Season 1 Episode 11: Blood Calls To Blood
Jace turned to face the girl's tears in his eyes. "He's my father."
Khloe's jaw almost dropped as she stared at the man who was looking up at Jace and back to Jace looking at Clary.
The man, who was supposedly Jace's father slowly pulled himself up from the ground and stood tall.
"Dad?" Jace said one last time before pulling him into a hug.
Khloe and Clary looked at each other, unsure of the man in front of them.
"You're hurt! How did you get here?" The man asked.
"You're dead. Valentine killed you." Jace whispered still not believing that his father was here. "Valentine's... Valentine's here."
"No Jace, it's me." The man said grabbing a hold of Jace's face and making him look into his eyes.
Jace's father looked at the two sisters who both looked very confused before saying, "I'm Micheal Wayland. I'm Jace's father. Look I know what Jace told you but I've been here for ten years. Valentine took off and left me."
"And Jocelyn Fairchild?" Clary asked.
"He took her with him," Micheal replied. "And you two are?"
"I'm Clary, her daughter--"
"And I'm Khloe, but it's fine you can forget about me everyone else does." Khloe cut her sister off.
"Meliorn the Seelie told me that he was here with her," Clary told Micheal causing Khloe to sigh.
Clary had just given Meliorn's name to an oddly suspicious man who showed up out of nowhere with quite a lot of knowledge considering he had been locked up for ten years.
Jace stumbled and Michael and Clary raced to catch him.
"His stele where is it?" Michael asked patting his jacket pocket looking for it.
"Back pocket!" Clary replied while struggling to help Jace stand. Khloe cautiously stepped towards Jace not fully trusting Jace's father.
Khloe held Jace up with Clary lifted his shirt and Michael ran his stele over the rune. Michael groaned.
"What's wrong?" Clary asked panicking.
"The rune is too weak." He replied.
"The Ravener Venom is spreading." Khloe sighed. "We have to get him help."
"The portal closed!" Clary cried.
"Valentine's got a standing portal," Michael replied securing Jaces arm around his shoulder. Khloe wrapped Jace's arm around her shoulder as best she could, ignoring the fact that Michael seemed to know a lot for someone who had been locked up for ten years.
"Let's go."
Khloe helped Michael drag Jace in the direction of the portal while Clary trailed behind not knowing what to do exactly.
"Hey, Jace, stay with me. Hey" Michael spoke to Jace. "Do you remember our first demon fight? We were way out past the institute, way up at Kinshasa. You were only eight, but you were so brave."
Jace watched Michael as he spoke and Khloe couldn't help but watch the two interact as she kept walking to where ever Michael was taking them.
"Do you remember what you said?" Michael asked.
"I'm ready to die." Jace quoted his younger self while watching his dad with tears in his eyes.
"And then I said 'sometimes it's as brave to live, as it is to die'," Michael placed his hand on Jace's chest. "Do you remember?"
"I do," Jace replied breathing heavily, "It's true. It's you."
Jace may have been convinced but Khloe certainly wasn't. She wasn't going to question the man in front of Jace but she was definitely going to question him sometime soon.
"Let's go," Michael said as he led them to the portal.
"Wait, where are we going to go?" Khloe asked continuing to pull Jace's body weight towards the portal.
"The institute?" Clary said obviously.
"No, you idiot, we can't go there, remember." Khloe rolled her eyes not stating why not wanting to spill their secrets to a stranger under Khloe's suspicion.
"Oh, right," Clary replied.
"Jade Wolf?" Khloe suggested.
Clary thought for a moment. "It will have to do for now."

Once they had reached the portal they pushed through the entrance of Jade Wolf rushing into the restaurant calling out for help hoping that Luke or a trusty werewolf was around. Luckily Luke was already at the Jade wolf with none other than Simon.
Simon stayed in the shadows of the restaurant watching as the girls and Michael placed Jace on the nearest seat.
"Girls? What happened?" Simon called from the shadows.
"Michael Wayland?" Luke asked in disbelief.
"Valentine took my mother with him. But we found Jace's father." Clary said.
"Our mother." Khloe hissed after an eye roll.
"What? I thought Valentine killed Jace's father?" Simon asked.
"He tried," Michael replied looking up from Jace and over to Simon.
Luke walked closer to the four shadowhunters and kneeled analyzing Michael's face.
"Hello, Lucian," Michael said.
"This can't be." Luke stammered, "I thought I'd never see you again."
"I never thought I'd see anyone again."
"What happened?" Luke asked looking away from Michael over to Khloe who was a lot more stable then Clary, who was practically crying over Jace.
"A demon got him, he can't fight the poison. His runes are too weak and he needs blood but we can't go to the institute."
Khloe looked back at Simon who was still watching the Shadowhunters and werewolf. Suddenly an idea popped into her head. Khloe pulled herself up from her kneeling position by Jace and walked over to Simon.
"Do you think we can go to the Hotel DuMort? We could call Raphael or Grace, right?"
"Calling won't work. We have to do this in person. My van is in the garage, you drive and I'll hide under a blanket and stay out of the sun, and there's underground parking at the hotel." Simon said.
"I'm not going," Khloe replied. "Clary is going."
"What? It won't work if you're not there." Simon said.
"Simon we don't need here, let's go." Clary stood up wiping her tears and walking towards the garage.
"Clary. We're not going without her. If we go there without her we don't get what we want." Simon told Clary turning to Khloe.
"I don't want to go," Khloe told Simon as soon as he finished talking.
It was obvious why the strawberry blond didn't want to go. She still wasn't in the best place with her ex-best-friend-turned-vampire.
"Well too bad you made the deal," Simon told Khloe pulling her out towards the garage despite her aggressive protests.
Clary had followed the two sitting in the passenger seat as Khloe drove towards the Hotel DuMort debating driving the car into a wall or a lake, anything to avoid going to see the vampire. She knew there was no avoiding this.
No matter what deal Khloe and Grace agreed on, Khloe would never forget what Grace did to her and the way she made her feel and no matter how overdramatic Khloe seemed, it still hurt. But bigger things were happening, Jace was dying. So she was forced to deal with this feeling.
Once Khloe had pulled into the underground carpark she was instructed by Simon to message Grace.
Khloe heaved a heavy sigh and pulled out her phone typing a message to Grace.
In a minute Grace had entered the underground carpark and her eyes fell on to Khloe and something passed through her eyes as she watched Simon and Clary step out of the car. No one else seemed to notice the look that Grace gave them but Khloe, but she decided not to question it.
"What do you need?" Grace asked Khloe.
"Blood!" Clary rushed over to Grace but Simon pulled her back to his side most likely fearing that Grace would hurt Clary.
"I wasn't asking you," Grace told Clary before turning to face Khloe. "What do you need?"
"Jace is dying, we need blood, I'll explain later?" Khloe asked.
Grace bit her lip in thought looking at Clary and Simon who both looked at the older vampire with desperate eyes. Grace rolled her eyes nodding, "Follow,"
Clary rushed forward with Simon and Khloe trailed behind.
"Don't fall over," Khloe rolled her eyes warning her sister who scrambled after Grace.
Grace led the group to the top floor telling Clary and Simon to wait while she and Khloe went to look for Raphael.
"So why did I have to find Raphael with you and not wait with my sister and her boy toy?" Khloe asked Grace as she stopped in a room.
The room, like every other room on the top floor of the hotel, was decorated to perfection with various items which indicated the wealth of the vampire.
"Because Raphael already knows you're all here." Grace turned to face the strawberry blond who had frowned at her words.
"Then why--" Khloe's face dropped as realization washed over her. "You're joking right."
"We need to talk Khloe, you still hate me even after we made our deal," Grace spoke as if that deal to save Meliorn saved her too.
"Yes! Because that deal saved an innocent life!" Khloe replied walking towards the entrance back to where she had left Clary and Simon. "I don't have time for this Grace."
"So what? You're justing going to hate me forever?" Grace yelled out to the strawberry blond.
Khloe sighed feeling the anger in her vein spilling over causing her to spin on her heel to face Grace once again. Khloe began taking small strides towards the vampire as she yelled back.
"I am going to hate you, for as long as I want, do you want to know why?" Grace swallowed thickly slowly backing away from Khloe in fear. Grace had never seen Khloe this angry, Khloe had never been mad at Grace.
"Because no deal, no stele, no fangs will ever make me forget those two years of my life where I lived without you. I cannot forget all of that because you asked me to." Khloe yelled backing Grace up to the wall leaving on a meters distance.
"But I-I'm here now?" Grace offered and as Khloe looked into her eyes, she saw tears.
"I don't even know you anymore." Khloe looked the vampire up and down despite Khloe being the shorter of the two she was not intimidated, not anymore. "I hate you, stop trying to change that."
A tear rolled down Grace's cheek as she nodded and looked down at the ground avoiding eye contact with Khloe.
"Good, now I have more important business, like saving my friend." Khloe hissed taking a final glance at the vampire before returning to find Clary and Simon.
Once Khloe had found her sister who held two bags of blood, she explained that Simon had to stay behind with Raphael because 'he liked the way he handled the deal'. Khloe didn't linger on the thought for much longer before moving on and driving back to the Jade wolf hoping she wasn't too late to save Jace.
Once the two shadowhunters arrived at the Jade wolf they immediately began the transfusion.
Khloe and Clary sat on the tables of the Jade Wolf awaiting any news on Jace's condition.
"So how did Simon handle the deal?" Khloe asked her sister who was bouncing her leg in attempts to keep her mind off Jace.
"W-What?" Clary asked looking up at her older sister.
"Well if Raphael made him stay I assume he did something pretty awesome and Simon-like," Khloe replied a small smile tugging at her lips as she reached across the table to grab her sister's hand.
Clary noticed what she was doing and a small smile began tugging at her lips also. "Uh, blackmail."
"Blackmail?" Khloe raised her eyebrows in surprise. "Didn't think either of you had it in you."
Clary laughed lightly, "You haven't changed at all."
"You'd be surprised." Khloe looked down at her hands which were playing around with her sisters still.
"What did you and Grace talk about?"
"Oh, you know screaming, yelling, I told her I hated her, nothing new." Khloe sighed regretting being so harsh.
"I understand you're mad, and god knows you can hold grudges, and she lied, and I get that, but if I ever lost Simon, my best friend, for two years and he came back, I wouldn't think twice about forgiving him. No matter what he was or what he did."
Khloe sighed. "And that is the difference between you and I?"
Clary frowned at the weight of her sister's words. "What do you mean?"
Khloe swallowed thickly looking around the Jade Wolf to see if anyone was paying attention to their conversation, but it was empty, everyone was either out or helping with Jace's transfusion which had been forgotten by the two girls.
"There is something I never told you." Khloe took a deep breath mentally preparing herself for the conversation that was to come.
She mindlessly played around with her hands a little more as she watched her sisters reaction very carefully.
Telling Alec that she and Grace were together was a lot easier than it was to tell Clary. The nerves resting in the bottom of Khloe's stomach were unmistakable yet indescribable.
Because the hardest part about being gay is coming out to family or someone that means the world to you. No straight person would ever understand the fear Khloe felt at that moment as her stomach began eating itself causing Khloeto bite down on her lip.
words cannot describe the emotion that runs through Khloe as she finally lets the words slip from her mouth.
"She was my girlfriend, and I loved her," Khloe whispered loud enough for her sister to hear. Khloe tensed up when Clary pulled her hand away from Khloe's and her breath hitched.
In a panic, Khloe began to rush out words. "She promised she would never leave me and she did. That is why I can't forgive her so fast, and I don't expect you to understand but--"
Khloe silenced herself when Clary slid over to Khloe side of the booth and wrapped her arms around her.
"Khloe," Clary whispered to her sister. "How long have you known?"
Khloe swallowed thickly half-heartedly wrapping her arms around her sister thinking about the question slowly calming herself. "Four, maybe five years of definite."
"Five years!" Clary cried hugging her sister tighter. "And you didn't tell me! You kept it to yourself for that long! Why did you not tell me, or mom? Does mom know?"
Khloe took deep breaths to keep herself from shedding any tears, "No one outside of Max, Jordan, Grace, and Alec know. You do too now I suppose." Khloe pausing pulling her sister, who still hadn't let go, closer and relaxing before continuing. "I was so scared you'd think different of me."
"I didn't think you were scared of anything," Clary replied.
"This kind of thing scares me more than anything. It's different to everything else and I can't describe it, there is no way to correctly describe what goes through my mind when I do this kind of stuff."
"And that's okay. I might not understand how you feel but I know I love you no matter what. The same way you love me no matter what." Clary sniffled lightly showing that she was crying.
"Unfortunately," Khloe mumbled trying to lighten the mood and push Clary away.
"Nope. I know your defense mechanism is to insult me until I leave you but this time it won't work!" Clary smiled hugging her tighter.
Khloe smiled lightly rolling her eyes finally her breathing returned to a normal rate and the two girls just sat there together and keeping their minds away from their worries.
After about an hour Jace's father walked out into the restaurant and over to the girls.
The twins stood from the seats and watched Micahel. "Jace is okay. He'll probably want to see you both." The older man smiled gently at the two.
Khloe and Clary shared a look, "Go in without me."
Clary's eyes fell back to Michael before nodding at her sister and walking back into the back room to talk with Jace.
Khloe could still feel Michael's gaze on her, which began to make her slightly uncomfortable.
The two stood in silence as Khloe's eyes didn't leave the doorway that Clary just left through.
"Well, this was nice. I'm leaving." Khloe spoke spinning towards the front entrance of the Jade Wolf avoiding eye contact with the elder Wayland.
"Where are you going?" He asked knowing that she couldn't actually go anywhere.
"Out?" She replied beginning to walk away from Michael who had taken a seat at a different table the one Khloe and Clary had been previously seated at.
"but, uh, can I, um, talk to you for a minute first?" He asked stopping the strawberry blond before she could make her great escape.
Heaving out a silent breath of displeasure Khloe span back to face the older man, who honestly creeped her out, and walked back over to the table he was sitting at.
She stood at the end of the table looking down at the man's kind smile and blue eyes. this man definitely looked like Jace, like blue eyes and blond hair were unmistakable, but it didn't feel right.
He seemed suspicious to Khloe, after all, Jace had said he saw his father die, so who was this man really? Instead of flat-out asking, Khloe waited for him to speak.
with a sigh, Michael looked away from the girl and at the table. "I'm sorry, I just feel like I know you," Michael spoke causing the younger shadowhunter to raise a brow. "It's just, you're so much like your mother."
Khloe pursed her red colored lips, still rather disappointed that she and Clary did not find their mother, but instead an oddly suspicious Michael Wayland.
"I've been told." She replied crossing her arms.
"You don't seem to be afraid and you definitely look like you don't do what you're told, you've got a mind of your own right? Stubborn, perhaps?" He gestured to the seat in front of him offering Khloe a seat if she wanted.
Khloe shook her head politely declining his offer preferring to stand and watch him from a safe distance. "You're not wrong, I don't listen even when I should, even if it's for my own good."
Michael nodded in understanding, "Maybe that's a good thing though. It served Jocelyn well." He paused for a moment looking back up at the strawberry blond, and as their eyes connected Khloe watched carefully as he continued, "She hid you from Valentine long enough for you to grow without him tainting your mind."
Khloe uncrossed her arms and leaned against the table. "Yes and she also hid the shadow world from us until the day of our eighteenth birthday, when she went missing leaving us defenseless and weak. I know she thinks she was protecting us but this would have been so much easier if she had just told us."
"All she ever wants is to protect you two. I knew she was carrying the two of you when she fled from Valentine. But I never told him no matter how much he tormented me." Michael told Khloe.
Khloe frowned at the man tilting her head slightly. "Valentine thought our mother was dead. Why did he ask about her?" She asked watching his reaction.
"Because he never gave up hope. Would it help if he knew how much he loved her?" Michael asked.
Khloe scoffed, "Loved her? He is not capable of love."
Michael shook his head. "He would have loved you too, you have a fire to you. Children bring out the best in a person." He replied watching Khloe as her forehead creased.
"Or the worst. Who knows what he's done to try to find us. Who know's what he did to you after he found out we were alive. He is a monster, that is all I see, that is all I will ever see." Khloe snapped at Michael, and then she saw it.
She saw everything she needed. With a simple look in the eye and the bend of a brow, she knew. This man was not who he said he was.

Later that night Clary, Luke, and Khloe had gone to scout Renwick's which Michael had
