Sans decidedly did not like hospitals. The amniotic smell made him nauseous and seeing so many people in lab coats made him uneasy for some reason. He chalked that bit up to nostalgia from missing his dad.

Getting stitches in his cheek wasn't fun. Especially with Mina and Eiji sobbing like he was dusting away. Katsuki hadn't let go of his hand ever since he left his room with Natsumi, the only reason for that being he couldn't cradle him from behind with the doctor working. Not that he minded, or anything. He gladly welcomed the loving gesture.

Natsumi was filing a report with her coworkers just outside the door, speaking in hushed tones so Sans and the others wouldn't hear them.

"Welp, Papyrus is off the grid. We can't find any paperwork saying he bought a house, there's no way he had enough money to actually buy a house with only a junior cop bi-weekly salary, and there are no houses in the immediate area for sale or sold in the past month. He actually resigned from the station, saying that you two and Asriel were going home."

"I don't want to think about Papyrus doing something shady."

"I understand Sans. I'll go across the street and grab some fried chicken. You three make sure he doesn't leave until I get back. Aizawa and Hizashi are in the hall if you need them and Ichika will be back from questioning in a few minutes."

Natsumi kissed both Sans and Eijirou's foreheads and left the room. The doctor smiled and finished up the stitches.

"You'll have a scar, but it'll be superficial at best. Press the call button if you need anything."

She too left the room.

"So, Ma and Mom are happy about that slip up?"

"Shut up Eiji."

"What?"

Eijirou laughed and held his hands up in mock defense. Katsuki had already moved behind Sans, making sure that his grip was tight around his waist.

"Oh, Eiji, he didn't tell you?"

"Mina, don't -"

"Your mom gave him a copy of your birthday picture -"

"Mina, please."

"With a caption saying, "My Two Wonderful Boys" on the frame."

Mina grinned smugly at the two boys.

"Dude! That's awesome!"

Eijirou and Mina started chattering like birds about their internships. Katsuki was eerily silent. Sans expected him to be screaming about Papyrus and how he didn't trust him, but he was quiet.

"Hey Mina, could you get us some drinks?"

"Sure thing! Let's go Eiji!"

Mina all but dragged Eiji out of the room giving Sans a thumbs up.

"Katsuki? Are you okay?"

"Shouldn't I be asking you that?"

"Maybe, but I'm asking you. How'd you get to the house so quick?"

"The ring."

Katsuki showed the ring on a necklace chain around his neck.

"It started pulling me by the neck, and I remembered what you said this thing did, so I ran. I saw Shitty Hair at the door, pulling it off the hinges."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah, Eiji was worried about you honey."

Ichika walked into the room and sat on the bed near Sans's knees. She then rubbed his hair.

"Bakugo dear, please give us a minute."

"I'm going to find the other two."

Katsuki kissed Sans's temple and left the room, grumpily.

"Sans, are you okay?"

"I think. I don't remember a whole lot after what happened, but I remember you crying. Are you okay?"

"The whole ordeal just reminded me of what happened with my ex."

"What happened?"

"When Eijirou was four my ex-wife died in a drug overdose. Before that, she was very abusive to both of us. I don't think Eijirou remembers her, but it was a horrific time for both of us. Two years after she died when Natsumi and I were just married, my ex's dealer came to the house demanding payment for the drugs my ex stole. He tried to kidnap Eijirou, but Natsumi tackled him. I rushed Eijirou up the stairs and locked us in the bathroom while Natsumi dealt with him."

"I'm sorry that happened to you."

"Yeah, it's in the past, but seeing you like that, and assuming the worst, I panicked. I'm sorry if I scared you."

"You have nothing to apologize for. I should be apologizing about Papyrus."

"No, he isn't your responsibility."

"Damn straight."

Natsumi walked into the room with three bags and two buckets.

"As far as I'm concerned, Papyrus is a grown ass man, capable of making his own decisions. He made his bed and he can fucking sleep in it. Now shut yer trap and eat some chicken."

"But Mom, how can I eat if I'm to keep my trap shut?"

Ichika snickered behind her hand while Natsumi gave Sans a noogie. Eiji, Mina, and Katsuki all entered back into the room, relieved to see Sans laughing and joking around with the older ladies.

Everyone enjoyed their food over jokes and word games that Sans dominated. Of course that all had to end when Sans's doctor, Mrs. Tanaka, walked into the room with a confused look directed at her tablet.

"Hello Sans. May I speak to you and you guardians in private?"

"We'll be right outside the door bro."

Eijirou messed up Sans's hair and left the room with a giggly Mina and a scowling Katsuki in tow.

"Sans, when was the last time you had an eye appointment?"

"A what?"

Tanaka looked like she had a mini stroke right there.

"Alrighty then! I'm referring you to my college for an impromptu appointment in two days. I'll conduct a basic eye test now, though, just to get a scope of how your eyesight is."

A white board with letters and numbers manifested out of thin air with a long pointer stick.

"Alright Sans read the top row for me."

"Okay? X, N, H, K, L, P."

"Good, next line?"

"Erm, J, F...M...O...B?"

"Okay, next line please?"

"Those are just squiggles. I can't read that, is this how an eye test usually goes?"

"Yes. I don't want you doing any hero work until after your eye appointment."

"What?! I'm on my internship for UA!"

"Sorry young man, you heard her. I'm sending an, eye-mail, to your teachers. They'll be keeping an, eye, on you when we can't. If I get word that you did something that goes against the doctor's orders, you'll be put in the, cornea, for a time out."

Natsumi and Sans laughed their asses off while Ichika smiled exasperatedly at her wife and son.

"I'll make sure he gets to the appointment. Thank you, doctor."

"Of course. Have a good night. You're free to leave whenever you're ready."

They shook hands and Tanaka signed off on the release forms.

"KITTEN!"

Ragdoll was being held back from tackling Sans as soon as he left the room. See the form of Mandalay, all the drowsiness left his body in an instant. He was terrified to sleep around her. Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob were being held back by Tiger while Mandalay remained one of the only two Pussycats calm.

"Sans, what happened? We received a text from Ashido that you were in the hospital."

"Just some family mumbo jumbo. Sorry about not being back on time."

"I think I can let it slide, given the circumstances. Let's head back to the house. Power Loader is waiting for you."

"Okay!"

"Actually, Miss Mandalay. Sans was expressly told NOT to partake in hero work until after his next appointment. I'll email you the details."

Sans groaned into his hands, catching a subtle wink from his current hero mentor.

"Not to worry! We were just going over possible support items to help Sans be a hero. Nothing physical. All we'd be doing is discussing, maybe a measurement or two."

"That sounds...reasonable enough. Sans, if I hear you doing anything other than talking about your support crap, I'm dragging you home and dropping all the house chores on you for a month. Understood?"

"Yes, Ma."

Sans grinned sheepishly at the no-nonsense Ichika. Eijirou hugged Sans, and Katsuki pulled him into a violent kiss, no longer shy about PDA. After the tiny makeout, a dazed and very blue Sans was guided outside, by a crew of laughing cats and Pinky Pather. They loaded themselves into a nicely sized jeep with Tiger behind the wheel.

Sans ended up falling asleep on the trip back. No one had the heart to wake him. Not when he just had stitches put in his face for god knows what. With the help of Pixie, Mina manovered Sans to lay on his side, with his head in Mina's lap. Mandalay bunched up her sweater for a makeshift pillow, and Ragdoll used her sweater for a blanket.

Sans slept restlessly, but he didn't wake up at all. His dreams were full of lab coats, crying, and pain, but he was unable to wake up.
