A/N: hey! I know so far this isn't really a fanfiction, as it follows the pretty much same storyline as PLL. BUT I'm going to start going along a different path in the chapter after next. But anyway, enjoy this chapter. :)

"So... you think it's Jenna?" Emily said, feeling slightly confused.

"And Toby." Spencer added, while shoving things in her locker. "Guys, it makes sense! We...you know. And now they both have a valid reason to hurt us."

"I guess it makes sense, but how do they know... All of this about us?" Aria said in a lower voice.

Spencer thought for a moment. Jenna and Toby... They both no longer go to Rosewood High. So how would they have gotten the picture of her and Ezra? Plus, how did they know about Aria's dad and... whoever he cheated with.

"I don't know." She concluded, looking at her watch. "Guys where is Hanna?"

"Probably with Mona." Emily said while rolling her eyes. Aria laughed.

Spencer froze. As she looked up, she saw Ezra making his way to his English classroom. Her whole body felt like jelly and she felt an electric shock down her spine.

"Uh guys. You can go. I need to talk to Ez-Mr Fitz about something." Spencer said awkwardly. Aria and Emily gave her strange looks, but then moved along. She slowly walked up to him. A genuine smile came across his face when he saw her.

"Can I talk to you?" She said, picking up all of her courage.

"Yeah. Of course."

"I would like to transfer out of you class." She said suddenly, looking at her feet. She couldn't bear to look at him in the eyes. And when she finally did, she looked up to see his face drop. He was probably caught off-guard, she assured herself. But she knew she was lying.

He looked over his shoulder.

"Can you come inside? For a minute. Please." He said, taking a breath in.

She took in his features. His messy brown hair and dark blue eyes. His beautiful face-shape.

"Yeah." Spencer responded. She walked over to his classroom and opened the door. He closed the door behind them.

"I understand, where you're coming from." He began. "As it was my idea. But at the church, I was trying to tell you I was wrong."

Spencer widened her eyes.

"I just wish you could stay in the class."

"Ezra. It wasn't an easy choice! I was trying to convince myself out of it all morning. You were right the other day. I can't keep my feelings in check. I don't want to keep my feeling in check." Spencer said, while walking up to him. She held his hand while searching his eyes. "I don't want to sit in here, every day and have to call you Mr Fitz! I-I can't pretend that I don't know you."

She pulled out a sheet from her bag. God, how she wished she didn't have to do this.

"Sign it. Please." She said, while her voice cracked. He looked at it for a second and then looked at her. He searched deep into her eyes. Did she really want to do this? he thought.

"You sure?" he asked. This is your last chance to back out, she thought. But she liked Ezra too much to back out. She couldn't risk him getting hurt because of her.

"Yes." She whispered, handing him the sheet.

He stared at her for a long moment, then signed the sheet. He passed it back to her, not looking directly in her eyes.

"Thank you."

She looked at him, then hastily walked out of his classroom. Mona Vanderwaal and Hanna stood outside looking at her. She made a bee-line to the girls' restroom and locked herself in a cubicle. She switched on her phone and re-read the text sent to her, earlier that morning.

'Task One: Break up with Ezzy-Boo, before your first lesson. The sheet is in your bag. –A'

She had done it. She had kept her and Ezra safe. But the fact that '-A' labelled it 'Task One' made shivers go down her spine. It meant that there was going to be more than one task. It meant that she was under '-A''s control. And if it was only the first, then it certainly was not going to be easy to do the rest.

Spencer stepped out of the restroom.

Emily and Hanna were at the lockers and Aria was just beginning to walk down the hallway.

"Can all students called make their way to the principal's office. Aria Montgomery. Emily Fields. Hanna Marin. Spencer Hastings."

The four girls all exchanged glances and began walking.

"Guys- wait." Aria said, while stopping.

"What is it?" Emily said. She had a concerned look on her face.

"It's a message from –A!" Aria exclaimed, while widening her eyes. Spencer leaned over Aria's shoulder.

"Dead Girls Walking...-A" Spencer read out, while looking at Emily.

"Bitch." Hanna whispered.

They were greeted by Officer Wilden's smirk, when they entered the principal's office.

"Have a seat, ladies." He said while staring at Hanna. She looked down, definitely feeling uncomfortable.

All the girls sat in silence.

"I decided to call in here, instead of your parents driving you girls to the station. It was easier. So," He said, his smirk disappearing. He picked up a file of documents. He pointed at Spencer. "you thought you heard her scream."

"Yes. I said that." She replied confidently.

"When you girls were in the barn, Alison was gone. And so was Spencer."

Spencer felt her cheeks burn. What was trying to say? She had to hold herself together. She did nothing wrong. Apart from 'The Jenna Thing'...

"Yes. I woke up before the rest of them and realised Ali was gone." She said. "So I went- "

"Looking for her." He said, his smirk re-appearing. He sat down on a cabinet, looking delighted.

Spencer felt unnerved. She understood why Hanna felt uncomfortable. She decided she definitely did not like this cop. And he should not be allowed to make her feel like a criminal.

"That's what happened." She said, pulling a smile which said, what are you trying to say?

He nodded and smacked his lips together.

"I got that." He paused. "So what was this? A summer party or...?"

"Is this interrogation?" Spencer said suddenly.

"No, just a routine follow-up." He replied calmly. "Why did you guys all fall asleep?"

"I guess we were tired." Aria replied, looking at him straight in the eyes.

"Tired. Really?" He said. He looked at Hanna, who was looking at her hands.

"Is that how you remember it Hanna?"

"Yeah." She said quickly

"Look," Spencer said, cutting in. She was not going the let him mess with any of her old best friends. She still cared about them. It was her fault when she broke apart from them. Plus, they were in this mess together. "We've told you everything we know Just like the night she went missing."

"I know. And you see the thing is it's exactly what you said last year."

Emily furrowed her eyebrows.

"Almost as if it was rehearsed."

Spencer cocked her jaw and clenched her teeth. He had no right to say that, she thought. Emily looked down at her feet in the same fashion as Hanna.

"Like Spencer said, we have told you everything we know." Aria said, breaking the silence.

The officer nodded and breathed in.

"You are free to leave." Wilden said. Spencer, Hanna and Aria walked out. Spencer looked behind her. "Oh and Hanna. Tell your mom I said hi." He said quietly. Hanna almost squirmed.

Spencer raised her eyebrows, then went to her next class.

********************************************************************************

Lunch was awkward. Really awkward.

"Jenna's back in school too?" Hanna said, a bit too loudly.

Her stick tapped against the school dining room as many people stared at her.

"Speak of the devil." Spencer muttered. They were talking about how they lied about 'The Jenna Thing' and how, according to Spencer, it was a crime the hold evidence back.

Aria stood up and asked Jenna to sit down, looking at Spencer, Hanna and Emily for confirmation. So she sat down next to Hanna and Emily, much to both of their dismay. She went on about Alison and what table they were sitting at and all words were blur in Spencer's head. Until she said something that grabbed her attention.

"You know; Alison came to visit me at the hospital." Jenna said casually.

"What?" Spencer said, snapping out of her daydream. She widened her eyes. Jenna nodded.

"Everyone misunderstood Alison, but I knew exactly who she was."

"Jenna. Where were you? We heard you were at the school in Philadelphia for the... visually impaired." Spencer said, lowering her voice.

"You can say blind, Spencer. It's not a dirty word." She said while laughing.

Jenna just talked about- who knows. Spencer's mind was just back to when it happened. When Ali threw the stink bomb. When the shed exploded. When everything went wrong. Then she realised- Jenna was back at school. So she had to be –A!

Suddenly, her phone beeping brought her back to reality. All of their phones were beeping.

"Aren't you going to get that?" Jenna said to Aria, while handing her her phone.

Spencer picked her phone up and shut her eyes as soon as she read the message.

'If only she could see how guilty you look. –A'.

**********************************************************************************

Spencer cautiously walked into the English classroom she entered earlier that day. Don't make eye contact, don't make eye contact, she thought. She speeded up her pace and felt his eyes tattoo onto her skin. But oh my, she would admire that tattoo for the rest of her life. She put down the sheet that had a big fat 'DECLINED' written on, on his desk.

She sat down in her place and got out her books and pretended to read. God, this was so wrong. But it felt so right. 'A' never said that she couldn't make any interaction if the request was declined...She couldn't resist any longer. She looked up.

He was looking at the paper and then looked at her. And he smiled. She breathed in. She was terrified. She felt as if the next movement she made right then could change the course of future. But she smiled back. The most genuine smile she has pulled since Ali disappeared. She felt like she was finally safe. Even if it was for a tiny moment. Ezra gave her that so... they had to be right.

He looked back down, unable to stifle the huge grin on his face. She was falling.

Quick End Note: Sorry I just wanted to point out, the above section after the page break, is my favourite bit from the this fanfiction so far. Haha. Anyway, please review this chapter and feedback is key! :)
