"Merlin!" Arthur shook him, scared for his life. He had no idea what had just happened. Maybe the spell had gone wrong because Merlin hadn't used his magic in such a long time. Whatever it was the spell had backfired. Merlin's eyes fluttered open, his face paler than ever and avoided Arthur's gaze which proved difficult as Arthur was practically holding him on the floor, his face inches away.
"Merlin? Are you hurt?" Merlin took a moment to respond, still looking dazed, but when he did he just shook his head slightly and pushed Arthur off him. Arthur tried to help him up when Merlin made to stand up but he just used the table for support instead of Arthur's hand which hurt the blond man quite a lot. "Merlin, what happened?"
Merlin took a moment to breath before answering in a horse voice, "The- My- Because I haven't used magic in such a long time, as soon as I let my grip loosen on it for the spell it all wanted to come rushing out. The water going into me was me reversing the water spell, I didn't mean to soak the whole house. I should have done this in a larger space," his voice was speeding up and becoming strained as if he were struggling to push his words past his through, "people could have gotten hurt here. I could have killed the neighbors, hell I could have killed you, Arthur, I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry, it's always me, its always me which causes you to die." Arthur slowly wrapped his arms around the panicking boy, holding him until his panicked chattering stopped and he whispered words of comfort and support.
The sun made its way down to the horizon until its last rays shone through the kitchen window illuminating two boys holding each other, the blond, buffer one stroking the gangly boy comfortingly. As soon as the dark engulfed the world the blond one lead them away.
They made their way upstairs and into Merlin's room. He made the raven-haired boy sit on the bed Arthur took his shoes off for him that had dried as soon as the orb of water had hit Merlin along with all their clothes; then they both laid next to each other looking up at the celling.
"Am I causing lots of problems being here?" Arthurs soft voice travelled the short distance to Merlin.
"Not at all. This was all my fault. I'm sorry." Arthur rolled over so that he was facing Merlin.
"One, it was not your fault and two, if you say your sorry one more time I will go and sleep in my room."
"Ok ok, I won't." Merlin was also facing Arthur now, and there was just enough light to see the smirk plastered on Arthur's face. they looked at each other in silence before Merlin broke the silence. "You know, I wasn't doing well before you came...It's much nicer when you are here."
Merlin could only just here the whispered response, "What is?"
"Everything. The world." Silence fell again as Arthur struggled to find what to say in response to that. Thankfully Merlin filled the silence again, "Living is so much easier and better when you are around." Arthur had to strain his ears to catch the whispered words. This time he did know what to say.
"Merlin, I know exactly how you feel." And with that he put an arm over the raven-haired boy, who subconsciously moved closer to the blond. They both fell into a deep dreamless soon after.

Merlin woke feeling happier than he had for a long time. He kept his eyes closed for a while enjoying the warmth given off by the blond haired next to him. When he had fallen asleep he was quite a few inches away from Arthur but now he got the feeling he was not as far. He peaked open his eyes and it took him a few moments to realise what he was looking at. He realised the pale white material that was directly in front of his face was Arthur's shirt. He looked up and nearly had his breath stolen away. The morning sunlight shone through the window behind Arthur making his hair look like it was glowing. Merlin blinked a couple of times to get used to the light until his eyes could open fully and a familiar voice broke the morning calm.
"You are so cute." Merlin jumped slightly at the voice and felt his face heat up from the sudden compliment. He hid his face in Arthur's shirt and could feel the deep vibrations in his chest as Arthur laughed.
"I thought you said I looked like a startled stoat." Came the muffled response.
"I never said startled stoats are not cute though." Merlin let out a chuckle.
"Hey, Arthur." Merlin looked up to meet the gaze of his king, "how would you feel about having brunch with me and a friend of mine?" Arthur looked at him confused. "Oh, brunch is like a meal between breakfast and lunch. Kind of like a large, late breakfast."
"Sounds fun." But he groaned as Merlin made to get out of bed and tugged him back to bed.
"We will be late if I don't start getting ready now."
Arthur huffed out a sigh, "Fine." Before letting Merlin go, he pecked him on the tip of his nose and he watched as an adorable blush spread on his pale face. Merlin smiled nervously at Arthur before leaving the room to go and have a shower. Arthur slumped back in his bed and got his phone out to pass the time.
