Two whole months passed after Jimin's sudden admission to the hospital, and of Taehyung and Namjoon putting up the possibility of the "voice" being a Siren's call. Needless to say that the possibility aroused a tight tension in the room. Jimin seemed to be a bit uncomfortable. But then Jin, probably to ease the situation, stated that why would a siren leave him if she had called out for him, for the sirens always kill their prey.
During this whole course of two months, many things took place but at the same time it remained uneventful. The seven lives fell into their own routines. One positive change occured, although. Jimin started to spend his weekends at his friends' houses, who accepted him more than happily. It started with Yoongi's place. The day Jimin visited his house, the elder Min couple who were vampires (like Yoongi) were so welcoming that it overwhelmed Jimin for a second. When Yoongi informed them about his condition at home, Mrs Min at once told Jimin to move in with them. Mr Min spent the whole time telling embarassing stories from Yoongi's childhood that at one point Jimin found Yoongi screaming with his mouth stuffed in a cushion.
'And you know what? When he was around six and his canines were sharpening, he could buy balloons and pop them with his canines, deliberately. That was his play for childhood', as Mr Min had narrated another incident from Yoongi's childhood.
Jimin couldn't hold make his laught, not that he wanted to either.
Then came the turn for Taehyung's house. As Mr Kim was already aware of the problems Jimin faced at his household, when he heard that Jimin was spending the weekend with them, he himself had gone to pick the boy up. The environment there was quiet and pleasant. It was the relaxation one seeks after a day of hustle.
And that was when he had his trip to Jungkook's house too. Although Jungkook's parents didn't live with him, there was a little companion, cheerful twenty-four by seven. Ara was really fascinated by Jimin's morphagus abilities. Her eyes went wide when he morphed himself into a rabbit. The shifting took a good amount of energy, so he didn't morph very often but he needed his practice. He even promised her to teach her a few dance steps during her holidays.
'Jimin-ie isn't it fun being a mor- mor...', the little girl struggled to get the word right.
'Morphagus', Jungkook corrected her. 'See, you quarrel with me for calling you a kiddo but you can't get the word right'.
Ara turned to Jungkook and said,'Focus on your div- division essay'.
'Divination', Jungkook corrected once again. 'You see my point now', he said to Jimin, nodding his head like some intellectual. But his attitude was crushed once the girl had jumped on him, trying to box him out. Jimin had great fun with the sibling duo.
Jimin was invited to Hoseok's house as well, but he knew that the weekends were the only days that Hoseok and Iseul get to spend together. Even though Hoseok assured him, he didn't want to become a third wheel in them and decided to spend the day somewhere else.
When Jimin went to Namjoon's house, the visit was a bit different from other houses. It was much more quiet but they had welcomed him wholeheartedly, and that's what mattered him. It all ended with a day spent at Jin's. Jin was an orphan and lived with his grandmother. She was an elderly, cheerful woman who had provided, not just Jimin, but all the other boys with a whole stock of cookies for the next two weeks. He had the least interaction with Mr and Mrs Park. And for that he was quite grateful.
And now after these many days, they all had returned to their shells, for the mid-term exams in the University were nearing. Jungkook had asked Taehyung to help him study. But at the exchange of supply of any book that Taehyung needed. And Jungkook had to agree, for he had no choice. Transfiguration, potion making and identification, divination - which this time was going to be done through the crystal ball, were never a problem. But he needed a little help with elements and a lot of it with arithmancy. The history of supernatural civilizations wasn't considered a subject anymore. It was way too easy to remember and there were way many folktales for them to find out the correct answer. So, at the end it was cornered.
When Taehyung had agreed to teach Jungkook, he had known the scenario that was going to show itself during during those sessions. The study sessions contained fifty percent of Taehyung teaching Jungkook, or atleast trying to; and the others of Jungkook banging his head of Taehyung's knee, acting to faint when the numbers grew too complicated or when Taehyung presented a fact about his own element that he had no idea about.
The day before their exams started was a Sunday, and Jungkook had offered Taehyung a sleepover at his place. It seemed like a good idea for Mr Kim had his night duty that day, and both the boys could leave for the University at the same time. Jungkook had already informed Ara that they were going to study for exams, and as an understanding child she didn't disturb them for one moment. At times, Ara would climb the bed where Jungkook and Taehyung sat with several books laid out. At times she tried to peer into the arithmancy book, but when the numbers appeared difficult to Jungkook, it was all a gibberish to the little girl.
As they both were seated on Jungkook's large bed, he noticed that Taehyung's mind drifted off to somewhere more than often. It was a rare sight to see - Taehyung getting absent minded.
'What is it Tae?', Jungkook finally asked, wanting to share any problems his best friend could be having.
Taehyung looked at him for a second. He seemed to be thinking something before he let out a sigh and said, 'Nothing'.
'I know there's something bothering you Tae. Tell me what is it', Jungkook stuck to his concern.
'I don't know how to explain ', Taehyung started, his forehead displaying a deep frown. 'It's a feeling in my chest. It feels something is going to be wrong, something isn't too well. Something-', but he was cut off by a sudden sound from outside.
Jungkook lifted himself a little to look out of the window. It had started raining heavily, and completely out of the blue. But again, rains were all too common in Ravedawn. He just wished that they didn't have to face the violence of the rain when they would be leaving to give the exams. When Jungkook shifted his focus towards Taehyung, who was still adoring the frown. Jungkook put his two finger on Taehyung's forehead, straightening the lines formed in his forehead.
'Don't you now worry Tae. Probably it's just the exams', Jungkook said.
'But Kook I've never felt this nervous before any exam. Not even during the entrance exam for University, nor a single time during our first year'.
Jungkook knew that was true. Taehyung was never scared of exams. Since the kindergarten till the final terms of their first year, Taehyung had always been confident about his papers. When other students worried how much they will score, Jungkook saw him calculating his own grades; and most of the time he obtained grades much more than was anticipated. The sudden emergence of the fear or nervousness or whatever it was made Jungkook a little worried too. He thought for a while and spoke, 'You know what let's wrap this all up. We've been studying for so long, maybe we should sleep now'.
Taehyung agreed to him and said, 'You're right, probably it's all exhaustion'.
They took their time packing their books. It was settled that Taehyung was not going to provide Jungkook any help during the exams. But Jungkook knew he was going to help him at the end. He won't survive the Jeon-puppy eyes attack. And moreover, Taehyung always gave in to him.
'Are you going to take the guestroom?', Jungkook asked Taehyung.
'Yeah. I thought we would be more comfortable', Taehyung replied. He now packed his books, but they were so many that he had to divide them into two parts before carrying them.
'Tae you know the bed is large enough for us', Jungkook replied.
Taehyung still insisted on sleeping in other room. He was going to wake up earlier and might be nuisance to Jungkook's beloved sleep. But Jungkook, who knew Taehyung's sleeping habits as well as he knew his own, rolled his eyes.
The boys soon drifted off to sleep, the rain blocking any of the sounds from outside. They slept with the thought and anticipation of tomorrow being an important day of their life; but what they didn't know was that there was something more than the exams that the fate had decided for them.
.
The morning came after the night as it always does, but something about it was wrong. Taehyung didn't like the Monday's morning at all, which rarely happened. The sky was decorated with clouds everywhere and there was no sun at all. Ravedawn had been the witness of many such mornings, especially after the nights of rain and thunder; but to Taehyung this morning carried something he had never felt before. The morning had a sort of stillness to it, a gloom as Taehyung honestly felt.
But curtsey to the thought of exams he didn't have much time to ponder over the weather.
As they both walked along their path to the University, they could see people gathered in groups at the streets. Murmurs and gossips were all over the area. This had appeared odd to Jungkook as well. Something must have happened out of place that they didn't know. The situations reminded Taehyung of the times when the case of missing siren was the hot cakes everywhere. And then when the siren was found dead, the newspaper had printed different versions of the same story throughout weeks.
'You reckon something happened?', Taehyung asked, eyeing his surroundings. Central Wing has always been a busy place, but today there seems to be a certain disturbance in the environment.
'Not that I know of. Didn't check the newspaper this morning', Jungkook replied.
That's when Jungkook had nudged Taehyung and pointed at the university gate. There appeared to be some kind of commotion near the building, but they weren't sure exactly what. The students did crowd the area during the exam mornings, but something was odd. There were a lot of other people except for the students. Taehyung and Jungkook fastened their steps. The worry of examination, by now, was brushed off their minds.
As soon as the two reached near the gate, they noticed that there were more other people than the students. They tried to push through the crowd, and when they reached a little closer to the front, Jungkook's arm was grabbed by Minjun.
'What's happening?', Jungkook asked, confused.
'The exams are cancelled', Minjun said. The worry and confusion in his voice was reciprocated by Jungkook and Taehyung. If the exams really were cancelled, then they would have been informed beforehand. And it was quite guessable that the decision was taken in the morning itself. Then it produced several possibilities of emergency, making the stress evident in the air.
'Mr Choi', Taehyung and Jungkook ran towards the University front. Mr Choi, Mr Hwang (their divination professor) and Mrs Day(their botany professor) were standing there.
'Is it true? The exams are cancelled?', Jungkook asked.
Mr Choi just nodded. A solemn look was cast over his face, the situation and the weather carried an unpleasant heaviness that it was now noticeable everywhere.
'But why?', Taehyung asked; though much calmer than Jungkook, he couldn't hide the confusion.
Mr Choi looked at his sides for a minute and took them a little sideways. When they reached the University ground, almost near the Greenhouse, he spoke, 'Look I am going to say it the way it is. I know you are going to find it out someway or the other, so it's better that I present you the correct information'.
Mr Choi took a deep breath and started, 'Today morning the decision to cancel the exams was taken. Do you know about Mayhare?'
'The village after the lake outside Ravedawn?', Taehyung asked.
'Yes', Mr Choi answered. 'Today morning all the citizens of Mayhare have been found dead. Each and every one.'
The air around them grew tight for a few moments. All the citizens are dead? Of a whole village? In one night? These many questions clouded over the minds of both the young boys, but they could barely speak a word.
'That's probably not the worst part' Mr Choi seemed to be a little uncomfortable. 'Two of our students belonged to the village as well. They stay in the dormitories as it's difficult for them to travel such distance every weekend. Just think, going orphaned in the course of a night'.
'Two of our students?', Taehyung's voice was hushed.
'Yes. A first and a fourth year. And calling attention to such state of emergency, our exams have been dissolved. But you must stay in the university. There could be more attacks in the future. And if so happens, the University is the safest place for everyone'.
'How are the students?', Taehyung asked.
Mr Choi gave out another sigh. 'The first year student has been sent to the hospital. She couldn't take the shock. The fourth is in the office. Inconsolable. The principal is speaking to him, or atleast trying to. Your father, Sir Minister and Madam Lee is there as well'.
Jungkook had chosen silence through the whole conversation, letting his mind linger around somewhere else : Ara. If there was to be a situation of emergency and if the university was really the safest place, then was going to bring Ara with him to his dormitory. No rules were more important to him than his little sister.
He was brought out of the thought process by Mr Choi, who has gently placed his hand on Jungkook's shoulder. When Jungkook looked up, he was met with a warm and comforting smile, as if he could see what Jungkook was thinking.
'We will now leave Mr Choi', Jungkook said with a bow. Taehyung too bowed at his teacher and went towards their dormitory.
'Can't believe this', Jungkook's disbelief about the situation was quite evident in his voice.
Taehyung's eyes were attracted by the other five who have seated themselves in chairs outside Jimin's dormitory, two dorms afar from their's.
Hoseok was the first to notice the two as he gave them a wave. Once approached, Taehyung and Jungkook could feel tension around them, heaviness still clung to the air. Jimin and Jin looked quite disturbed by the events. Yoongi as usual, held a stotic expression.
'When did you all get to know about all this?', Taehyung asked
'This morning. Mrs Day told Namjoon and then we all got to know', Hoseok replied.
'Why are we always the last ones to know everything?', Jungkook questioned, turning to Taehyung.
But Taehyung didn't gave him any reply, as if he didn't hear him.
'Do you know who are the students who ... you know', Taehyung looked at unease. He didn't know why, but calling someone "orphaned" kind of made his stomach sick.
'The fourth year boy is Danny – Kim Daniel. We had necromancy together. Yesterday he was telling me that he was going to visit his family after the exams end, and when I heard about this in the morning', Jin paused to take a sigh, 'I don't know if I'm more sorrowed or terrified'.
'Both', Jimin said in tiny.
'The first year?', Jungkook asked.
'We don't know her. But from what Mrs Day told me she's in a really bad state', Namjoon replied.
'Have you all noticed something?', Yoongi finally spoke.
'What?', they all asked together.
'Yesterday's rain', Yoongi said. His expression suddenly hard and his eyebrows raised in a questioning manner.
'What about the rain hyung? Rain in Ravedawn is like all of us breathing air', said Jimin.
'Not the rain but the timing. Didn't you notice how it started so abruptly and stopped right after an hour of midnight. Didn't the department officials say the killings were right after the midnight's hour', Yoongi pointed out.
Jungkook at once remembered the sudden downpour that occured the previous night. Although he was unsure when the rain stopped, for they slept early; the roads were relatively dry than they would have been if the rain continued whole night long. But the timings could be a coincidence.
There were no classes the whole day. But as one might expect the environment to be cheerful and merry upon the sudden dismissal of classes, a very haunting stillness lay across the whole campus. Two students were orphaned and family-less in just one night. Around a hundred people who populated a functioning village were dead. And there is no trace of the killer, but all that was found were blood drenched, lifeless bodies of the citizens.

.
Too many things happened at once for Jungkook to grasp his mind around it. He found himself in an enclosed space, a dim light reflected against the walls ; though he was unsure about where the light came from. The last thing he remembers is being in his room in the dormitory.
There was an uneasy vibration in the air, one that makes your nerves twist and the stomach churns backwards. Jungkook tried to find someone when his eyes were suddenly set on a disheveled figure across the room. The darkness made it difficult for him, but he tried to get the outline of the man by squinting his eyes. At that moment a laugh resonated around the room. A laugh so broken and shrill, enough to make anyone's blood change into ice.
Jungkook could neither move his feet nor his eyes. With the dark figure becoming clearer, Jungkook's mind flashing the memories of the previous dreadful nightmare; somewhat similar to this one. As the figure came clean to his vision, he recognised it to be the same tall inhumanly creature that he witnessed before, except it looked kind of crooked. But the haunting sensations it produced in Jungkook's heart were the same, if not lessened.
As the hoarse laugh came to a halt, he noticed the creature put up a finger pointing at the his backside. Reluctantly he turned around only to find numerous people standing behind him. He frowned at the sudden discovery of the ample presence behind him.
The shrill laugh was once again heard. A sudden and unknown light illuminated the surroundings. The enclosed and suffocated space now seemed to be somewhere open as a chilly wind brush against Jungkook skin. The hazy outlines of the many people were finally clear to his vision. Jungkook widened his eyes at the sight before him. The people were all drenched in blood, their eyes were blank and lifeless but still there seemed to be a sense of anger in their expression.
And in the next second Jungkook found himself being charged at by all those people. He tried to run away by turning behind, where there seemed to be a path before; but now all there was a cliff that opened his mouth to swallow the life of the boy, as Jungkook fell into it. As he saw himself falling to death, he couldn't stop himself from screaming a plea for help.
Taehyung sat by himself on the couch that was placed in the sizeable living room of his dormitory. His mind was abuzz the whole day and there's nothing he could have been to make his mind concentrate on a particular task. His mind kept on reminding himself the morning incident. So many innocent lives were gone and two innocent lives were cursed. He could hardly imagine the sorrow the two students would be feeling every minute and every hour of their life; a life full of grief, loss and loneliness.
Taehyung knew what loss felt. The moments when your stomach feels sick and your heart yearns for the
