IF ONLY...
COULD'VE BEEN...
(Etong story ay nabasa ko di ko gawa .. acknowledgment sa nagsulat neto :))
Six months have passed since Jorge has started replying to Jess' text messages. They have exchanged questions and answers which was very usual on their part since they're just new to each other (although they were schoolmates in high school).
Jess is a shy girl that's why every time they decided to meet personally, she talks less than she does in texting. Aside from fact, Jess has a crush on Jorge and it's her norm to be awkward and conscious of her appearance every time she's with her crush.
On the other hand, Jorge tries his best to keep their conversation going but it seems that he was infected by Jess' presence.
In their 3 years of texting, their relationship starts to grow deeper- from text mates to friends; they get closer and closer until they have finally fallen for each other. They started to share quotes, problems and advices, good moods and bad days, their stories. As well as the things they don't like with each other.
It is only at this time when cloud finally realizes when to say that she's already in love with him- when she's starting to care truly and be concerned with him.
Jorge has just broken up with girlfriend four months ago. He's afraid to fall in love again for in all of his past relationships, he is the one who is always fooled by women. Jess doesn't have a boyfriend ever since. She's scared to fall in and out of love because of tragic love stories she has been hearing from her friends.
He fears to be rejected by her because of their different status in life. She doubts her feelings for him for she thinks that she got to know him more.
Jorge started to send sweet nothing messages which Jess saved in her inbox. Jess sent quotes which are not only simple ideas but could also express what she feels for him. They have been doing this for a long time but they never grew tired of it.
Expect the unexpected! Jess' parents decided to send her to London with her auntie and take up nursing there. Jess hates to be forced to do things she doesn't want to do (including leaving the Philippines). But, a principle rules over her that as long as it's God's will, she'll do it. She told Jorge about it and a sudden feeling of sadness seemed to engulf him. He wanted to cry but he didn't want her to leave sadly.
Jess will leave tomorrow so she decided to meet with Jorge. She thought of giving him the letters she had written which she kept for six months. But, the time of her departure came and Jorge hasn't arrived yet. She felt so bad and she cried. She was about to tell Jorge of her true feelings for him then arrived.
IF SHE ONLY KNEW THAT THE TAXI JORGE WAS RIDING ON THAT DAY SHE DEPARTED LOST ITS BRAKE AND CRASHED ON A BUS... IF SHE
EXCEPT FOR JORGE.. IF SHE ONLY KNEW THAT HE DIDN'T LOOSE ANY PART OF HIS BODY EXCEPT FOR HIS MEMORY...
IF SHE ONLY KNEW THAT HE HAS FORGOTTEN EVERYTHING... IF SHE ONLY KNEW THAT NOW, HE'S ALREADY ENGAGED WITH HIS NEW GIRLFRIEND, BUT STILL, HE FEELS THAT SOMETHING IS MISSING.
If only courage overcame fear, she could have told him that she's the one who asked for Jorge's mobile number from a common friend; he could have proposed and courted her; he could have told her, "I love you. I'll wait for you." And she could have replied, "I love you too. I'll come back."
But now, they're just "If only" and "could have's". She has forced herself to forget everything. Fate forced him to forget everything.
Don't waste time. Don't wait until everything is over. It's better to seem like a fool and say, "I love you" to him/her than to regret a lifetime and say, "If only I we could have been..."
