5th Grade Field Trip:
They were going to an aquarium, and lots of these kids loved fish.
"Everyone, write your group of three to four on this piece of paper." The teacher instructed.
Y/N's group was the first one to be formed. Primarily because Zhongli wanted to stay with Y/N, Childe wanted to be with Zhongli. And Xiao wanted to be with Zhongli and Y/N.
That was their usual group, anyway. Like during lunchtime and recess.
Zhongli was the shy kind of kid. Childe was the doting lover boy. Xiao was the glaring, tsundere child. And Y/N was the one with all of the jokes, and chaotic one once you get to know her.
The seats, were the two per one seat kind of bus.
"Xiao! Wanna sit with me?" Y/N grabbed his hand, with a grin on her small face.
"Yes..." Xiao looked somewhere else, because her smile was always contagious. And his pride wouldn't let him smile.
Y/N ran into the bus, and the two tried their best to go up those small stairs. And Y/N wanted to go to the very back so she could just look at the cars passing by.
And of course, Zhongli and Childe were right behind them, and sat in the seat next to theirs.
"Mom made Zhongli and I almond tofu. And made some for you too! We can share it!" Y/N raised her lunchbox and put it back in her backpack. Her smile never faltered.
Xiao turned his head to her quickly, with such a cute look on his face. That was the only true thing that made him happy. Every. Single. Time.
The entire class was singing little Einstein songs, and Hu Tao's favorite hilichurls song.
Xiao plugged in his earbuds. And saw Y/N peeking glances at him. She thought she was being sneaky, but Xiao could tell. Those were new earbuds so they weren't used yet.
"Do you want to listen?" He offered the other side.
"Can I?" Y/N got her answer when Xiao nodded shortly after. He wasn't known for being very nice to people. But truly he had favorites.
He more or less liked to stick to Zhongli. But he's the most nicest to Y/N. He's never glared as much as he did to the other kids. And never ignored her. The teachers really liked seeing Xiao with the only person who he didn't attack.
One time Y/N was crying after falling and scratching her knee a little too harshly on the cement. And Xiao blasted towards the classroom and asked the teacher for a bandaid. And sprinted back to Y/N, as fast as his little legs could take him. Although, he's the fastest at running in the entire class.
She was in need of a pencil, and Xiao glared at the other boys who were gonna offer her one.
Y/N was reading a random book her bookworm child neighbor had recommended her own time.
While Xiao clutched his Rex Lapis dragon plushie.
Soon enough, she fell asleep. While the entire bus was yelling songs. And debating wether or not Ganyu would win against Elsa.
But it was all calmed down once they made it to the aquarium.
There was just a huge group of fifth graders, and 4 chaperones/teachers watching the kids. Making sure they either don't wander off, get lost and etc.
Y/N's group was headed to the giant fish tunnel. She ran to the walls, and saw a starfish stuck to the side.
"Is that a salmon?" Y/N asked, tilting her head.
Childe squinted his eyes trying to see what she was looking at. While Zhongli and Xiao were looking at the larger fishes.
"I don't know. It looks like a tuna." Childe said again.
"Wait. What's a salmon again? Is it cute?"
"Food— I mean—" Childe stuttered, and thought of a different excuse. "A FISH."
"I wanna go see the dolphin show." Zhongli mumbled next to Y/N.
"Then we should ask the teacher!" Y/N held Zhongli's hand so they wouldn't separate. Childe held Zhongli's other hand. And Y/N grabbed Xiao's hand, as they formed their own invincible human line.
Y/N pulled Zhongli and Xiao as she went to the teacher.
And after asking the dolphin show was after lunch. And Y/N suggested we had lunch immediately. And the teacher had to retort that they had to wait until after 12.
Their chain broke as Y/N let go of Zhongli's hand, and dragged Xiao with her. Losing sight of the other groups.
"Y/N I think we went too far down. The teacher is still back there." Xiao pointed.
"But I want to see the penguins." She pointed as well.
Xiao looked elsewhere searching for the teacher, and didn't realize Y/N had wandered towards the penguin section.
Y/N stared intensely at them. And couldn't help but want one.
"Do you like penguins?" The man looked sus.
"I do. But I like Xiao more." She answered truthfully. Xiao was out of earshot and couldn't hear anything. He didn't even notice Y/N was talking to a stranger. A basic rule to not do that.
"I can show you where the other penguins are." He held out a hand. And Y/N didn't bother to hold it.
"Really? Could you tell me?"
"You'll get lost, if you do. So I'll show you."
"Hmmm." Y/N hummed suspiciously. She felt her hair tugged and her head leaned backwards. "Ow." She turned around to see Xiao calmly staring at her.
"Y/N I found the Childe and Zhongli along with the teacher and others." He held the hand that she was caressing her hair with, making her turn her entire body towards his own. So she couldn't really see Xiao glaring at the man.
He scared him a little, and took that time to walk away.
"You can't talk to strangers Y/N what if he's a kidnapper. Or a murderer."
"Oh..."
"I wouldn't be able to face Zhongli if I were to ever lose you. Nor any of your family."
"Huh? Why's that?"
"Because it's my job to protect you." Xiao said with confidence, but realizing what he just said, he felt his face get warm and red.
"But I don't need to be protected. I can protect myself." She huffed. And Xiao was glad she didn't tease him about him saying that.
"Then my job as your yaksha would not suffice." Xiao was often the yaksha. Meant to protect. And Xiao only agreed because his job was to protect Y/N. Like a hero of sorts.
"Hehe. You really like your yaksha role, Xiao."
"N— no I don't."
"But you—"
"There's Zhongli and Childe." Xiao interrupted trying to change the topic.
"Where did you two go?" Childe asked.
"We went down the hallway." Y/N answered first.
"You didn't get into trouble did you?" Zhongli asked next.
"Nope! Because Xiao was there, and he protected me!" Xiao turned his head the other way. Avoiding the small smirk Zhongli and Childe gave him. His cheeks blushing again.
"Is that so? Xiao protected you?" The other two boys said at the same time. With a very teasing tone.
Y/N looked at Xiao confused.
"Why's your face red?"
"Yeah. Why is your face red?" Childe poked Xiao's cheek, grinning.
"L— leave me alone." He glared. But his flustered face didn't seem very intimidating. He wouldn't admit he would have protected
Y/N as much as he could and whatever it took.
A/N: Hellooooo again. I haven't wrote in this story since I posted the new book announcement. I wanted some cute wholesomeness, and decided to elaborate on the 5th grade field trip that was mentioned in the epilogue.
And if I ever forget, plz remind me.
If any of you guys are wondering, I came across a beautiful Dazai video. And used the "Abadadad—" scene for chapter 四. And if you guys ever noticed, I also used Kageyama's dub scene somewhere as well. For the part when Xiao wasn't using a spoon to mix the ingredients.
I used a few references, haha. XD
{FYI, I was watching the Tuonto and Bwaap collab stream on Twitch while writing this.}
Bye! Until next time Xiao simps!! ❤️
