It All Started With A Text....
Chapter Seven
"What are you going to wear ice skating?" Karla asked.
"I'm not sure," I said truthfully. I looked in the mirror, pinching my thigh and frowning. Kayla frowned, too, and swatted my hand away. "We need to go to the mall."
"Yeah, we do," she agreed, grabbing her purse.
"My mom can take us. Let's go," I said, running own the steps, grabbing my purse on the handle of the door on the way out.
My mom was sitting there, drinking tea. "What can I do for you, girls?"
"Can you please drive us to the mall?" I pleaded.
"Sure. Let's go," she replied. I checked my phone. It was ten, and we had to be at the skating rink at one.
"We've got roughly two hours at the mall," I called to Karla as we stepped into the car.
"All right, we'll find something," she replied, frowning a little bit.
"Where are you going?" my mom asked.
"To the skating rink at one. I told you two days ago," I said, giving her a little smirk.
"Oh, right, sorry. Okay, I'll pick you guys up in front of Sears at twelve, okay?"
I nodded and she drove off, waving. We walked into the mall and I breathed in the mall scent.
Isn't it weird how a mall can smell so good sometimes? Our mall is always really cool.
"So, where off to first?" I asked.
"Abercrombie!" Kayla exclaimed. We both walked to Abercrombie and started browsing around.
"What about this?" I asked, holding up a cute white, frilly top.
"Too dressy," Karla said, scrunching up her nose. I gave it a second glance and gave a nod.
"True."
We browsed around for another half hour before we both found our outfits.
Mine was a pair of dark wash flare jeans, a white tank top, and a dark blue and white striped long-sleeve shirt. I paired it with a pair of brown boots and then went to the cash register.
The total came to over a hundred dollars, which was actually pretty cheap, for Abercrombie.
Karla's outfit was a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, a plain gray longs-sleeved top, but a hot pink tank top underneath, giving it a splash of color.
We walked to the food court and bought subs from Subway, and then I texted my mom, asking her to pick us up early. She showed up five minutes later, and we both got in the car, hoping to get ready sooner for our date.
When we got to my house, we both walked inside, ready to started preparing. First, I pulled on my outfit easily, and then I got to work on my hair. I curled the ends loosely, and then pulled it into a low side ponytail.
I then put on some light black eyeliner, some silver eyeshadow, and mascara, with a pale pink lip gloss. I made sure to tuck that in my pocket, and then I fished around in my closet for my figure skates.
I found them and then we got my mom to drive us to the rink. Kayla and I were both ready and set to go, and when we walked in the rink, we saw both the guys there, waiting for us.
They both had their own hockey skates on, so I guessed that they were pretty good. We paid for the admissions, and then Kayla and I sat down and started lacing our skates up. Josh sat next to me and Parker sat next to Kayla.
"So, are you any good?" he asked me as I laced them up.
"I took skating lessons for eight years," I replied, standing up and taking the blades off.
"Cool. Come on, let's go before the rink gets all chopped up," he said, grabbing my hand. Tingles shot through my body, making me smile.
We both stepped on the rink and I was off. "I haven't skated in over a year!" I called to him, my hair whipping around.
It wasn't very crowded because it was the middle of the day, so the ice was still relatively smooth.
"Yeah, but you're still good," Josh replied.
After a few laps, I ventured to the very center, where they had it squared off for skaters to do tricks.
I did a quick camel spin, and then I skated on one foot whil holding the other one behind me in a scorpion.
"Wow, that's so awesome!" Josh called, gliding over to me.
"Thanks," I replied. We were near the wall, so I puched his arm and shouted, "Race ya to the other side!" and I took off.
I used all my power to glide easily to the other side, doing a small jump before going to the opposite wall.
"Wow, I wasn't expecting you to be that fast," Josh said, laughing as he came up.
"I'm going to go clean my skates real quick," I informed him, skating to the benches in the hockey pits. I cleaned the ice off of my blades, and then I skated back to the ice.
After another hour of skating, Josh and I walked off the rink and went to go get some food.
"Want to split the bosco sticks?" he suggested.
"Yeah, sure," I agreed. We got our food, and then we got a two-person table to eat at.
Parker and Karla were at a different table, looking at each other happily.
I giggled at them, and then Josh and I ate our food. We talked for awhile as the zambonie went around the rink, with us waiting to get back on the rink.
After the zambonie was all done, Josh and I glided around the rink a few times before I went to the still-smooth center to do some tricks. There was no one there, so I did a couple of experimental jumps before smiling in satisfaction.
I worked my way up to the harder jumps, and then I decided to attempt one of the hardest jumps for me; one that I made up myself.
I went over it in my head. I had to start way back, gain a lot of speed, and then do a double axel, into a Cuban Rooster, which is a scorpion, but you don't hold it, it is only there for a split second, too.
It was very complicated, and I have only landed it a couple of times before. I did an exel first, and then backed up all the way, and pushed off, going faster and faster. I threw myself into the air, did the axel, and threw my legs in the position, landing on one foot and gliding in a circle, my leg extended behind me, before stopping gracefully.
I skated around, really fast. Then I felt someone bump into me. I heard a faint, "Sorry!" and then they took off.
I only had a split second to think, so I made sure I wasn't going to fall on my face. I tilted my body a little, and then I hit the ice, hard.
I slammed my right knee, left hip, and left elbow on the ground, and then slid. I felt tears immediately spring to my eyes, and then I tried to stand, but I immediately fell back down on the ice. I couldn't move my knee at all, and it was throbbing painfully.
Luckily, there was only around ten people on the rink because many people left, so Josh glided over to me.
"Are you okay?" he exclaimed, dropping to his knees in front of me.
I shook my head no, and hissed in pain as I tried to bend my knee a little to stand up.
"Okay, don't try and stand, it'll make things worse," he advised me, bending down. He picked me up and set me on my good foot, making me wince in pain because I moved my knee a tiny bit.
He helped me glide over on one foot to the edge of the rink, and then he helped me off the ice, and half-carried me to the lobby area. I willed myself not to cry as he set me down on a bench near the locker area, and started taking off his skates. I took my left one off slowly, and then he helped me with my right one, being carefuly not to touch or move my knee.
"What happened?" he asked me as soon as our skates were undone.
"Well, I landed this really complicated jump, and stopped, and then kept skating. Someone rammed into me. I managed to make sure I didn't fall on my face, but I did slam my right knee, left hip, and left elbow. I can't bend my knee, or put any pressure on it at all. My hip doesn't hurt nearly as much, but it still does a little, but my elbow is just a little bit sore." I explained.
He nodded thoughtfully. "Okay. Let me see your knee."
I rolled up my pant leg and gasped. My entire knee was a huge mess of purple, red, and blue. I inspected my hip, where there was only about an inch of a faint purple bruise.
"Can you move your knee at all?" Josh asked worriedly.
I shook my head. "No."
"Okay. I think you need a doctor, and soon." he said. When he saw my panicked look, he hurried to explain. "I just want to make sure you will be okay. It's already swelling. Is it throbbing?" I nodded. "Okay, stay here. I'll be right back." He came back two minutes later, with Karla and Parker right behind him.
I told them what happened, and then I called my mom and gave her a rough run-down of what happened. She got to the ice rink within ten minutes, and Josh carried me to the car and sat me in the front seat.
Mom drove us to the doctors' office quickly after I showed her my knee. It was getting bigger. JOsh helped me inside the building, and the nurse led us into an empty room.
She took my blood pressure and temperature, and then left, saying the doctor would be there shortly.
"Is it my regular doctor?" I asked.
"Yup. I called her on my way to the rink and she said she could make an exception."
Just then, she walked in the door and smiled at us, giving me and my mom both a hug, and then Karla. Then she smiled at me and shook her head.
"Alexa, what did you do now?" she asked, grinning at me.
"Fell during ice skating, Aunt Maggie," I replied. Yup, she's my mom's sister. (My mom has five sisters!)
She looked at my hip first, and then my knee. "Wow, Alexa, you really banged up your knee."
"Yeah, I'm aware," I told her.
"Okay, so you cannot dance or cheer for the rest of the week. And I don't mean like just tomorrow, I mean like next week. I don't want any pressure on that knee at all, so you have to use crutches, at least until Wednesday, if not later. And you have to cie it at least twice a day. More will help take the swelling down much easier."
"But I have to dance and cheer on Friday!" I whined.
"No, there's no football game, that's next Friday," Josh reminded me.
"Oh, right, but I do have to dance for the basketball game on Friday night, right Karla?" I clarified. She nodded.
"How about this? I'll come to your house on Friday night and determine if you can. Sound good?"
I nodded. "I guess so."
"Cool. I'll go get your crutches." She came back a minute later with a pair of crutches my size. I tried them out. She hugged me good-bye, and then we all walked (I hobbled) back to the car.
My mom started the car, and dropped everyone off at their houses quickly, and then we drove to our house.
I used the crutches and managed to drag myself to the couch and watched TV. I just hung out on the couch for the rest of the day, only getting up once or twice for food.
When it was ten, I dragged myself upstairs to go to bed. I read a couple of chapters of a couple books, and then I fell asleep.
