Ranrok was close to the last repository if he hadn't already gotten to it. I hated how much the Keepers had kept me in the dark about things, and thanks to them being so slow there was a chance this goblin rebellion would turn into a full scale war, especially if Ranrok gets ahold of Isidora's left over power. I know had the artefacts collected form each trial and, as instructed, took them to be transformed into a wand at Ollivanders.
I had been waiting for a while so after a walk around Hogsmeade I headed back to the infamous wand shop, the bell ringing as I entered. Ollivander poked his head around the far wall and smiled when he saw me. "Miss (l/n), it is almost ready," he said and I nodded, him disappearing behind the wall again. He was muttering away and I perused around him shop, but something out the window caught my eye.
An elderly couple were running as quickly as they could, hand in hand apparently frightened by something, but when I looked around I saw no one. I found it a little strange, usually Hogsmeade was buzzing with people during the day. "It is done," Mr Ollivander suddenly said and I whirled around to see him holding an open wand box, the elegant wand inside. "I believe this wand to serve a unique purpose. I doubt you will find much use for it otherwise."
"Thank you sir," I said politely, taking it from him and closing the lid. I bade him farewell and exited his shop, but there wasn't a soul in sight. The sun was setting and it was getting dark, but still the famous village was too quiet. Am unnerving presence to my right made me jump, and I pulled my wand out quickly when I saw Victor Rookwood approaching.
"I'm afraid you're on your own. In light of what Ranrok knows you must agree that our interests are aligned," he sneered and I gritted my teeth.
"Our interests will never be aligned," I said firmly.
"You would let goblins take what is rightfully ours?" He scoffed. "The final repository belongs to wizardkind. It would be foolish not to work together."
"I have no idea what you're talking about," I gripped my wand tighter.
"That repository is my birthright!"
"Professor Rookwood wouldn't of wanted you anywhere near it!"
"I should've known better than to try and reason with a child. I've always said children should be seen and not heard," he growled and the words made me froze. They were the words Sebastian, my close friend and crush, told me his sister had heard before she was cursed. Due to this slight falter in my stance a thug suddenly appeared behind me, grabbed ahold of me and before I could wriggle free we apparated away.
- Sebastian's POV -
I paced the Undercroft back and forth, checking the grandfather clock every other minute. She was rarely late and after finding out the true nature of everything that had been going on it was easy to get worried about her. That and the fact I had feelings for her.
She was now an hour late. I knew that she had gone to Ollivander's to have a wand made, and I knew wands took time to make but I was still nervous to the point where I couldn't contain myself. I left the Undercroft and headed to the one place I knew I'd be able to get answers: Fig's office.
I ran up the steps in his classroom and banged on his door, worry fuelling me. He opened the door in confusion, apparently surprised to see me. "Professor, do you know where (y/n) is?" I asked desperately and concern was etched on his expression.
"She's running an errand for me in Hogsmeade... why?" He asked and I sighed, knowing I needed to tell him everything.
"I know, sir. I know about everything," I said and his eyes widened, him stepping aside and letting me into my office.
"(y/n) told you everything?" He asked after he shut the door and I nodded.
"About the Keepers, the memories... we actually hunted down some of Isidora's hideouts together," i explained and he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "She also told me about the wand she needed to get crafted."
"Have you breathed a word of this to anybody else?" Fig asked sternly.
"No sir."
"Good. I must admit that I am a little concerned as to why she hasn't returned yet... she told me she was going to bring the wand straight to me."
"She also said she'd meet me, but that was an hour ago. Rookwood is still out there, what if something's happened-,"
"Calm down Mr Sallow, we will find her," Fig assured. "First we shall go to Hogsmeade, to Ollivander's. It may be that the wand is simply taking longer to craft than we expected."
I nodded, trying to take comfort from this but I was still nervous. On route he asked me about how much I knew so I told him everything. It was clear he was irritated that she had told me but was also thankful that she had someone her age to confide in. I told him all about Isidora's hideouts, about the triptych we had found and whilst he didn't seem happy he did seem interested. I knew we'd have to tell him everything after but our priority was finding (y/n).
"Where will she be?" I asked the stupid question and Fig pondered quietly.
"We're getting close to revealing the truth, so as much as I hate to think about it I have an unfortunate feeling that it's possible somebody higher up in Rookwoods lot could have captured her..."
"Oh Merlin," I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"She is a capable witch, the most capable I've ever seen. We know of multiple Rookwood camps, so we'll have to apparate to those most probable. I don't know what will await us at each but we must be prepared for anything," he said and I nodded. Together we left the Hogwarts grounds and apparated to various Rookwood camps, desperate to find my close friend and crush.
- (y/n)'s POV -
"Bombarda!" I yelled at an Ashwinder, blasting her far away. I was panting heavily, completely exhausted and in immense pain as I had been hit multiple times with various spells by Rookwoods lot, the man himself having now emerged. I glared at him as he walked calmly towards me, those around me having stopped firing. "It's a shame we couldn't of come to some sort of agreement. The power we would've been able to wield would have been... immense," he smirked greedily.
"That power should be left alone!" I shouted, gripping my wand tighter. He just laughed before pointing his wand at me, a spell heading straight in my direction but I managed to counter it. We were locked in a battle I finally won, and he disappeared.
"Expulso!" An Ashwinder from behind me yelled out and I was flown backwards. "It's going to get a little hot," he laughed maniacally and I managed to roll out of the way just in time to see his inferno shoot high into the sky exactly where I was laid moments ago.
"Diffindo!" Another yelled and I tried to block it with protego but it was too strong; it broke through my barrier and sliced my arm. Thankfully Rookwoods lot were weakening as I managed to pick them off one by one, but my head was pounding, blood was dripping from my arm and my lungs were trying desperately to breathe in as much air as possible. "Crucio!"
I cried out in pain, tears streaming down my face as the intense torture curse hit my body. I had only felt it once in the Scriptorium, Sebastian apologising to me endlessly afterwards but the pain was scarring. 'Sebastian,' I thought of him, his smile, his knowledge, his laugh and his troublesome nature all of which gave me strength. With confidence I stood, surprising those around me. I had built up enough anger and power that I began to fire ancient magic in all directions. I had found myself again, my power and whilst I had it I was going to use it to the best of my ability.
The Ashwinders around me were shocked that I could still stand. They stared in awe for a moment too long and I was able to blast them away with a single strike of bombarda or confringo. Some were even fleeing, apparating away leaving a shocked and furious Rookwood in their wake. "Why won't you die?!" He screamed as I finally managed to knock out the last of his executioners.
"I am far more powerful than you ever anticipated!" I yelled, adrenaline fuelling me as I raised my wand high into the air. A satisfactory look of fear appeared on his features as my ancient magic allowed me to accumulate immense amount of lightening, and finally I brought my wand down, it violently landing on Rookwood in a loud and intense explosion. His limp body fell to the ground and the last of his troops I hadn't managed to end apparated away out of fear.
My tired state soon caught up with me and I collapsed on the ground, blood dripping from my arm and down the side of my face, intense pain in my stomach which I assumed would be broken ribs and what I knew what would eventually be a large bruise on my back. When I tried to stand my legs wobbled but I had to make sure the man was dead. I didn't care about the bodies of the Ashwinders around me, all I cared about was making sure their leader was gone and that he couldn't hurt anymore people.
I stumbled beside his body and checked for a pulse on his wrist but thankfully there was nothing. I let out a sigh of relief, but the next problem occurred to me. Where was I, and how was I going to get back to the castle in this state?
Looking around I knew I was in the ruins of a small castle, a place Rookwoods lot had claimed. I must've still been somewhere in the Highlands as the scenery around me still looks familiar, even though it was night. My injuries were going to make things so much more difficult, but to my surprise and relief I heard my name being called by a familiar voice. "(y/n)!" Sebastian yelled and I turned to see him and Professor Fig running my way. Sebastian quickly fell by my side, apparently horrified by the injuries I had received. "What happened?!"
"Is that... Rookwood?" Fig gasped, seeing the mans corpse beside me.
"I had to- he almost killed me," I whispered and Sebastian pulled me in for a hug. I winced at my injuries but I knew he was only being comforting so I ended up grinning and baring it.
"You're seriously hurt, did he do this to you?" Sebastian asked when he pulled away and I nodded carefully.
"And his followers," I added.
"It's okay (y/n), there's no need to worry about this now. We just need to focus on getting you back to the castle and healing you," Fig said and I nodded nervously. Sebastian wiped away the blood that was dripping down my head with his sleeve, not caring that his robe was now stained with my blood. The concern in his dark eyes made me feel warm, and it felt good when he helped me to my feet being careful of my injuries. "Are you both ready?"
Sebastian looked at me and I nodded in conformation, the three of us apparating back to Hogwarts.
- The Next Day -
My eyes burned as they adjusted to the light streaming into the hospital wing, the uncomfortable bed making my already painful back ache. I looked around and a small smile came to my lips as I saw Sebastian snoozing on the chair next to my hospital bed. I remembered what had happened the night previous - after all it was hard not to. The ambush was scary enough, but out of all of the... predicaments I had found myself in since starting Hogwarts, none had been so overwhelming as that so I was quite surprised I had made it out alive.
A shadow appeared at the end of my bed and I saw Fig stare at me with a kind smile. "It's good to see you awake," he said, his voice startling Sebastian awake.
"(y/n)!" He said excitedly and I chuckled.
"I'm fine, just a few bumps and bruises-,"
"And several broken ribs," Fig interrupted and I sighed. "Nurse Blainley has seen to them, they will be completely healed by this evening."
"How did you both find me?" I asked.
"I have been accumulating a list of Rookwood's most probable hideouts. It was a long shot but after a few searches we finally found you," Fig explained and I nodded. "I think you both have some explaining to do," he added and I felt a little guilty having not told my mentor about everything I had found with Sebastian. I laid it all out for him, everything we had discovered and everywhere we had been. He simply listened and nodded along.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner Professor," I mumbled but she shook his head.
"You've told me now. I'm more concerned about your health," he chuckled and I smiled. "I'll leave you two alone. I shall inform the Keepers of our current situation. Hopefully they will finally reveal the location of the final repository," he added before heading out of the hospital wing leaving Sebastian and I alone.
"Thanks for finding me when you did, I wasn't sure how long I was going to last," I admitted.
"I wish I could've found you sooner, I think I took too long," he mumbled but I reached out to take ahold of his hand. He blushed adorably and looked into my eyes, me smiling at him encouragingly.
"You saved my life," I smiled and I saw tears come to his eyes. "That's all you need to think about, that you saved my life." Everything that happened with his uncle was still haunting him, understandably so, so I was constantly trying to keep some light in his life and I was hoping these words would put a bit more confidence in him.
"Thanks (y/n)," he muttered. "Listen there's something about last night that scared me. Not only that I might loose you but that I might've lost you without telling you something quite important..."
"Okay... what's wrong?" I asked nervously.
"So, you've been a great friend of mine ever since you came here... I'd be lost without you, honestly," He muttered and I smiled. "So the thing is I... like you more than a friend... that I want us to be more than friends."
"Sebastian are you admitting feelings for me?" I teased and somehow his cheeks grew redder.
"Maybe."
"Then I accept," I said and his eyes widened. I tried to sit up but he quickly stopped me, sitting on the edge of my bed.
"Take it easy- do you really feel that way?"
"Yeah, I wouldn't lie about something lie that," I assured him, smiling brightly at him. "Thanks for everything you've done for me."
"I'm just glad you're safe," he said softly and I cupped his cheek. He smirked and pressed his lips against my own soothingly. It was heaven, and I couldn't remember a time I felt happier.
