"Sharon, Bucky, Y/n, what's going on on your end?" Sam asked over the radio. They had been patrolling the outside of the building to try and spot Karli or any of her people. But so far they hadn't seen anyone.

"Nothing. All quiet." Bucky replied to him from beside Y/n.

"No one's moving towards the building." Sharon said

"Karli's not coming in. She's trying to force everybody out." Sam said

Bucky and Y/n began to walk over to the entrance of the building. They met up with Sharon and entered the large GRC building.

"You guys are gonna have to do something. Don't let 'em out of the building." Sam said to them over the radio.

There was a metal detector up ahead of them. Bucky walked through first and the machine didn't beep, which honestly surprised her considering how many weapons he must be carrying.

Y/n walked through after him and surprisingly the metal detector didn't beep for her either. Though she didn't have to carry nearly as many weapons as Bucky did.

Sharon went through the metal detector behind Y/n and the machine began to beep and flash red.

"Oops." Sharon said with little actual regret. In this situation, the metal detector was the least of their problems.

"Here's one of them." Bucky nodded towards the window. "I'll get the evac."

"I'll come with you." Y/n said. Bucky nodded and placed his hand on her lower back. The two of them walked away from Sharon and along a corridor.

An announcer's voice suddenly spoke loudly over a speaker. "This is an emergency evacuation. Please proceed to your transports. Group one and two will leave from secure vehicles in the basement. Group three will leave via air support on the roof."

If Karli and her people heard that, they would know exactly where to find the people who were evacuating so they could kill them.

The two avengers walked around a corner and saw a woman who was staring at them. She held a phone up to her ear and she began to walk towards them.

"Mr Barnes, it's Karli." She said as she held the phone out to Bucky.

Bucky paused and looked at the phone before he shot a glance at Y/n. They gave each other an understanding look before Bucky took the phone and held it up to his ear.

"Karli?" Bucky asked

"Aren't you tired of fighting for the wrong side?" Karli asked on the other end of the phone.

Bucky and Y/n began to walk down a set of stairs.

"I've done this before, kid. I know how it ends." Bucky scoffed

"It doesn't matter if I don't survive this. I'm fighting for something bigger than myself. With all the bodies you've collected, have you been able to say the same?" Karli asked. Y/n clenched her hands into fists at her comment. Bucky is not the winter soldier.

"You don't think I ever fought for something bigger than myself? That's all I ever tried to do. And I failed twice." Bucky said.

"You think your cause justifies all this death, but in the end, the nightmares won't go away. You're gonna remember all the ones you killed. Trust me. Don't do this. Don't go down this path." Bucky said. y/n latched onto Bucky's free hand and gently squeezed, trying her best to give him comfort as her heart broke for him.

"If that's how you feel, you should sit this one out." Karli said

"Come on, you know I ain't gonna do that." Bucky replied

"Well, thank you. I'm glad you took my call. You've been a big help." Karli said. Y/n furrowed her brows at her words before she suddenly realised why Karli had called Bucky. She knew that she would get him talking and distract him from the evac. And she knew that Y/n would be right beside him and unable to leave his side because of the things she said. They had been played. Big time.

The line on the other side went dead and Bucky pulled the phone away from him in annoyance.

"Damn it!" Bucky yelled. He suddenly let go of Y/n's hand and took off running. Y/n was quick to follow after him, though she couldn't run as fast as he could.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Y/n and Bucky rushed through the empty parking garage. The evac had long gone and they had to catch up fast. Or there would be a lot of casualties on their hands.
Bucky immediately headed towards a motorbike. Y/n ran up behind him and stopped to catch her breath. Her heart was beating rapidly in her chest as her lungs burned for oxygen.
"Seriously, you guys had one job." Sharon said to us as Bucky readied the bike. He swung his leg over the bike and turned to Y/n, he offered his hand to her and she took it gratefully. She swung her leg over the sleek black bike and wrapped her arms tightly around his waist.
"You just worry about your guy." Bucky said as he revved the engine.
The tires screeched against the tarmac as the bike sped forward. Y/n subconsciously tightened her grip on Bucky's waist.
They sped quickly up the ramp that led to the car park's exit. Somehow the world seemed even darker than when they had entered the building. The night sky casting the city into darkness and reflecting the situation down below.
The two avengers sped towards a police blockade. The officers had to move quickly to drag the navy blue fences out of the way.
"Hey!" One of the officers yelled to them in annoyance.
Bucky sharply turned a corner and sped along the road. They had to move quickly to get there in time. Y/n had considered flying over there, but she knew that the motorbike would be just as fast as she would be. Besides, it was always a good idea to work as a team in these situations.
"Bucky! Y/n!" Sam's voice called over the radio.
"I don't fly, man. That's your thing." Bucky replied.
"I'm on my way, cap." Y/n said. She released her hold on Bucky and gathered her powers into her hands. The blue light illuminated the darkness.
Y/n shifted in her seat so she could bring her legs up and stand on the seat. She then pushed herself off of the bike with her powers and flew upwards. Bucky continued to drive quickly along the road below her.
She flew up so she was above the buildings, scanning the area for any signs of the helicopter and Sam.
"Where are you?" Y/n asked over the radio
"Heading your way." Sam replied. Y/n furrowed her brows in confusion for a moment before she realised what he meant. The noise of helicopter blades spinning caught her attention and she spun around. Heading in her direction was a helicopter that was not flying straight. It seemed to be zigzagging and dropping at random intervals.
She also saw Sam following after the chopper. "I see you."
The helicopter dropped quickly down towards the river and Y/n quickly joined the pursuit. She flew alongside Sam as they skimmed closely to the water.
A bright light shone from above them. Another helicopter was following after the evac chopper with a flood light that was illuminating the out of control vehicle.
Sam flew ahead and attached himself to the side of the chopper. Y/n kept a close distance. He tried to pry open the window but the pilot began to shoot at Sam. He quickly let go of the chopper and flew down.
"Are you okay?" Y/n asked over the radio as she continued to follow the chopper.
"Yeah. I'm good." Sam replied
Sam then sent redwing over to the chopper to scan them. The pilot began to shoot at redwing so the robot quickly retreated and went back to Sam.
"See anything?" Y/n asked
"One of the hostages is a pilot." Sam replied
"Are you going to do what I think you are?" Y/n asked. Knowing that he was most likely going to get that person to fly the chopper and land it.
"Probably." Sam replied.
"Okay." Y/n sighed, she hoped that the person is going to be ready for this.
The chopper quickly dropped back down towards the water, Y/n and Sam quickly dropped down after them. She thought about using her powers to try and control it but it was too risky. There was a high probability that she would cause them to crash.
The evac chopper flew upwards quickly. It was headed straight for the other helicopter. Y/n's heart dropped as the helicopter's came dangerously close to each other. She then shot her hand out and wrapped her power around the other helicopter, causing the evac chopper to avoid the other one.
Her power cushioning the impact didn't help much though, the other chopper began to spin out of control.
Sam and Y/n halted, spinning around to face the out of control chopper. The two of them sped towards the chopper as fast as they could.
"You get the pilot on the left. I've got the one on the right." Sam called out to her.
"Copy that." Y/n replied. She flew over to the chopper and pulled the door open with her powers.
The pilot looked shocked as she unbuckled his seatbelt and wrapped her arms around him.
"Hold on." She shouted over the wind as she pulled him out of the chopper and into the air. The man screamed as they fell down, getting away from the chopper as fast as possible.
Y/n saw Sam heading towards the bridge and she followed after him. The pilot and Y/n landed on the safety of the bridge beside Sam and the other pilot.
Y/n looked up and gasped as she saw the chopper barrelling down towards them. Sam grabbed onto the pilot he saved and pulled his wings around them both.
Y/n pushed the pilot behind her and raised her hands in front of her. The chopper was inches away from making contact with the bridge when she wrapped her power around it and pushed it away. The chopper spun away from the bridge and landed in the water below with a massive splash.
Sam unraveled his wings from around the pilot and looked towards Y/n. She gave him a smile and turned to look at the pilot who was standing behind her.
"Are you okay?" She asked him
"Yes. Thank you." The pilot nodded, she could see in his eyes that he was in shock, and she wasn't surprised.
Y/n nodded to him and turned back to Sam. He was looking out at the crowd of bystanders who were clapping and cheering for them.
"Ready to go?" Y/n asked him
"Absolutely." Sam replied. He took off from the ground and Y/n quickly followed after him. One chopper down, one to go.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Y/n and Sam had caught up to the chopper again. They were flying alongside it and ever since they had fallen behind it had become a lot more steady.

"I'm going to contact the pilot." Sam said to her.

"Okay." Y/n replied.

Sam flew over to the chopper and had a look in the window. Apparently the pilot had spotted him because shots began to fire rapidly once again. Sam backed up and flew next to Y/n again.

Y/n squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, unlike Sam she didn't wear goggles. And she was starting to regret that choice as her eyes stung and watered.

"A little birdie told me you know how to fly a helicopter." Y/n heard Sam say over the wind. We were now flying between the chopper and a cargo ship.

The chopper suddenly swerved and flew towards them. The blades were headed straight towards them. Y/n's heart jumped in her chest and she raised her hands, pushing against the chopper to keep it away from them.

The chopper didn't give up though. It flew away for a moment which caused Y/n to drop her guard, but it suddenly flew back towards them and rammed into Sam. Sam raised his shield to protect them both from the blades.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!" Sam screamed as the blades hit against his shield.

The pressure knocked both Sam and Y/n off course. They crashed into a line of large metal pipes and began to fall towards the water. Y/n squeezed her eyes shut as she made contact with the water. Her body was submerged in the freezing river. She could sense that Sam was nearby.

The large, metal pipes were falling from above and landing heavily in the water. Y/n used her powers to keep them away from herself and Sam. Her lungs began to burn as she held her breath, she was desperate for oxygen.

A hand grabbed onto Y/n's wrist and began to pull her up. She could see the blue light of Sam's suit as he started it up. Y/n focused on her powers and pushed herself up as well.

She gasped as her head burst out of the water. Her whole body was soaking wet as she flew upwards alongside Sam. She could help but shiver as she flew through the cold night air.

"Whoa! Boy, you just earned this ass-whoopin'." Sam yelled. Y/n couldn't help but laugh loudly at his comment.

"Okay. What we're about to do requires perfect timing. We're gonna count down from five. When we get to one, you're gonna grab the control. Okay?" Sam asked the pilot.

"Five...four...three...two...one." Sam finished the countdown as he threw his shield at the pilot door. The door opened and Sam flew right through and grabbed the pilot. Y/n raised her brow, feeling impressed by her friend's move.

She quickly flew under the chopper and wrapped her powers around the vehicle, keeping it steady while she waited for the pilot to take over.

"I've got you." She said over the radio to the pilot.

The chopper felt out of control for a moment before it began to steady itself. "I've got it. I've got it." The pilot called over the radio to her.

Y/n released her hold on the chopper and moved away from it. She felt a small amount of pressure lift off her shoulders now that they were safe. "Good job." She said to the pilot.

"Nice work, Ayla." Sam said to her.

"Right Cap, let's go help Bucky." Y/n said to him.

"You got it." Sam replied. The two of them flew away from the chopper and headed towards the city once again. Though they were slightly more wet than they were before.
