*for the purposes of this one shot , Spencer will be only a year younger than everyone else*

Emily Prentiss had never been a fan of new schools. In fact, she couldn't remember the last time she actually enjoyed being at school. Even though no one her age actually enjoyed school, she disliked it for a completely different reason.

Although this school didn't seem quite as bad. Fairfax, Virginia wasn't too bad either. It fell about in the middle of all the places Emily had previously lived, and that's saying a lot. At least Emily had some friends. In the two months she'd been at school, she managed to make a few friends.

JJ was the first friend she made. She was kind and quiet sometimes. She was a little shorter than Emily, and she had bright blonde hair and blue eyes. Penelope was another story however. She dressed in bright, floral outfits and wore glasses. She was very outspoken and talkative. She was the complete opposite of Emily, but they somehow just clicked. And then there was Derek Morgan. He was a flirt to say the least. Although he was everything any girl wanted; he was tall, fit, handsome, and a smooth talker; Emily could see right through his facade.

Emily remembered the day she met Derek. He had hit on her in their calculus class and immediately asked for her number. She blatantly replied "no", and they had had a somewhat platonic friendship ever since. But not nearly as platonic as the friendship between Penelope and Derek. Apparently they had been friends since the beginning of high school, but despite their constant flirting, they were purely friends.

Emily was home alone. She would be for the next three months. Despite her past reputation at schools, she had never considered having a party at her house. She wasn't the biggest people person, which was the one thing her mother could trust her with. She usually just wondered around the house and blared music.

Emily work up around 7:30 to the sun beaming through her curtains. She slowly got up and walked into her closet. She quickly got dressed in a pair of black cargo pants and a black tank top crop top. She paired it with a chain belt and her gold cross necklace she always wore. She quickly threw on a pair of socks and black Doc Martens. After making herself breakfast, she drove to school, hoping that the day wouldn't bring too much trouble.

After a quiet ten minute drive, Emily managed to find her friends in the crowded hallway. "Hey, Princess." Derek said in a slightly seductive tone.

I rolled my eyes at him and scoffed. "Hi Derek." I replied in a condescending tone.

"So where's your mom this month?" JJ asked as we began walking down the hall.

"Morocco I think." Emily shrugged. "I honestly don't even notice when she's gone anymore."

"Oh, Emily!" Penelope chimed in with a saddened voice. "That sounds awful. You know you can always stay with me and my family."

"Thanks for the offer, Penelope. But I'm fine. Really." Emily replied.

"Ok well you just call if you ever want to come over!"

    "I will."

Suddenly Penelope sparked up. This was normal for her, but both there was nothing normal about Penelope to begin with. "Ooh! Guess what?" She asked happily.

"What?" Emily asked with a smirk.

"I found this guy I really think you'll like! His name is Sebastian, and he's in my computer science class. And he—"

"Nope. Sorry." Emily cut Penelope off. "I already don't like him."

Penelope almost stopped dead in her tracks. "What? Why? You didn't even let me finish."

"His name. It's so..." Emily trailed off. "Pretentious ."

"So? You grew up as an ambassador's daughter." JJ commented.

"Exactly! You think I want to date some like me?" Emily asked with a raised eyebrow.

   "But, but..." Penelope said desperately.

Morgan put a hand on her shoulder. "Baby girl. You gotta stop trying to step Emily up with every guy you know." Derek said shaking his head.

"But I just want Emily to be happy." Penelope replied with puppy eyes.

"Penelope, I really appreciate you trying to make me happy, but you guys are all I ne--"

Emily was promptly cut off by a broad shoulder forcefully bumping into her. She turned around to see who had bumped into her. She saw a tall guy with short, dark brown hair walking away. "Watch where you're going, asshole." She shouted down the hall.

    "Bitch." She heard him murmur.

This set Emily off. JJ had heard what the guy had said under his breath, and this situation would end in two ways: With the guy on the ground or with Emily in the principal's office. Hopefully it was the ladder. "Excuse me!?" The raven haired girl exclaimed with a furrowed brow.

"Oh no." JJ said massaging the bridge of her nose. JJ quickly walked up to Emily, placing her hand on her shoulder. "Em, don't."

Emily let out an annoyed sigh before turning back towards JJ. "I wasn't going to hurt him. I was just going to talk to him."

"Bullshit." Derek said. "Last time you said that, the guy ended up with a broken nose, and you were suspended for two days."

"He slapped my ass." Emily defended.

"Fair enough." Derek shrugged. "Lets get to class before anything bad happens."
———————————
Emily and Morgan were sitting in the international politics class, listening to their teacher lecture about a project she was assigning them. "I'll be assigning partners for the project. Don't ask me if you can change because I won't." Their teacher said.

Emily looked over at Derek who was sitting next to her and rolled her eyes. Derek shrugged. "It is what it is, Princess." Derek whispered with a shrug.

"Stop calling me that." Emily hissed jokingly. She thought the nickname was endearing, but she would never admit admit that to Derek

    "You love it." He winked.

Emily chuckled before turning her attention back towards the front. "Ms. Prentiss," the teacher announced. "Your partner is Mr. Hotchner."

Emily simply nodded in response and gave her teacher a flat smile. After all the partners were assigned, Emily was pointed into the direction of "Mr. Hotchner" as her teacher put it. She was on her phone when she approached her partner's desk. "Are you Aaron?" She asked not looking up.

As Emily looked up, she was met with a pair of serious dark brown eyes. She gave him a flat smile. She watched his expression turn from curious to almost horrified. "You!" He hissed, trying not to be too loud.

Emily raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms. "Excuse me?" She asked. Then it hit Emily like a truck. She was standing in front of the guy who she almost punched. "Oh my god! It's you. You're the asshole who ran into me."

Aaron let out a scoff. "It was an accident." He said coldly.

"Yeah right. You could've at least apologized."

"You didn't have to be so mean."

Emily scoffed and roller her eyes. "Whatever. Let's just figure out what we want to do for the project."
———————————
Emily met Aaron at his house to work on their project. They chose to do international public relations between the U.S. and Spain, France, Russia, and the Middle East. A lot of their resources were in those foreign languages which worked out well for Emily. "I can translate the Spanish." Aaron said looking at his computer.

"Ok. I can do the rest." Emily said simply. The two of them were sitting in Aaron's living room, Emily in arm chair and Aaron on the couch. Both of them were focusing on their computers, not wanting to talk to each other unless it was specifically about the project.

Aaron looked up from his computer with a slightly confused look on his face. Emily looked up to meet his perplexed expression. "What?" She asked.

"You can read French?" He asked.

"Yeah. I'm in AP French right now."

    "What about the other languages?"

"I'm fluent in all of them."

    "Why's that?"

Emily let out a long sigh and closed her laptop slightly to move it out of the way. She pushed a piece of her dark brown hair out of her face. "If you really want to know, I moved around a lot as a kid." She said not meeting his eyes.

"You're an army brat." He said in a matter of fact tone.

"Nice of you to just assume something about me, considering you know nothing about me." She said sarcastically.

"I just assumed because kids who move around as much as you do are usually army brats."

Emily rolled her eyes again. "My mom is a U.S. ambassadress, and her jobs required us to move around a lot."

"That explains why you're so cold." Aaron said under his breath.

Emily snapped. She slammed her laptop shut and shoved it into her bag. She threw it over her shoulder and began walking out. "Hey!" Aaron shouted after her, following her down the hall. "Where are you going?"

Emily turned around furiously; her face red with anger. "God, are you really that stupid?!" She shouted. "You know nothing about me! You have no right to make any assumptions about me!"

Aaron didn't say anything. "I'll share the project with you when I get home." Emily said before slamming the door behind her.
———————————
It had been a few days since Emily and Aaron's argument. They would only speak to each other when absolutely necessary about the project, but beyond that, they never worked together. Aaron had felt guilty about what he'd said to Emily but he was too stubborn and proud to admit that what he said was wrong aloud to anyone.

During passing period one day, Aaron is walking to AP U.S. government with his friends David (Dave) Rossi and Spencer Reid. Aaron was staring blankly ahead while David and Spencer were talking. Aaron's distancing caught David's eye. "Aaron." David said trying to get his friend's attention. Aaron didn't acknowledge him. "Aaron!" David said louder.

    "What?" Aaron finally asked.

"What's wrong with you? You've been acting more closed off than usual."

    "Nothing's wrong."

"You're lying. When someone lies, they typically shows signs of distress and anxiety. You, specially, have a certain tell that indicates when you're lying. You're eyebrows furrow more and your ears turn red." Spencer chimed in.

David elbowed Spencer in the arm slightly. "He's right, Aaron. You haven't been yourself. Tell us what's up. And don't lie."

Aaron let out a long, slightly annoyed sigh. "I'm partnered with Emily Prentiss on this project and--" Aaron began but was quickly cut off by David.

"Hold on. You're partnered with Emily Prentiss?" He asked surprised.

"Yes. Why is that so surprising?"

"Let me guess. You tried to interrogate her about her childhood, and you said something stupid to set her off?"

    "How'd you know?"

"I know women, Aaron. And apparently a lot better than you do."

"How was I supposed to know her past. She never says anything."

"And you somehow expect her to open up to you? She probably hates you now." Spencer said in his usual tone.

Aaron rolled his eyes and turned his attention back towards Dave. "What am I supposed to do? We're working on a project together. I don't want things to be awkward between us." Aaron said scratching his head.

"A little too late for that." Spencer said as he read a book.

Aaron shot daggers in Spencer's direction but he didn't seem to notice. "Dave come on. Help me out."

"She was right. You are oblivious." Dave shook his head.

"Y-you talked to her?" Aaron asked surprised.

"No, but her friend, Penelope told me everything. Great girl, but she can't keep a secret to save her life. But that's beside the point. You need to apologize to Emily. It's the least you can do. She's been through a lot. She doesn't need one more thing to worry about."

Aaron let out a heavy sigh before letting his head hang. He couldn't respond out of embarrassment; all he could do was nod.

-----------------------------

Emily was walking around her rather large house listening to music while eating an apple. She was clad in a pair of grey sweatpants and short, red crop tank top. Her hair was slightly curled from the day before and was slightly messy. As we walked through the kitchen, she saw a navy blue sedan pull into her driveway. She watched as a tall man with dark brown hair get out of the car. As the man turned around, Emily realized that it was Aaron. "What the hell?" Emily said with a furrowed brow. She turned off the music, and slowly made her way to the door.

The doorbell rang, and as Emily reached grabbed he handle, she hesitated. She took a deep breath and opened the door. Aaron stood before her in a pair of jeans, a plain white t-shirt and a yellow and black flannel. He had his hands in his pockets and shyly looked at Emily. Emily put her hand on her hip as she held the door with her other hand.  "What are you doing here, Aaron?" She asked in an annoyed tone.

"Can I come in?" He asked simply.

Emily let out a sigh before moving aside, letting Aaron through the door. As Emily closed the door behind her, she walked to the living room with Aaron behind her. He couldn't help but watch her. He watched her hips sway back and forth and her small waist move gracefully.

He cleared his throat as they entered the living room. Emily sat on the couch while Aaron sat in an arm chair across from her. "I'm not going to ask again: What are you doing here?" Emily asked in the same annoyed tone.

Aaron took a deep breath as he folded his hands in front of him. I looked down at his feet before finally meeting Emily's intense gaze. "I, uh, wanted to apologize for what I said a few days ago. I'm sorry, Emily. It was out of line, and I never should've judged you." Aaron said with a flat, yet sincere smile.

After a few moments of silence, Emily finally broke the silence. "I forgive you. But if you ever say anything like that to me again, I will seriously hurt you." Emily said in a serious tone.

Aaron gulped and nervously played with his hands. He looked up from his hands and saw that Emily had a smirk on his face. He smiled back at her with a twinkle in his eye. "Maybe Emily Prentiss wasn't so bad." Aaron thought.
