Alessia's pov
Everything made sense now, but something still felt missing. It was like the last missing puzzle piece.
A yellow light shone beside me again, and surely enough, another door materialised under the light.
"This is the last one," I said, smiling. I didn't know how I knew it, but I just do. Once again, I pushed the key through the perfectly fitting keyhole and twisted it, before an unknown force engulfed me and pulled me into the room.
"Happy 15th birthday Blue!"
Fourteen-year-old me cheered, holding onto a small cupcake.
"Strawberry cupcake, your favourite! I know this isn't much, this is all I could do and afford, but I baked it myself! So you have to like it!"
I chuckled at the memory. How I missed hanging out with Blue back on the Surface.
But I had recalled this memory before.
Why is this still playing in my head?
Out of the sudden, everything went blurry, and it shifted to another scene.
"Happy belated 18th birthday, Eli!"
Seventeen-year-old me screamed at the top of my lungs alongside the rest of the Shane Gang, holding onto a small cake.
"I know this isn't much, I was kinda in a hurry to finish this strawberry cake before you wake up from your well-deserved nap, but I baked it myself! So you have to like it!"
The scene shifted again. This time, to another memory.
"So Ales, how did you know I like strawberry cakes?" Eli asked with some icing on his nose. I had the urge to lick it off of him but surely I stopped myself.
"I didn't know you like strawberry cakes. Strawberry cakes are my specialty, I used to make them very often since my... friend used to love it."
Okay stop shifting scenes I get it but...
What?
What does all this mean?
My mind was clearly trying to tell me something, but I still don't get it. It was as if my mind knew I was still confused, it shook its head disappointingly at me, before showing me a clear vision.
Blue, my long lost true love, appeared on my left.
Eli, my leader and protector of the caverns, appeared on my right.
The heart-shaped necklace materialised in between them.
It clicked. I finally see the connection.
They were the same person all along.
...
My eyes flung open and I inhaled sharply. It was already dark outside, and someone was sleeping on a chair beside my bed, with his head laying on the bed. He jolted when I moved, and he was now wide awake.
"Ales?"
He called for me. I recognised it immediately. I didn't realise how much I longed to hear him call me by my nickname again until now.
Everyone else in the room woke up when Eli said my name. Their eyes widened when they saw me, and I was extremely glad that I can now remember each and everyone of them.
I looked down on my hand. The key necklace was held firmly in my grasp. I stared at it, before slowly pulling out my heart-shaped necklace from under my shirt. I watched closely as I positioned the key at the entrance with trembling hands. It was like time slowed down as I inserted the key into the keyhole.
It fitted perfectly.
My eyes widened and jaws dropped. I released the necklaces and corvered my mouth with my hands, completely taken back by what was happening.
It's him. Eli is Blue.
I looked at Eli, and he stared knowingly at me. I could never stop admiring his beautiful ocean blue eyes.
No wonder they felt so familiar! Even from the start!
He never failed to understand my thoughts. He pulled me towards him and wrapped his arms around my waist, buried his head in the crook of my neck and sobbed silently.
My arms wrapped around his neck and I bawled my eyes out.
"I missed you so much," I whispered into his ear and he tightened the hug.
"I love you," he confessed, sinking into our embrace.
"I love you too," I stammered and clung onto him like my life depended on it. I don't want to let go of him. I never ever want to again.
I finally found him.
My long lost love.
Blue.
Eli.
The wait was finally over.
"And they got married and lived happily ever after," Mia said as she wiped away an imaginary tear with a handkerchief.
I giggled softly from my cries and looked up at them. Trixie had an arm around Mia's shoulder, and Pronto and Kord were standing beside them.
"What? Only Eli gets hugs?" Kord complained and Pronto pouted.
Eli let out a throaty laugh, before he stood up and carried me with ease. My legs wrapped themselves around his thick waist for support, my hands still around his neck and his around my waist. He walked towards the gang and we had a lovely reunion hug.
"I miss you guys so much!" I exclaimed as another tear escaped.
"Of course you do!" Mia cheered, smiling with tears of joy.
We pulled back from the group hug and I diverted my attention to the other two slingers in the room.
"Well that was sweet," Dana smirked at me, before she stretched out her arms to me, welcoming me for a hug. I smiled as Eli put me down. I ran towards her and squeezed her tight.
"Thank you for saving me and sorry that, in return, you got kidnapped and actually died," she said as we pulled away from the hug. This was her way of expressing herself, and I loved it.
I chuckled with her, before slowly turning to Twist as he awkwardly stood beside Dana and I.
We had eye-contact, and I smiled genuinely at him, before walking up to him and pulling him into a hug by his waist.
"Thank you for saving me," I thanked him and I could feel his heartbeat quickened. His arms then found their way around my shoulder and he hugged me back.
"Okay that's enough," I heard Eli said before I felt a grip on my shoulder pulling me away from Twist.
"Aww someone's jealous," Trixie teased as she smirked at Eli, who was trying his best to hide his blush.
"N-No! Of course not!" he pouted before pulling me into another bear hug. His muscular arms were once again on my back, and he rested his chin on my head. I flushed and buried my head in his strong chest. My arms found their way around his waist and I just could not stop grinning.
"I just... I missed her so much. I've waited for her for three years," Eli mumbled.
"What?"
Poor Dana and Twist. They were so confused.
"It's a long story," Mia smiled as she linked arms with Dana.
"But I'm hungry! So let's go visit the hospital's cafeteria!" she squealed, winked at Trixie before the girls dragged the boys out of the room.
Twist raised an eyebrow when Mia pulled him by his arm.
"Didn't we just had dinner-"
"Shut up."
The doors closed shut after Mia pulled Twist out of the room, and Eli sighed in content. He pulled me closer to him, if it was even possible. He lifted his chin off of my head and looked down at me.
I still couldn't believe it.
I was over the moon.
Blue was finally here.
"How did you figure it out?" I asked, tilting my head playfully and shot him a loving smile. "Did something happened when I blackout?"
He shot me the cutest smile ever and giggled adorably. He brushed his nose against mine, giving me butterflies.
"It all started when Mia unintentionally said something that proves to me that she's from the Surface," he smiled. "Don't ask what she said."
I giggled, and he pasted a heartwarming smile on his charming face.
"You look so different since I last saw you," he said. "You're so beautiful. I swear I told myself you are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen when I first saw you in the hideout."
"You're not bad yourself."
"Just 'not bad'?"
"Well no, you're the hottest guy I have ever met too."
"I know. You and Mia were very obvious back then."
I laughed and hid my face at the crook of his neck. I slowly looked up at him, and noticed how tired he was. His eyes were about to shut at any second. A small yawn escaped my lips. I was too happy to finally meet him that I didn't realise how tired I was too.
"You're sleepy," he said and pulled back from the hug. His hands slid down my arms to grab my palms, and I shivered from his touch.
"Come on," he whispered into my ear and gently pushed me forward with a hand on my back. He guided me to the bed and laid me down, tucked me in bed before he sat on the chair he was initially sleeping on. He hold onto my hand and kissed the back of it.
"I can look at you all night while you sleep but that would be creepy," he smiled sheepishly before he let out a small, cute yawn.
I raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Why see when you can join me?"
"Join you in bed?"
"Yeah. Like every other night. Well, maybe we can cuddle tonight if you want?"
"I'd love to, but this bed is too small for the both of us. I'll crush you, and I don't want to disturb your sleep. You had woken up from two comas for the last couple of days and you really need a good rest, Ales."
"... please?"
He looked deep into my eyes, before he nodded softly and got in bed with me. I cuddled with him within the little space we had. It was the best feeling in the world.
"Hey are you guys done-"
I shot up from my sleeping position when Mia walked into the room. Her eyes widened and she covered her mouth to gasp. Trixie barely walked into the room after her but Mia had already pushed her out of the room.
"Sorry! Continue with whatever you're doing! We'll sleep in the other rooms!"
"Mia!" I called out for her, but I can already hear running footsteps fading away. My cheeks were burning. She got the wrong idea. I was about to hop out of bed to make everything clear with her when Eli grabbed me by my waist and pulled me back down beside him.
"It's okay, Ales. Don't go. I want to cuddle," he whispered into my ear and snugged closer to me. I chuckled before laying in his arms.
We had little conversations; we were catching up on each other, and it was weird to do that since we had practically lived together for the past few months. He shared with me the adventures he had in Slugterra before I came, his ups and downs, his successes and failures. I love his voice, I could listen to him rant all day. And in return, I told him my stories. From how I learn to stand up for myself on the Surface after he left, to how I discovered Slugterra.
I smiled as I recalled the day after we released a batch of slugs to the wild. He told me that we shouldn't hang out too often, just to stay loyal to me.
I know. Complicated, but it really demonstrates how much he cares.
I had no idea when we fell asleep, but the next thing I knew was that I woke up from a dream and he wasn't beside me anymore. Orange, warm rays penetrated through the windows, and the faint noises of the crowd was still out there.
"Doctor please! I want to see her!"
I got excited when I heard him outside the door.
"Eli Shane, please understand that we are trying to do our job here, and it's best if there are no interference between our session. You may come back after the session to take her home! And why are you all dressed up in a-"
"Fine. You left me with no choice."
I frowned. He said it so coldly before he left, and I could hear heavy loud thumps as he stormed out of the hospital. The door opened and Doctor George walked into the room with a small box, wrapped in ribbon, in his hand.
He sat down on the chair beside my bed and passed me the box.
"Eli told me to give this to you," he said as I opened it. It was a chocolate cupcake, with white icing and sprinkles. A smile formed on my lips.
This was my favourite dessert as a kid.
He still remembers.
"Do you need some time to brush up? We can start the session after that," Doctor George offered.
"It's fine. Let's start," I said. I was not interested in a Q&A session with Doctor George. I just wanted to get this over with and see Eli.
"Alright then," he mumbled. He wore the glasses that were initially on his forehead and flipped through the pages on his clipboard.
"So, Alessia, how are you feel-"
Thump.
My gaze shifted towards the window and so did Doctor George's.
"Was that a rock?" I questioned, before another rock was thrown at the window.
"Alessia!"
It was Eli! I heard him calling out for me through a loud speaker. The crowd's cheers became deafening. Girls were screaming at the top of their lungs, and boys were whistling like there was no tomorrow.
"What's going on?" Doctor George yelled angrily and walked up to the window. His expression softened when he saw what was happening outside, before he shook his head and facepalmed himselves.
"Kids these days..." he mumbled before he left the room. Curiosity kicked in and I got out of bed to check out the situation. When I looked out the window, my jaw dropped to the Deep Cavern.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Underneath the breathtaking morning glow, Lucky was positioned sideways at the front of the hospital, behind the crowd, with Eli sitting on it on one side, facing the hospital. He was wearing a white, tight-fitting singlet that showed off his well-built muscles, with a pair of black pants. He was wearing a necklace; I couldn't see it clearly from where I was but I knew it was his key necklace.
A guitar rested on his lap and a microphone was positioned in front of his lips.
Guards were trying to get to Eli from all directions, to stop him from disturbing the other patients, but the rest of the Shane Gang surrounded Eli, stopping the guards from ruining the performance. All the other patients had their heads popped out of the window and were joining the crowd on cheering onto Eli. It didn't seem to bother them at all.
His face lit up when we made eye contact. He leaned forward and spoke into the microphone.
"This song is dedicated to you, Ales. I apologise in advanced if it's not up to your standards. I literally wrote this at three in the morning last night, but I hope you'll like it."
He finished off with a playful wink. The crowd let out a high-pitched yelp, before it went dead silent. Every single pair of eyes was on him as he positioned his guitar on his lap.
I watched as his fingers gracefully ran through the strings of the guitar. Melodious music sounded through the speakers, adding to the romantic atmosphere within the morning mist.
...
After so flopping long, Eli and Alessia finally found out about their hidden relationship and I can't be any happier
