Poe's POV:
Five months
I wake to the sound of footsteps, I look up to see that Rey is not sleeping. I slowly sit up and look around, I see a light on in the other room so I get up and walk over there, waking up more and more as I walk. As I open the door, the light blinds me before I see Rey pacing back and forth, holding her stomach. I walk up to her and grab her hand, she jumps back then looks in my eyes.
"Rey? Whats wrong?" I ask
"I, I dunno." she says in a worried voice.
"Well, if you don't know what it is, then tell me what's been happening." I say.
"It's like butterflies in my stomach, and twitches in my stomach." She says
There is a moment of science as I try and think of what she's saying.
"Here, you feel it." She says putting my hand on her stomach.
For a moment I don't feel anything, as I wait for something to happen. I feel a small flutter hit my hand.
"There, did you feel that?" Rey says looking at me.
"Yea, I did." I say looking at her, my eyebrows furrow.
"Wha, What is it?" Rey says
My mind goes back to my childhood. I remember my parents talking about when my mom was pregnant with me.
"Yeah you were such a kicker." My mom says.
"I could feel you out of your moms stomach, that's the day I knew you were going to be a fighter." My dad says to me as I snap back into reality.
"Poe, Poe! Poe are you there?" Rey says.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm here." I say look at her.
"What do you think it is? Is there something wrong with the baby?" She asks a concerned look on her face.
"No I don't think there's something wrong, how many weeks has it been?" I ask
"Twenty" she says automatically.
"I think it's just the baby kicking." I say
"When is that supposed to start though?" She says
"Around twenty weeks I think which is where we're at right now." I say tucking a piece of hair behind her ear.
She soon relaxes, taking deep breath.
"Okay. Yeah I think your right." She says
"Okay, you should go back to bed, your need sleep hun." I say as we walk back to the bed.
She lays down, getting comfortable again.
"I love you." She says grabbing my hand.
"I love both of you." I say putting hand over her stomach. Before falling asleep.
•••
"Damn it!" And something clatter on the ground. Is the first thing I hear when I wake up.
"Hey, Rey? You okay?" I say sitting up and stretching.
"Yeah, I just dropped another spoon." She says in a annoyed tone.
"Do you need any help?" I say walking to her.
"No, no I'm almost done." She says
"Okay. Just say if you need anything." I say.
A few seconds I hear a combination of a roar and buzz sound. I remember that sound, she must be making sandwich.
"What kind of sandwich are you making." I ask walking into the kitchen.
"A protein sandwich." She says putting bread on a plate.
"In the morning?" I say
"Well I've been craving it all night, so mise well eat it. If you know what I'm saying." She says smiling at me.
"If you say so." I say sitting down with a bowl of cereal.
She soon sits down next to me, biting into her sandwich.
"Woah, baby likes that." Rey says putting a hand on her stomach.
I chuckle then continuing to eat my breakfast. There is silence as we finish our breakfast. When I'm done I put the bowl on the counter and change into old clothes. Walking back in I tell Rey.
"Hey so I thought today we could, paint the room." I say.
"More like I do a little bit and you do the rest." Rey says smiling at me.
"Well if you want to put it that way then sure." I say grinning at her.
"I'll start and you join me when your ready." I say not want to waste time.
"Okayyy." Rey says walking into the bedroom.
I open the paint can, and dipping a brush in it. I take a deep breath before spreading it on the walls, I get about half way done with the wall when Rey walks in.
"Wow that looks cute." She says picking up a brush as well.
As I'm painting I realize how close we are to having a baby. Four months is all we have to prepare, will we be ready? I take a deep breath, dipping my brush to get more paint. Soon we have one and about a half walls done.
"Poe, I think I'm gonna have to quit for a while. My ankles are really hurting." She says
"That's fine, take all the time you need." I say giving her a warm smile.
"Okay." She says walking out with a hand supporting her back.
I finish the third wall in a matter to minutes. Now there's only the big wall left, gratefully Rey came back in and helped me finish. After we're done we look back at our almost completed baby room. She sighs and puts her head on my shoulder.
"It's only a matter of time." She says smiling.
