While things were going a bit haywire in your life, you finally did manage to make a female
acquaintance. Ms. Bitters had initiated a 2 partner project to work on a worksheet for the remainder of class. At first you sided with Dib but that wasn't until you saw some kids walk past a girl and sneer at her in disgust. "Dib you don't mind riding this one alone do you?" You asked as he gave a bit of a puzzled look until he saw what you were doing. You walked over to Gretchen with a smile and books and papers in your hands.
"I'll be your partner Gretchen." She looked surprised yet very excited someone had chosen her to be her partner. And throughout the whole class the two of you worked laughing and taking. She was a bit shy as usually many people made fun of her braces instead of having an actual conversation but you tried to keep things very light and happy for her. "I kinda want to talk to her but I don't think she'll really like that." She said looking one other girl in the class. "Oh Gretchen I bet if you talk to her the same way you are with me you and her will get along just fine hun."
Over the next few weeks, you had saw Gretchen hanging out with a few other girls her age smiling and laughing. You had felt very proud of Gretchen that's for sure. "I don't know how you do it Y/N, maybe you have powers or something." Dib said as you started packing up for the end of the day. "Yes Dib. Simply being nice is a super power. Maybe if I say it like that people around here might actually think that." You said laughing a bit. "With our class they'll believe anything." Dib said dryly. "Yeah.." He looked a little grumpy at the moment and you came up with an idea to lighten up the mood.
(Okay but real talk literally all official Merchandise for Dib has him looking like he's about to stab a binch like I can't.)
"Hey, how about we walk to the diner? My mom's working the shift there." You offered. "Yeah sure, I could use a milkshake." He said as you walked along.
"Look, all I'm saying is that there are real vampire bats look!! See! It all adds up!!" As you took a sip of your milkshake you rose your eyebrow. "Dib Vampire Bats are real things. And they suck blood exactly as you said." Dib put down his fry and addressed you with his finger giving his signature 'I told ya so,' Look.
"Yes, but have you ever heard of vampire bats that turn you into a hideous monster? I don't think so!" You finally put your milkshake down, smiling to yourself on Dib's determination and confidence on the matter. He was always so sure of himself while on the other hand you weren't, and with all the hate he was getting he never truly backed down. It was something remarkable. "Hey um. I know this is really sudden and all, but how-,"
"How are you kids doing?" Asked the waitress as she cleaned your remaining dishes. "We're great Ms. Kate thank you." Kate had been a long time friend and supporting figure in your mother's life when your father had been out to fight. She'd babysit you when you were younger, all that good stuff. "How many times do I have to tell you you can just call me Kate Sweetpea!" She said ruffling your hair. "This your friend? And your name is...?" Dib looked a little awkward as he wasn't used to people talking to him but he managed to stay polite. "Dib Ma'am." He said putting a hand out for a handshake. Kate chuckled and shook his hand.
"What a fine young man you are!" She said smiling. Before she left, she leaned in close and said something. "You two are getting married right hun? He'd make a fine husband for sure!" Your face immediately blushed as you turned to her "No-wait-K-kate it's not like that!" You said stuttering as she giggled and left to the back corner. You put your face in your hands and sighed. "Dib I'm so sorry they can be really uncomfortable at times." You couldn't quite see it clearly because of the lighting, but Dib's cheeks were tinted pink as well. "No, it's-It's fine I don't really care." He did care though even though he led on like he didn't. Sometimes he thought about that every once in awhile outside of the countless paranormal investigation thoughts spinning in his head. You were just incredibly kind, pretty, and very smart for your own age, it was hard not to think about it. But he carried out the conversation as if nothing ever happened.
"I figured since you were into the paranormal as much as I am you might be interested in this." He then pulled a card out of his pocket and slid it over across the table to you, and as you picked it up you noticed a number and a logo that closely resembled an eyeball. "Dib-...Is this a cult?" You asked smirking. "What?! No." He said defensively. "It's sounds like it." It was a bit easy to push his buttons at times, but you didn't blame him. There was a lot to be frustrated about. "Look do you want in or not?" You smiled and laughed. "I'm just kidding, but I'll think about it." You put the card in your backpack to examine it later and think about your options.
"You ready to head home?" You asked as you packed the rest of your stuff. "Yeah I'm ready." After that, the two of you headed back home leaving you alone with the peace of the night.
The very next morning you walked in things seemed a little off. Ms Bitters was in the back of the classroom with a mysterious box counting down. "Do you have any idea what that might be?" Gretchen asked nervously. "I haven't got a clue." You said mirroring her concern. Eventually, as everyone sat down the box started to count further and further down. The beeping was suspicious enough but the timer really took the cake for the growing fear inside the children. Almost an instant afterwards, Ms. Bitters pressed the red button to reveal a very small hamster in a cage. The pounding in your chest didn't stop since it was built up suspense but at least you could breathe.
"By order of the Skool board, in an attempt to reduce Misery amongst skoolchildren, this class is issued one class pet, hamster class... named Peepi." Said Ms Bitters as her cold demeanor didn't change despite the fact she was presenting a hamster. You looked at the hamsters fuzzy little cheeks and beady eyes and smiled warmly. It was almost as if he was staring back at you with the same smile until a kid pushed you away leaving you on the cold floor. "Ohh Peepi so cute!", "Look at his widdle Peepi face!", "He's like a fuzzy little pee-pee person!"
You sighed and stood back and observed from afar making sure you weren't trampled. Zim however wasn't having it as he shrieked with terror as Peepi approached him in his terrarium. "Do I even have to say anything at this point?" Dib said with irritation in his voice. "It's okay Zim, there are a lot of other kids who have obscure fears. I have a lot myself." You said trying to reassure him. Not that he seemed like he needed it you were just trying to be nice. "If you are referring to my reaction to that hair.... monster, I can assure you that like the other normal children I find it... eh..."
"Cute. The word is cute. Humans think hamsters are cute."
"Yesss... This cuteness has a curious effect on human beings. Makes them.. weak." Zim went silent for a moment until he was brought back into reality. "Hmm. Yes it just might work." Dib was obviously confused as to what he meant, but you ignored him as you were just very tired of his antics.
Throughout the day you realized how much more tired you've started becoming. But, thankfully, you had a enough energy to get you to the end of the day and back home. "Hey sweet pea how was school?" Your dad said greeting you as he sat upon the couch with a can of Old Milwaukee in his hand. "It was okay! On the bright side we got a pet hamster! He's pretty healthy looking so that's good." You mentioned hanging your coat on the hanger. "I remember we got a hamster too! But uhh, glad it was healthy. Ours died of a kidney disease the day after." Your dad mentioned a bit grimly. "Oh." Is all you said before retiring to your room to do whatever it is a Y/N does.
The next morning class was quite the spectacle. Ms. Bitters had a child upside down on a chair, with a stop watch in her hand watching intently to see what would happen.
"A minute-twenty-seven. If you're determined to let the blood rush to your head you better have trained for it." She barked with hardly a look of pity on her face.
"Ms. Bitters, have you noticed anything strange about the hamster?"
You looked to the back of the room to find the hamster nearly growing out of its cage with a huge mechanical device on its back.
Oh geez.
"...He's three times his size, and he has that hideous throbbing alien device on his back!"
Suddenly you panicked when a large crashing noise sounded throughout the room only to find a large hole at the bottom of Peepi's cage. Suddenly children's desks began falling down, and you immediately got out fearing yours would collapse too. You looked out the window to find Peepi growing slowly by eating a hole straight through the fence, and soon after Zim ran out to follow his newest evil plan. You were in shock to do anything until you found Dib going after Zim and since you had nothing to do, you followed him anyway. Before you got anywhere though a giant explosion erupted from the power plant, and Peepi was about the size of Godzilla. "This is worse than Kidney Disease." You muttered out unable to move out of how terrified you were.
"Y/N!" You were snapped back into reality as Dib ran towards you. "We have to get help! Hurry! Come with me!" Before you could protest Dib grabbed your arm quickly and dragged you along. Unfortunately, you saw your flip phone fall out of your pocket onto the concrete floor. "My phone!" You cried out trying to grab it, but before you could Dib pulled you further away. "Dib my phone what if my mom wants to contact me!!" You yelled again as Dib suddenly came to a halt and faces you. "Y/N it's way too dangerous! For all we know it could be under rubble or Peepi crushed it. Just trust me. Please that's all I ask." He seemed very serious at the moment, and it was almost very out of character for him to be this worried for you.
(Probably because it was buuut hey I'm just the writer what do I know.)
You sighed and clenched your fists nodding. "Let's go get some help then."
The two of you approached a tent filled with officers, soldiers and generals. "Okay, you stay out here, and I'll tell them about Zim's involvement with Peepi. I'll be right back!" You nodded in agreement and with that he charged into the tent. That was Dib for you, Facing danger head on. That's something you admired about him but that wasn't the main focus right now. You approached the tent listening in on the conversation so you totally weren't out of the loop.
"He's not a normal hamster! He's been.. altered, somehow, through alien technology. Eating makes him larger. the more he eats, the bigger he gets!"
"Good work boy! How do we stop him?"
The man's voice sounded awful familiar.
"I...don't know." There was a brief moment of silence until the general screamed for him to get out. As the soldiers began to pile on top of your poor friend, you charged in the tent as he did. "Wait please!! Don't hurt him!" You exclaimed as the soldiers stopped what they were doing. "M-ms. L/N! What are doing here? It's much too dangerous for children such of yourselves to be meddling in adult situations. You should go home to your father and mother." He said calmly. "Sir what he was saying was right. Maybe try aiming for the mechanical parts around Peepi, that could get him to stop. But please we'll get out of your hair." You said pleading to him as you didn't want your friend to have such a struggle with these men. He nodded gently and the two of you began to walk back home.
"Did you know the General? He seemed to know you.", "Actually Yeah. My father worked with him a bit." You answered kicking a pebble. "How do you do it Dib?" He looked over at you with a puzzled look. "What do you mean?"
"Well, you never seem afraid and you run into dangerous situations head on. I wish I was just home with my mother and father hiding half the time." Things were silent for a bit. "Well I don't know honestly. It kind of just happens naturally. But that's what's expected of Earth's greatest defender right?" You nodded smiling just a tad bit. Eventually the two of you had reached Zim's neighborhood on your pursuit back home only to be met with the giant hamster himself and a ship shooting at it. You had never seen Zim's ship before in your life but here it was in the flesh.
Almost as if on cue, both you and Dib had a complete moment of Jinx as the both of you muttered aloud at the same time "Never thought I'd see that," but for completely different reasons. As the display unfolded, things weren't going well for Zim as Ultra Peepi landed a blow on Zim's ship leaving it crashing through multiple buildings. Of course with your friend Dib being so determined he followed the crashing ship all the way to the city only to be met with a giant crater in the road with his ship completely ruined. But that didn't matter to you. Zim was unconscious but as you approached him with a contemplative Dib in the background.
As you recalled you had never seen him out of his disguise. He looked so delicate, but in fact he was the exact opposite. For the longest time you just stood there in awe as you were here to witness a living breathing creature from outside of your world. He moved a bit and started to open his eyes and this caused you to quickly hide behind his ship still watching him. His eyes were an intense red, something you had ever seen before. You were honestly truly captivated. "GIR! Come and get me!" He yelled into his communication device assuming to get transportation. You began to walk a bit away from the ship and out into the open but very cautiously of course. He turned his attention over to you and you quickly became engulfed with fear. At first he looked shocked until he saw it was you and then he just simply looked away crossing his arms tapping his foot impatiently. Almost as if he didn't care you saw him that way.
Gir had finally coming full blast with his rockets and began to carry Zim off to wherever he was going. "Wait! Zim! Promise me your on our side this time.", "I know not of sides, Earth stinks. But just this once I agree with you two. The hamster must be stopped.
"No! Oh, wait. Yeah, go on then." You nervously looked at Dib and then the giant hamster in the distance. "Can we really trust him?" You asked weakly anxiously picking your nails. "We're going to have to...WAIT! THE MILITARY! We have to stop then from inter fearing with Zim's plan! Come on!" The two of you made your way to follow Zim so nothing horrible would happen. This whole thing was exhausting you and you just wanted to go see if your house was still intact along with your parents.
You thought how worried sick your parents must be watching the news bulletins and not knowing where their only child is. Throughout your journey there were many dead ends on where the two of you should scope out the whole ordeal until it came apparent that he was leading Peepi into the carnival. Finally your journey came to an end as you met with the military about to launch an attack. "Don't attack! The alien is trying to get rid of the hamster. Don't interrupt his plans!" Dib cried out running in front of the large tanks and equipment. Next thing you know they were putting him in a crazy bucket, and there wasn't anything you could really do about that. "You okay?!" You asked frantically trying to get him out of the way before they shot. "I've been through worse." He simply replied watching Zim from above. And within a few minutes, Zim had Ultra Peepi launched into the cold vacuum of space. Finally after an eternity Zim rejoined society back in full disguise with you, and another little kid who was distraught over Peepi's fate.
"W-why?" The child asked sniffling and staring off into the open. "Why? Because alien tampering with our life forms is dangerous, and ends in pain-," Before Dib could finish he was immediately kicked away by Zim and left out of the conversation yet again. "Because when you create a giant monster of doom, no matter how cute, you have to, you have to... I don't know. But stop sniveling, little worm monkey. Ultra Peepi will live on. Out there. ...In the stars." You sighed out in relief with the whole ordeal. You could finally relax until-
"Y/N M/N L/N!" Oh dear you knew that voice anywhere. You turned around to face your concerned yet angry mother. "M-mom I can explain." Before you could ramble on anymore she engulfed you in a tight hug sighing. "Don't you ever scare me like that again do you hear me?!" She said chuckling a bit relieved that her daughter wasn't crushed completely. She finally let go and looked around to see the display around her. "Oh you poor kids are you okay?" Your mother said looking sympathetically at Dib tipped over in his crazy bucket.
"Here hon lets get you out of here." She said picking him back up and grabbing her car keys trying to find the sharpest one she could find. Both of you were puzzled on how she was going to solve the ordeal but immediately she stabbed the large key through the bucket and with the tear made ripped it open with her bare hands so Dib could get out. Dib arguably looked very shocked by your mothers strength but thanked her anyway.
"Now lets get your kids home."
