season 1, episode 2 pt.1

"How could you miss a dead body?" Wednesday asks Sheriff Galpin. Charlotte just stayed silent walking next to Weems. She didn't want to talk about the event that was engraved in her brain. She just wanted to sleep.

She awoke the morning after to her twin brother next to her bed with a tear-stained face. She received a bone crushing hug from him the moment he realized she was awake. Riley was also there. Except, she was full on bawling. They both thought that Charlotte wouldn't wake up even though the doctors told them that she would be fine she just had a slight concussion and needed stitches on her scalp.

"Cause it wasn't there. No footprints, no blood, no sign of struggle. Nothing, nada. My search party looked all night" Sheriff said.

"Well your search party must have left their seeing-eye dogs at home. I saw that monster kill Rowan right in front of me. So did Charlotte" Wednesday says. Sheriff Galpin looks back at Charlotte a teenager he was quite familiar with. The man felt some sort of pity for her because this is the only time he's seen her where she's not smiling.

"Did you get a good look at this monster thing?" Sheriff asks turning back to Wednesday.

"It didn't stick around for a chat" Wednesday snaps back.

"Maybe, it was one of your classmates" Sheriff suggests.

Weems quickly turns around to face the Sheriff. "Sheriff I find that question offensive."

"I don't care cause I got three other dead bodies in the morgue. Hikers just ripped apart" Charlotte flinched at the last part, the picture from last night invading her brain again.

"The mayor said those were bear attacks" Weems counters.

"Well, the mayor and I disagree on that" Sheriff says.

"So you automatically assume a Nevermore student is the murderer, even though there's no evidence a crime was even committed" Weems says sternly.

"I'm sorry. I forgot you only teach the good outcasts here, right?" Sheriff says. Weems sighs and they continue up to her office.

As they walk into the office Weems starts talking again, "My guess is Rowan ran away. State troopers have put out an alert, and I've contacted his family, but they haven't heard from him either" Weems says. Charlotte wanted to cry. A family lost one of their members last night. And she watched it happen.

"Dead people are notoriously bad at returning calls" Wednesday says.

"What were you doing out in the woods with him, Ms. Addams?" Sheriff questions.

"I heard a noise in the forest and went to investigate" Wednesday smoothly lies. "That's when I stumbled upon the attack" Sheriff turned to Charlotte. She gulped. "I saw Wednesday going out to the woods during the fireworks and wanted to see if she was alright. When I saw the attack I passed out and hit my head" Charlotte says as smoothly as she can.

"Then what happened?" Sheriff asks.

"I carried Charlotte out of the woods and ran into Bianca Barclay, and I told her to get help. Next thing I remember, I was awaking in my dorm" Wednesday says.

"And just to be clear this monster wasn't a bear or some other wild animal?" Sheriff asks.

"I've hibernated with grizzlies. I know the difference" Wednesday says while Charlotte rapidly shakes her head no. The shaking caused her to have a bad headache.

"Thank you, Sheriff. I think Miss Addams and Miss Thorpe are done now" Weems says.

"Actually I would like to speak with Sheriff Galpin. Alone." Wednesday says before turning to Charlotte. "Charlotte should rest. She still has a concussion" Charlotte smiles appreciatively at the girl before bidding the Sheriff goodbye and going to her dorm.

Charlotte was painting on Ophelia Halls canoe for the Poe Cup. Enid was over on the other side talking to Yoko and another vampire.  Charlotte was feeling much better after being able to just chill for a few hours. Her headache was gone and there was a small smile stained to her face.

"If Bianca Barclay wins again this year, I will literally scratch my own eyes out!" Enid yells causing Charlotte to let a small giggle pass her lips. She wasn't a very competitive person so she found this funny.

"I would pay money to see that" Wednesday says from behind Enid. Charlotte makes her way over to the two girls.

"Howdy, roomie! I'm so glad you decided to stay." Enid says.

"i thought you wanted your single room back" Wednesday says.

"Full disclosure, I don't like living solo, and Thing gives a killer neck massage. It's a win-win" Enid explains. "So... why the change of heart?" Enid asks.

"I refuse to play the role of a pawn in someone else's  corrupt game" Wednesday says. Charlotte sighs knowing exactly who she was talking about.

"You mean Rowan?" Enid asks.

"Me and Charlotte witnessed his murder, Enid" Wednesday says. Charlotte nods. "It was scary and gruesome" She adds on.

"It's just, we all saw him this morning. Very much, like, not dead" Enid says.

"I know" Wednesday responds. "Which leads me to believe I've been losing my mind" Charlotte's eyes grew big at her statement. "It's not nearly as fun as I'd anticipated" Wednesday finishes. Charlotte shook her head.

"If you're losing your mind, then so am I. That just doesn't make sense"  Charlotte said. Wednesday looks at her and nods.

"You're Nevermore's gossip queen. What's Rowan's story?" Wednesday asks Enid.

"Other than being a weird loner... uh..." She looks at Wednesday. "No offense"

"None taken" Wednesday says.

"Xavier Thorpe's roommate. If you had a cell phone, you could just text him and ask him" She tells Wednesday. Charlotte goes back to painting as Enid says something to Yoko.

Charlotte was in her dorm reading a book. She sets it down and hovers her hand over it. Two people in a garden appear just above the page. The scene plays out just as the book describes it. She softly smiles as the boy kisses the girl. She wishes it could be as simple as in the books, but in reality feelings are confusing.

The slam of her dorm door caused the girl to lose focus and the words to melt back into the page. Riley walked in with an unreadable expression on her face. Charlotte's soft smile quickly turned into a look of concern.

"Are you alright?" She asks from her bed. Riley turns to her and just glares. The redhead plops on her bed and hides her face in her pillows.

Charlotte walks over to her and gently sits on her bed.

"Ri, talk to me" She softly says. Riley turns to her and lets out a frustrated sigh.

"Am I unlikeable?" She asks. Charlotte furrows her eyebrows.

"What do you mean? Of course not" She comforts, but her words were 100% true. "Why would you even think that?" Charlotte asks her best friend.

"Wednesday hasn't said one word to me. I've tried to talk to her so many times. After fencing, when I ran into her at Therapy, the harvest festival. She always ignores me. Am I doing something wrong? Do I look funny? Do I have an rbf? Is my voice annoying?" Charlotte cuts off Riley's rant.

"Ri, you are beautiful and no, to all of those questions. If you want I can talk to her about it. I can't promise anything though, because she doesn't seem like one to express her emotions" Charlotte says. Riley nods and hugs Charlotte. They sit there for a minute, both enjoying the comforting hug.

Charlotte walked into Mrs. Thornhills classroom with her usual smile.

"I see you finally made a friend. Even if it is a plant" The girl hears Bianca say and her smile is replaced with a frown for a split second. She sighs and goes to sit in her normal spot next to Xavier, but stops when she sees Wednesday there. Xavier just looks at her with raised eyebrows. Her eyes scan the room for an empty spot. The only one she could see was next to Ajax.

She walked over there trying to be as calm as she could. Ajax sent her a small smile as she sat down next to him. She offered him a tight lipped smile back. She put her elbow on the table and rested her head against it waiting for class to begin.

Ajax watched the brunette girl from the corner of his eye. Catching the slight purse her lips made and her troubled expression. He wanted to know what was going through her head. He wanted to understand her troubles and kiss them away. He was a love sick teenage boy who was horrible at hiding it and too awkward for his own good.

Charlotte watched from across the classroom as her twin used his abilities to make a spider crawl from his sketchbook. She rolled her eyes and had a humorous grin on her face, as she knew he was trying to impress the girl next to him.

"I doubt Wednesday is impressed by your tricks, Mr. Thorpe" Mrs. Thornhill says while adjusting her glasses on her face.

"Admit it you're a little impressed" Xavier says to the Addams girl.

Wednesday studies the spider for a moment. She then brings her hand up and slams it down crushing the spider. Everyone laughs and Charlotte can't help the giggle that falls from her lips. Ajax catches it and smiles even bigger.

"Wednesday, we're thrilled to have you join us on our journey into the world of carnivorous plants" Mrs. Thornhill greets. "Now... who can tell us the name of this beauty?" She asks.

Bianca had her hand raised, but Wednesday answers before she even has a chance.

"Dendrophylax lindenii" She answers. Charlotte's eyebrows raise as she was impressed.

"Otherwise known as the Ghost Orchid" Bianca continues.

"First discovered on the Isle of Wight in 1854" Wednesday finishes.

Charlotte's face shows pure confusion. She was never good at Mrs. Thornhill's class and was barely passing. She felt internally embarrassed that a new student already knew more than her.

"Very good, Wednesday" Mrs. Thornhill praises. "Looks like you may have competition for first chair, Bianca" She tells the siren before turning back to Wednesday. "Wednesday, perhaps you can identify the ghost orchid's greatest qualities"

"Resilience and adaptability" Wednesday answers immediately. "It's able to thrive in even the most hostile environments"

"But its mere presence can change the ecosystem, causing the established plants to reject it" Bianca says back.

"Do you have any idea what the cat fight is about?" Charlotte hears Ajax whisper from behind her. She doesn't take her eyes off the two girls before answering. "I think someone's jealous and the other is just her" She answers.

"Usually because the native species is allowed to thrive unchecked. Nothing a weedwacker wouldn't fix" Charlotte's eyes widened at Wednesday's statement. Oh shit.

"You can most certainly try" Bianca answers back.

"Are we still talking about flowers?" Xavier asks causing most of the class to laugh. Charlotte just stared at Wednesday and Bianca. This is going to be a petty rivalry. She thought.

Charlotte zoned out the rest of class. Thinking about Rowan. The event couldn't leave her mind. Her dreams have turned into nightmares, which turned into her writing to get her feelings out.

A hand softly touches her shoulder causing her to flinch away. She looked over to see Ajax with a worried expression on his face.

"Are you okay, Char?" He asks in one of the most gentle tones Charlotte had ever heard him use. The nickname she hadn't heard from his mouth in 7 months filling her mind and taking it off of Rowan and the monster that stalked the woods.

She sighed and softly nodded. Ajax frowned. He wanted her to share what was wrong, but she wasn't his and it wasn't any of his business.

"You sure?" He pressed a little bit. Charlotte was in fact not fine. She was feeling tingles in her chest and felt like she might throw up due to the amount of butterflies in her stomach. She mustered up a small smile. "I just need a minute" She answered him.

She turned to put her stuff away. Ajax opened his mouth to say something else, but closed it a second after. He stood there for a second, before he pursed his lips together and walked out.

a/n: I'm trying to have more Ajax and Charlotte moments in each chapter and incorporate both of their feelings in. Hope you enjoyed it :)
