Doubt, mistrustfulness, hesitation are the seeds for chaos as they found a slippery way to unbalance the notion of hope. They are the soft dark whispers of the fear resting in the hearts of the most valiant men. Poisonous thoughts can lead to the end of the deadly path of fear and your arrival had caused some trouble in the human minds.

To expose your true identity as the Wild Sentinel, a living legend of the dragon myth definitely darkened the roots of fear which were already clawing in the Avengers' hopefulness.

The Heroes of Earth, the proud jewel of humanity, were the only shield protecting the Earth from Thanos mass murder plan.

However, this alliance wasn't going to be easy as you could already perceive some sparks of defiance in their behaviours, especially in Stark's demeanour.

As in all things, there is its opposite, you could also sense flickers of pure enthrallment from few Avengers like Peter who was looking at you with an adoration air plastered on his face.

« She may be thousand years old but how can we trust her, Stephen? » Tony's deep voice echoed in the Avengers room, voicing out the doubts of the team.

You tilted your head to the side, your hair covering your shoulder and said adamantly :

« I am not your enemy. »

The survivor of a terrorist attack locked eyes with yours, determination tangled with fear stated:

« Prove it. »

Such simple words with so many expectations, with pressure in its meaning. It could destroy any feeble temper.

« Ask me whatever you want, Stark. I'll even let Wanda look for the truth in my mind if you doubt me. »

Wanda raised a suggestive eyebrow at you, clearly surprised to put so much trust in some people you had just met. Leaning against the wall, her dark crimson jacket fitting her perfectly, you locked eyes with her a second, conveying your honesty in one look.

« You and I want to stop Thanos. At all cost. I understand your hesitation but if you're willing to give me a chance to prove to you I won't let you down. So, each one of you is going to ask me one question and I'll answer. Deal? »

Steve, as impartial as he is, nodded his head, probably finding the terms of the deal worthy. As the Captain of the team, even if Tony would never say it aloud, Steve Rogers started the interrogation:

« Why did you stay hidden all these years? »

The righteous tone made you take a deep breath.

« The human world wasn't ready for me to come out. Today, thanks to people like you, » you pointed out the team, « a dragon would be a lesser surprise than an alien who wanted to kill half of the universe »

Wanda cleared her throat, eyeing you carefully.

« And I feared the hunt. When humans don't understand something or find you're the thing they discover is more powerful than them, they kill and destroy. I am the last of my race, I can not die because of a hunt. I'd rather die for the home I live in for thousand years than in a casual hunt. Besides, humans can't kill me. Their weapons couldn't pierce my armour. »

T'Challa asked, his thick accent rolling the "r" while he eyed you carefully:

« Even vibranium? »

You bowed your head at the king:

« Even vibranium. »

Steve nodded at you.

« Thank you Y/N. »

Stark stepped forward, a drink of alcohol dangerously getting low.

« What can kill you, Y/N? »

His question was welcomed with gasps from Peter and frowns from the others. But hey, it was typical of Stark to ask questions nobody wanted to ask.

« Magic. If a death spell comes in contact with me or is powerful enough, it can kill me. Strange couldn't.... yet. Perhaps your brother Loki could Thor.  I haven't found any weapon able to pierce my scale. And no Clint, a Black Arrow wouldn't work. »

The blonde god nodded his head at you, deep in thoughts. His muscled arms crossed against his chest, showing off his Asgardian armour, he stroke his beard while pondering.

« Are you the Undaunted Dragon my brother encountered centuries ago? »

A light smirk played on your lips, the memory coming back to your mind while Wanda flinched at the flash of memories. Vision glanced at the woman and came to her side, watching her with a protecting love gaze. A gaze you had known a long time ago and was now gone, leaving nothing more than a scar on your vital matrix.

« That is one of the names I bear and yes, I saved Loki from a fatal death. »

« Thank you, Lady Y/N. »

Natasha made a step forward, eyeing your body with an acute eye, her blue eyes never leaving your form until she asked:

« Have you ever fell for a man before? »

« Sentimental, aren't we, Romanoff? » snickered Stark.

You took your time to answer the question, the face of a man popping in your head which you quickly pushed away, the old wound of your heart opening slightly.

« Yes, a very long time ago. »

Vision stepped forward, curiosity written all over his face. The Infinity Stone in his skull shone brightly as his eyes fluttered closed while information poured his brain of endless variables of possibility. His red eyes combined with a yellowish amber colour connected with yours, the illumination of the final question glowing in his pupils.

« Will you protect this stone at all cost? »

Wanda blinked, shock filling her hazel eyes while a spark of scarlet glistening in her orbs.

« Did you just ask a dragon for protection? »

You nodded your head at the android.

« I won't let Thanos get his hand on the Mind Stone if that's your concern, Vision. I promise. »

Peter raised his hand up, as he was the student and you were the teacher. You smiled brightly at him, admiring his face for a moment before nodding your head.

« Can I ride you, please? »

You tilted your head to the side.

« Aren't the women supposed to ride men? »

Tony burst out laughing, nervosity spreading out through his laughter while Natasha rolled her eyes and Steve looked confused by the situation. Sam leaned and whispered in his ear the true meaning of your answer which made the Captain blushed fifty shade of red.

The poor Peter was in the same state, realising the sexual innuendo of his query and he rephrased his question. The blush on his cheeks, highlighting his square jaw was enticing and your eyes sparkled with amusement for a while.

« I... I mean, when you are in your dragon form, would you accept me to ride you? »

A genuine smile reached your lips, and you walked to the young boy.

« Of course, little spider, shall we begin? »

Peter stuttered, a blush covering his already red cheeks.

« Now? »

You nodded, glancing at the sky for a second.

« Yes, it's a perfect day to fly, don't you agree? »

Peter finally composed himself and stated :

« Sure thing, Legendary Partner. »

You chuckled, your soft laugh resonated like a melody to some Avengers' ears. Stark stepped in, activating his Iron Man suit.

« I'm coming too. »

« Alright, any other flying partners coming along? »

Sam slowly stepped in.

« A falcon and a dragon, there is no way I'm missing that! »

You proceeded to exit the compound and reached the enclosure, the very place you had landed a few hours ago. You put your hand on Peter's shoulder, putting him on a halt as you announced:

« I need place to change. Stay back, please. »

You walked to the centre of the space, spun around and faced the three Avengers. Stark was looking smugly and yet with a glint of fascination in his eyes while Sam and Peter impatiently waited for you to turn into a dragon.

You fluttered your eyes closed, listening to your senses, suddenly enhanced by your concentration. The soft stroke of the wind caressing your face, the grass teasing your feet and the rhythm of your heartbeat hammering in your chest. Calm, you let your body changed while a bright light encompassed you, shielding your vulnerable state to any possible enemies. You didn't hear the whispers of awe from your partners, neither the mesmerised gasps of the three men.

Once fully turned, your spread out your crimson wings, testing their flexibility before heading to Peter.

Absolutely enthralled by your beauty, his honey eyes trailing down your scaly body with his mouth slightly wide open, you bent down your head to look at him in the eye. He gulped at how close you were, or rather your sharp fangs while Tony stood behind, taken aback by the creature in front of his eyes.

Crimson scales harder than vibranium, with enlarged sickle-shaped claws and with sharp shards trailing down your back, Peter couldn't help but be in awe at your magnificence.

How could such a dangerous legend be so beautiful? How could the monster from wealthy men be the true treasure of their realm?

To ease his climb, you knelt your paw, gesturing to the boy to go on your back. Peter excitedly jumped on your paw, easily finding a place to seat at the juncture of your neck and shoulders where he grabbed two shards for support. You felt him stroke your scaly skin, his touch gently reminded you of the softness of humans and that once there was a man at the same place as Petey.

« Underoos, stop daydreaming and let's fly! »

The kid immediately straightened his back, his nervosity spreading as you felt him clenched your shards. You turned your head to Peter, locking your reptilian eyes with him and said reassuringly.

« Take it easy, Pete. Relax and enjoy the ride. Just hold tight for the launch. Ready? »

Peter's face contorted from nervous to happy as realisation hit him like a truck

« I'm riding a dragon » he muttered and before he had time to comprehend what was going on, you spread out your wings, revealing the intricate patterns of your skin and jumped in the air.

The Falcon and Iron Man soon followed you as you gradually flew higher and higher, flying at each side of you. You couldn't see Peter's face but according to his laughs of pleasure, he was genuinely having the time of his life.

« Look, that's Queens, it's so small from here! »

He babbled a lot of things while raising his hands in the air to enjoy the wind encountering his body in its wild environment.

Flying was a form of breathing, a rhythm to acquire to avoid falling like Icarus flying too close to the sun.

Flapping your wings to gain altitude, you found the perfect current to fly onto, letting your wings spread out in all their glories while Peter was bewitched by the extraordinary experience he was living. He even screamed his marvels at the sky, while Sam rolled his eyes, clearly amused by the kid's behaviour.

Flying in sync, you enjoyed the softness of the wind tickling your wings, your muscles tensing at each flap while you kept the most perfect balance, piercing through the clouds.

« Mister Stark, look I'm eating a fluffy cloud! »

« You can't eat a cloud, kid »

To fly was one of your favourite activity where you could enjoy the peacefulness of this eerie environment, breaking through clouds, peering at the sun and even attempt to reach it but you knew you had to land after a while.

Gradually you flew down, circling around New York, heading down to the ground until you decided to do a stoop. You brought down your wings closer to your body, gravity slowly taking its rightful place and nosedive to the floor while Peter clung at you for dear life. Tony and Sam immediately followed you, until you suddenly spread out your wings, slowing down your fall in complete control.

« That was fun » you stated while glancing at Peter who wrapped his arms around your neck, trembling a bit from the sudden dive.

Landing carefully on the Avengers compound, the hero of Queen slipped down your body, his legs shaking a bit before you changed back into your human form. You didn't have any time to react as you were tackled by the teenager into a bone-crushing hug. He definitely had strength for a spider.

« Thank you, Khaleesi »

You chuckled at the nickname, ruffling his hair while Tony and Sam joined you both on the ground.

« That was one hell of a dive! How fast can you go? »

You smirked.

« Very fast. »

A few minutes later, and Peter was still hugging you, listening to your steady heartbeat until he said :

« Is it normal your heart beat faster than normal? »

You nodded your head :

« Probably. Will you let go of me? I haven't been so close to people for a while. I need time... and more of your hugs. »

A bright smile enlightened the boy's lips, his dishevelled brown hair poking out on his head.

« Anytime, Mrs Y/N. »

Tony's voice echoed in the area, calling the kid from the compound;

« Spiderboy! »

Peter grunted and unwrapped his arms from you, letting you go and he said:

« Thank you, Y/N. It was awesome. »

Then he hurried to Tony who looked at you with the birth of a smile on his tanned skin, probably accepting you for you were.

You chuckled, saying to yourself:

« I could tell, little dragon rider. »

As you headed back to the Avengers quarters, you realised that perhaps you had found a family.

A/N: So what did you think. Lucky Peter, isn't it?
