier and dodging wasn't anything new.

"Good job! Aerial Ace!" You cheered

Talonflame used the move and Crawdaunt fainted, Kalei was stressed. Talonflame took down two Pokémon of his.

"Go Blastoise!" Kalei spoke

"Blastoise!" Blastoise said

Without command the Blastoise sent out Bubble Beam on Talonflame and since it was uncalled for Talonflame took the hit.

"Nice plan. Use Brave Bird!" You congratulated

Blastoise was too slow the dodge meaning he had received a direct hit, not much damage was done but Blastoise definitely was hurt.

"Now use Rapid Spin!" Kalei seemed to be concerned with every move he called

Blastoise hit Talonflame which sent him flying back.

"Talonflame!" You exclaimed

"Use Aqua Smash!" Kalei gained confidence

Talonflame dropped in the ground and Blastoise hopped back to his trainer and roared in victory, not so fast.

"How would you do against Volcarona?" You asked

Sending out Volcarona meant the battle field really was about to get hot and fiery, Volcarona had a habit of turning up the heat.

"Use Flare Blitz!" You smiled

Volcarona used the move on Blastoise which sent him flying back, Kalei immediately lost his confidence upon seeing the strength Volcarona possessed.

"Okay Blastoise! Use Flash Cannon!" Kalei called

"Quiver Dance, quickly!" You said

Volcarona dodged it right after using Quiver Dance.

"Use Rapid Spin!" Kalei strategized

He was using the same moves he did with Talonflame to knock Volcarona out of the sky, that wasn't going to work.

"Fiery Dance!" You pointed at Blastoise

Volcarona used the move and Blastoise was knocked back and seemed to temporarily be on the ground, Volcarona fluttered over so that she could produce a stronger Heat Wave.

"Use a series of Aqua Tail!" Kalei grinned

Blastoise got up and seemed to have sent Volcarona back whilst hitting her multiple times, Volcarona dropped so you returned her.

"I might be on my last Pokémon but I wouldn't underestimate my next one. Houndoom! Battle with me!" You warned

"Houndoom!" Houndoom barked

He stared at Blastoise who was standing on his two feet, Houndoom could take Blastoise but the next Pokémon was unknown to you.

"Okay bud, use Inferno!" You said

Houndoom hit Blastoise in the stomach.

"Use Aqua Tail to get Houndoom pinned!" Kalei thought using that would work

Houndoom got pinned on purpose but the crowd thought differently.

"Forgetting something? Fire Fang on Blastoise's tail!" You called

Blastoise whined and jumped back giving Houndoom enough time to get up, Kalei seemed to have underestimated Houndoom's strength. 

"Use Rapid Spin!" Kalei shouted

He was getting desperate.

"Nasty Plot and then Ember!" You exclaimed

Blastoise was hit directly and he fainted, Kalei returned him and then sent out a Drednaw. You knew exactly what he was going to do.

"Jaw lock!" Kalei yelled

"Counter it using Bite!" You reacted

The two both took damage so they hopped back, Drednaw more than Houndoom.

"Now use Liquidation!" Kalei ordered

Drednaw used the move on Houndoom, Houndoom dodged it before Drednaw was sent back into its Poke Ball.

It began to grow larger and change colours, out came a Gigantamax Drednaw. No worries.

"Already? Well then, predicted. Houndoom, Mega Evolve!" You yelled

Houndoom did so and became taller and looking more armoured, Kalei grinned. He most likely thought his Drednaw would win due to Gigantamax.

"Use G-max Foamburst!" Kalei yelled

"Drednaw..." Drednaw replied

The Pokémon did as asked and Houndoom came out unscarred, the look on Kalei's face was priceless. Worse than worry.

"Use Flame Charge!" You ordered

Houndoom used the move and it sent Drednaw back, Gigantamax did not matter any longer to Kalei. It was winning.

"Now use G-max Stonesurge!" Kalei strategized

"Bad idea to be using a move like that so soon. Dodge it and then use Nasty Plot! Then use Inferno!" You advised

Houndoom dodged and his stats were raised right after, he then used Inferno to hit Drednaw head on. The Pokémon was knocked out and landed on its back.

Kalei had a sad yet determined look on his face.

Houndoom went back to normal and trotted up to Drednaw and Kalei, Kalei was holding Drednaw in his arms.

Houndoom bowed to the both of them which put a smile on Kalei's face.

"Good job Kalei! Maybe next time, your other Pokémon might be good against me too! It isn't all about weaknesses." You shared

Houndoom barked and Kalei nodded.
