I liked my new apartment. George wasn't around too much so it was pretty much always empty and there was nothing that I couldn't do that I had done with Draco except for maybe talk to Draco but that was of no fault of the apartments.
The apartment was big, I could go around Diagon Alley whenever I wanted and I could do pretty much anything. It was all great.
Until I realised I rarely talked to anyone anymore. I didn't have many friends other than Draco but he had filled the need for more than one friend over all those years we were in the same Hogwarts house and all the years that we shared an apartment. I had never really required many friends outside of him.
But now with the wedding being so soon him and Astoria needed as much time as they could to plan it and he was doing everything with his best man, Blaise Zambini, which meant that I could hardly ever see him.
What surprised me was that Astoria hardly asked me to do anything even though I was supposed to be Maid of Honour. I guess she kind of regretted not giving it to a closer friend now that I've moved out but I'm sure she has a friend helping her to do everything.
As for George, well he tended to distract himself with work. It's not like we're really friends or anything so I probably shouldn't expect for him to come home early just to talk with me or to eat dinner with me but it would still be nice. I wish I could talk to someone but everyone that there was to talk to had something more important to do.
One morning I found myself waking up to multiple curses coming from the sitting room. I quickly got up to see what was going on, slipping on a pair of slippers and heading into the kitchen/dining room/sitting room area. I seen George pacing around the sitting room, a letter in his hand. I looked to him curiously as he continued to pace, not noticing me.
Eventually he lifted his head to see me standing there and jumped in shock. His hand went over his heart as he took a steady breathe, trying to get it beating normally again.
"Is something wrong?" I asked as he continued to look over the letter after calming himself down again. He just looks back up to me, biting his lip as he looks at the letter. "George?"
"Sorry, there's just a problem with the business and the house and everything," George told me, shaking his head. I kind of got worried when he mentioned the house. I was trying to think of whether he would be getting much money from his shop to even pay his part of the bill here. I mean, it could be quite expensive to pay for the shop on it's own and sales were steady but then again, they might not be bringing in enough.
"Do you need some help with something? Do you want to talk about it or...?" I trailed off, not sure whether or not this was really my business. I would hope he would tell me if I was being nosy but I really doubt he would. George is pretty sad all the time but he's rarely rude and if he is, he really doesn't intend it.
"I just need to figure out a way to increase my sales a bit. If I don't start selling more I'm not going to be able to pay for next months sales. I just need a way of getting a little more galleons in than usual and I should be fine then," he informed me. I nodded and held out my hand, motioning for him to give over the paper. He did so, looking to me curiously.
"Your problem with sales is that you're just selling the same stuff that every other joke shop sells. Which isn't too much of a problem but at the end of the day, you have a bigger shop that all the rest which means your products are going to be slightly more expensive and kids with only a few galleons notice that. What I think you should do is start creating your own stuff again," I told him as my eyes skimmed over the numbers on the sheet. He wouldn't be missing too much next month but even a small amount can make a massive dent as it begins to pile up.
"I don't make things anymore. I have no ideas. F-Fred was the genius between the both of us. He had the ideas and then we would both come up with a way to make it. Besides, I don't really want to make all the old stuff without him. It wouldn't be the same," George told me. I felt kind of bad but I didn't think George would appreciate me giving him a sorry look so I looked away.
"Listen, this is just my opinion. You don't have to listen to me if you don't want to. But what I recommend is best for your business, and you, is for you to start selling all of these things on your own. You need to do things without him George, learn that it's alright to do them without him. He's always going to be there but you're never going to remember the good times if you keep pretending that they didn't happen," I told him. I felt like maybe I was pushing a bit too much and from the sad look on his face, I think that he thought the same thing. I awkwardly cleared my throat and got up, nodding my head.
"Um... anyway, hope that helps. I might just head back to bed. I'll probably be late home tonight as well," I informed him before awkwardly retreating back to my room and burying myself in the blankets. I felt like such an idiot. I shouldn't of said anything. He's obviously not ready to hear that and especially coming from someone who barely knows him.
But I just want to help him. I want him to be George Weasley, twin of Fred Weasley again. I don't want to let him forget everything that they did together because they were such great people. They could bring a smile to your face even when some fat lady was terrorizing your school, spreading pink everywhere and giving commands from the ministry.
But I really should not of approached him, I kept thinking as I rolled around in my bed, regretting that entire conversation. Why had I done that? Gosh, Merlin kill me now. I am actually going to die.
I am a horrible, horrible person. I should be killed or something. No one actually deserves to have me in their life, I probably just screw up everyone's lives.
Eventually I convince myself that I should get out of bed and shower and put on a fresh set of robes. Today I have decided that I will help Astoria with some things for the wedding in hopes that it means Draco will have less to do and will be able to hang around with me more.
Of course, I can't really help out with anything on the groom's part but I can help out with stuff for the wedding in general. So after I finally get dressed, I find myself apparating to their apartment (and what used to be my own), knocking on the door to see if they needed me to help with anything for their wedding.
Astoria answered the door, rubbing her eyes as though it were early in the morning. She looked at me and gave me an apologetic glance.
"Sorry, Draco's left an hour or so ago to do something for the wedding venue. He won't be back for a while," she told me, looking very tired. I wondered why she wasn't helping with something as important as the wedding venue but I guessed she already planned where it was and everything.
"No, actually, I just came here as your Maid of Honour to ask if there were any jobs that I could do to help you guys out. I have decided that I would like to do something helpful for you guys so I came here since I really had nothing else planned for today," I informed her. She smiled at me and nodded, motioning for me to come in.
"I've actually taken today off since I haven't taken one off since the news of the wedding got out but it would actually be really helpful if you could do me a few jobs. I need someone to sort out the cake. Draco and I have decided exactly what we want the cake to be like but we don't know where to go. We just need anywhere that can do a good cake for the wedding. And then the other thing is with the seats. We need to get someone to drop in three hundred seats for the wedding. Now these can be done literally anytime but since you're looking for a few jobs I thought maybe you'd like to do them."
"I would, thanks. And I know the perfect place to get your cake done. My friend, Vince, owns this little bakery half way across the country but I swear it has to be the nicest place I have ever been. Everything in there is to die for!" I told her and she started grinning and nodding. Suddenly, as I see how pale she is I remember what I found the other day in her bin.
"Does he know?" I blurt out. She looks at me in surprise, curiosity taking over. "Sorry, I didn't mean to say that. But I kind of saw your pregnancy test in the bin when I was packing my stuff and... does Draco know you're pregnant?"
"Well... no but I actually decided after he comes home today that I should tell him. I got it confirmed and I have another appointment soon so I decided I should tell Draco quickly and before the wedding too," she told me. I nodded in understanding. So they weren't getting married because of the baby. "Can you just not mention it to him? I don't mind you knowing but I just want to tell him myself."
"No, of course. I'm sorry about blurting that out, gosh that was rude of me, but I just got kind of curious. Anyways, I better get going. I'll be back in a while when I've gotten all of this finished," I said, motioning towards the papers she had given me with the cake designs and chair numbers on them.
"Okay, well I'll see you soon then," Astoria told me with a smile. I nodded and left the apartment, apparating to my friend's bakery first. I looked at Vince as I arrived, giving him a smile and a sigh.
"Well if it isn't Iris Parkinson. Now what on earth has been going on with you that meant you only visit me like once a year now?" Vince asked me the moment he saw me. I just laughed and pulled him in for a hug.
"Oh, a lot has happened, Vince. We have a lot to talk about."
