The stars was on display in the roof above you. You and Nico were laying on your backs on his bed in cabin 13, your head was placed on his stomach and his hand was mindlessly playing with your hair. You had your arms raised above you, holding a book open and reading it softy out loud. Nico had his eyes closed and an almost invisible smile on his lips. His dark curls were splayed out under his head, creating a dark halo around his head. He'd taken off the usual jacket he used to wear and had replaced it with a simple gray hoodie. You'd stolen one of his black hoodies and buried yourself in it, just pulling it over your simple summer dress you were wearing, inhaling the scent of him. A few fairy lights were lit along the walls in the cabin, you'd insisted that you'd need at least a little bit of light in his cabin. The fairy lights gave a soft light and almost looked like stars so Nico had let you set them up around the otherwise dark cabin.
The world outside was grey. Heavy clouds hung over camp, Chiron had insisted on letting the rain fall down upon them, meaning that the strawberries needed the water. Now a soft patter was heard against the windows and when you turned your gaze towards glass, droplets of water landed on the see-through surface and started to roll down to gather upon the window sill before falling to the ground. Nico had looked up when you'd stopped reading and your voice had died down. He was met by the sight of you looking through the windows and when he too turned towards them he noticed the rain. Your gaze held an awe and an adoration and when you turned to face Nico, a smile had taken place upon your lips.
"Isn't it beautiful?" you asked him, smiled and turned back to the window. Nico had never really understood your love towards the wet weather. He just knew that he always ended up drenched and cold whenever it rained. Most of the times it was your fault because you always wanted to go out and just feel the drops on your skin, and he didn't have the heart to tell you no. You'd closed the book you'd been holding, putting your pointer finger to mark the page. Nico reached around you for the post-it note you'd been using as bookmark and took the book from your hands and marked the page before putting the book on his nightstand.
"I'm gonna leave it to you to find beauty in the rain. Most people thinks it ruins the day," he smiled at you and tugged a strand of hair behind your ear. You gave him a smile and sat up straighter.
"Can't we-" you started but Nico cut you off before you got any further into your request.
"Go out?" he finished, raising his eyebrows and a teasing smile took form on his lips. You nodded excitedly. Nico rolled his eyes but gave you a nod and you practically jumped off the bed, taking his hand in yours and pulling him with you. You quickly put your shoes on and pushed the door open. The downfall was thick but the droplets were fine, a real summer rain. Nico came up behind you and you turned around quickly to meet his eyes. The skirt of your dress twirled around you.
"You can't say that it isn't at least a bit beautiful," you teased and Nico shook his head at you.
"I just think it's beautiful because you do," he simply replied with a shrug of his shoulders. You rolled your eyes at him turning around to face the rain again, gently taking his hand in yours and pulling him out into the pouring rain. Nico let out a surprised gasp and you laughed at him, pulling him in for hug. He carefully wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you close to him.
"Thank you," you mumbled, your voice muffled against his now soaked hoodie. Nico only replied with a low hum and a quick kiss against your damp hair. You took his hand in yours and placed the other one on his shoulder. He raised his eyebrows at you, his dark eyes held a hint of amusement.
"Dance with me?" You smiled as you requested it and Nico couldn't help but give you a twirl. Your dress swayed around you and the rain fell upon your skin. You giggled as you came face to face with him again, "I'll take that as a 'yes'."
And so you danced in under the pouring sky, letting the rain soak you to your bones. It wasn't elegant. It was messy and you stumbled on each other's feet. The rain made the grass slippery and you almost landed on your butt when Nico spun you around. But it was fine. It was your own little romantic bubble. And it was enough for both of you. Even if it meant for Nico that he had to get drenched in the cold water. As usual.
Sorry for being a bit dead, I think I need to reread the Riordanverse books 😅
