Adam nervously rings the doorbell, he nervously starts fiddling with his necklace. He hasn't been here in almost a year. The door opens, a red haired man opens he door. His green eyes stare at him with a blank expression, he has a slender figure and fair skin. Beautiful, just like his husband.
"Hello, June. Long time no see."
He greets, an awkward laugh escaping his nervous lips. June stares blankly at his waving hand, his gaze is as cold as ice. His green eyes shift to Adam's face.
"It's been a long time, Adam."
June invites him in, he hesitates. He won't be here for long, he just has to drop something off. As he's about to speak, June tugs his wrist.
"Are you not coming in?"
His tone is more casual now, his face is a little softer but still stoic. Adam shakes his head, he hands June a few paper bags.
"I just wanted to give these, I couldn't give them on Christmas."
June stares at the paper bags, he sighs and tugs his arm even more persistent.
"It's better if you give them yourself, Abraham will be home soon."
Adam looks around, he doesn't need to, but at the same time, he does want to. He wants to see Abraham's reaction to his gift, Abraham always tells him not to give him anything but Adam really wants to give his best friend gifts.
"I suppose just for a bit."
Adam follows him inside, he awkwardly sits down as June goes to prepare him tea. Once he returns, he sets it down on the coffee table and pours Adam a cup. He politely receives it, he can feel the corner of his lips twitching from how fake his smile is.
"Thank you for being so welcoming."
"Are you still mad at me?"
The sudden question makes him flinch, such an unexpected question. He thinks back, there's really no memory of any instance where he would be angry. Sure, he holds many grudges, but June is Abraham's lover.
"Why would I be?"
He asks, taking a sip of the hot tea. He tries to hide the fact that he just burned his mouth by calm setting the tea cup down. Maybe he shouldn't have drank it so fast.
"Because of what happened in high school."
Adam pauses, his mind replays the scene of June and him fighting. He can't remember exactly what happened, but it was probably his fault.
"I'm sorry."
So he decides its best if he apologizes, June's eyes widen slightly, he frantically shakes his head. He grabs both Adam's hands, his eyes look sad.
"Don't be, it was my fault. I shouldn't have been so cold."
June looks at him pitifully, he seems to be waiting for forgiveness, despite him not being at fault.
Back in college, when Abraham and June had first met, and he had met June for the first time. They didn't hit it off and they ended up fighting. He was immature back then, he probably insulted June.
"It was my fault."
"It wasn't, I'm sorry. I was just jealous of you and Abraham."
June quietly apologizes, honestly, he prefers the blame be put on him. It's better this way, afterall, he always messes up. It's inevitable that he would ruin his own relationships.
"I understand."
Realizing that June is getting upset, he thinks it's best if he just ends the conversation and changes the topic.
He grabs one of the paper bags on the floor and hands it to June, surprised, June accepts it.
"This one is for you."
June tilts his head, confused. He opens the paper bag and he reaches inside for the gift. June holds up the apron he bought, his eyes twinkle.
"Thank you!"
His face brightens up, a beaming smile on his usually stoic face. He's not used to this, he just nods and smiles awkwardly.
"You and Abraham are really close, aren't you? You were always together."
"He was my best friend."
June gently pats his head, giving him a smile he never thought he'd receive from June.
As June is staring at the apron, they hear the door unlock. Adam turns to see Abraham enter the living room.
Abraham looks surprised, but quickly smiles. He greets Adam and kisses June on the cheek. Adam stares at them, he's happy for them.
He suddenly remembers, he grabs the smallest paper bag and takes out the box inside. It's a small box decorated with a purple ribbon. He hands it to Abraham, smiling shyly.
Abraham stares at the box, intrigued. He slowly pulls the ribbon, lifting the lid of a box, Adam swallows nervously.
Abraham's eyes widen at the beautiful Sapphire gem wrinkling in the light.
Abraham doesn't wear jewelry or anything flashy, but when he saw the broach, he just had to buy it for him. It reminded him of his beautiful blue eyes.
"Oh.. wow."
"Is it too much?"
Adam asks nervously, fighting back the urge to bite his nails. He had promised Noah he wouldn't, his lovely boyfriend was worried about him, how could he not listen?
Abraham stares at the broach for a moment, before raising his head to look Adam in the eyes. The corner of his eyes curl up as a smile blooms on his perfectly carved lips.
"I love it! Thank you, Adam."
Relief washes over, he returns the friendly smile. June reaches for the broach and puts it on Abraham's collar. It really did suit him.
Abraham embraces Adam, causing him to flinch in surprise. He hugs Abraham back, happy that he made his best friend happy. His eyes meet June, they stare at each other for a while. Realizing what he's doing, Adam pulls away.
Confused, Abraham turns to June. June just innocently waves his hands in the air and says he's going to give them space. After June leaves the room, Adam let's go of the breath he didn't even know he was holding.
The two of them stare at each other, before bursting into fits of laughter.
