I half woke up in the dark not sure where I was or what time it was, hoping the past few days had been one of my dreams. I remembered that they weren't and burrowed down into the unfamiliar smell and feel of my sheets. I felt around on the floor for my dress and cuddled it close to my face, breathing in the familiar smell of home, but even it smelled different now. I don't know why but it made tears seep out of the corners of my eyes.

It was like time had frozen, she lay there as if she'd fallen asleep while she was cleaning, but the blood was everywhere. Without thinking he ran to her and held her limp body in his arms. He stayed there, sobbing and holding her tight, until he heard Sarah's car pull up out the front. He quickly composed himself, embarrassed at his primitive outburst of grief, kissed her forehead, and before he could have a second thought, bundled her into the chute to the basement.

"Sarah, there's been an accident, I need you to clean up as best you can."

He saw her eyes flick over his bloody jacket, and quickly took it off and bundled it into the back of the car while she went inside.
