"You have a place on my heart no one else could ever have." -F. Scott Fitzgerald
Todd's POV
It was amusing to Todd to watch Neil run amuck like a headless chicken. Neil was stressing hard about learning his lines and keeping his new found love for theatre under raps from his father. Despite Neil's stress levels skyrocketing, Todd saw a new light sparkling inside of him. The sheer joy of being in this play gave life back to Neil's eyes; something Todd was extremely elated to see.
"No, no, no!" Neil scolded Todd once he had begun to talk in his normal voice. "How am I supposed to learn my lines if you're slacking?"
Todd huffed. Although he found Neil's seriousness somewhat entertaining, it was beginning to wear him out. Todd had been helping Neil learn his lines all day. He'd put on funny voices, acting overdramatic, and generally just trying to make his friend relax some. Once Neil began to pout, Todd rolled his eyes and put effort into his performance once again.
Anything for Neil.
Neil tipped his head back and laughed heartily at the voices Todd would put on. His teeth flashing bright in the evening sun. Warmth bloomed in Todd's chest as he watched Neil. It was a sight Todd was sure he'd never grow tired of.
Todd yawned loudly as his eyes began to droop. His head lulled to one side causing him to jerk up.
"Mr. Anderson, is there a problem?" Mr. Keating asked, his tone teasing.
Todd blushed and mumbled a no when the others laughed quietly at him.
"Well! Since I am making this such an entertaining class for..."
The sound of Mr. Keating's voice faded into the background as Todd rested his head on his desk. He was so exhausted. Todd couldn't sleep. He hadn't been able to for the past few nights. All he could think about was Neil. his lips as they closed over a cigarette. His brown eyes sparkling as he practiced his lines for Puck. His wet hair and how it clung to his neck after a shower, like it never wanted to be parted from his skin. Todd squeezed his eyes tight as he tried to will away the wicked images. He shouldn't be staring at his best friend like that. It was unnatural. It meant he was a fairy. Yet Todd couldn't stop himself from staring.
BANG. The sound tore through Todd's eardrums causing him to jerk his body up. He glanced wildly around him, not knowing for a second where he was, until he spotted the familiar brown eyes that haunted him. Currently they were staring down at him with a mixture of kindness and concern.
"You okay?"
"Yeah," Todd slurred, his voice still heavy from sleep. "I guess I haven't been getting the best night of sleep here lately."
Neil lightly stroked Todd's shoulder, sending small jolts of electricity throughout his entire body. Todd felt his mouth drying as he stared up at his friend. Maybe it wasn't a bad thing what he was feeling. Why did it make him unnatural for loving another person?
A question that he never could answer.
