He leaned back. "Wanna tell me what happened?".

"We were picking up sam's prescription" deena started, messing with her hands nervous.

"All the lights were out it was pitch black, we couldn't really see anything"

"We ducked behind a counter, and we hid until it was over"

"How did you get that?" He asked pointing towards the cut on her hand.

"I fell on some glass" she lied hiding it with her sweater.

He nodded. "I'll tell you what the facts tell me"

"The junkies- kate and simon?" Deena corrected cutting him off.

"They're to blame for everything that feels too easy to me, but that's the story this department will go with"

"And as for julia, she's just another innocent bystander"

"Unless you can help me to see it differently"

Deena let a shaky breath out "Another shadyside tragedy"

"An underprivileged overachiever with bright prospects, a guy who's been supporting his family alone since he was fifteen both succumbing to the quick cash of drugs, a girl who just wanted to escape her abusive home tragically murdered" she scoffed.

"Fits the narrative right?" She exhaled.

"Nice and neat" she shrugged

"Do you really want your friends going down for this?"

"No. But they're dead"
