You were out with Arrow, Hiccup, and all of your dragons picking fruit to bring back to the Edge. Nightshade was very careful when helping so she wouldn't accidentally poison a piece of fruit. You smiled as she helped Toothless reach the top of some of the apple trees. Hiccup had gone off to look for any more fields that you could harvest from.
All of a sudden, you heard a scream. You all paused, listening. The shout became more clear as it drew closer.
"TOOTHLESS!!"
"That's Hiccup!" You exclaimed. Toothless growled and Hiccup called for him again as he came running over the hill with a bunch of hostile Vikings behind him. You and Arrow took to the air on your dragons and fought them off with Toothless helping from the ground.
"Get 'em, Stormfly!" Arrow shouted. Stormfly fired a spine shot and you glared at the men. Nobody messes with my lov-FRIEND! Gods, I've gotta stop doing that. You told Nightshade to fire and she chased off the last of them with her glare and her roar. "Yeah, that's right! Keep running!" Arrow shouted.
"That's what you get for coming after us!" You yelled. You hurried over to Hiccup, quickly checking him for injuries as Arrow landed behind the two of you.
"You okay?" Arrow asked. Hiccup gently pushed your hands away and nodded, just a little winded.
"Yeah, I think so."
"You think so?" You repeated, still looking him over. He smiled a little.
"Hey, (Y/n), it's alright. I'm not hurt. Calm down." You blushed realizing you were being a little weird about it and backed off.
"S-sorry."
"Nah, nah, it's alright. Thanks for the concern. I appreciate it." You smiled back at him, relieved. Toothless licked his face. "Ugh! I'm all right, bud." You chuckled at the groan as he got slobber on him.
"Who were those guys? They didn't look like Dragon Hunters." Arrow asked.
"You know, I don't know. With all the flying axes and tumbling down hills, I forgot to ask." Hiccup replied, standing up. You noticed Toothless batting at a piece of paper. The others saw it too. "Hey. What you got there, Toothless?" You all looked at the sheet and you were shocked.
"I think I know who those guys were..." Arrow muttered worriedly. You picked up the paper.
"We need to get back and alert the others." You told them. Hiccup didn't look happy and didn't say anything. Arrow was already back on Stormfly. You walked over to Hiccup. You cupped his cheek to get him to meet your gaze.
"We're not gonna let anyone hurt you. That's my promise." He smiled at you.
"Thanks, (Y/n). I just hope we can deal with this properly once we get back to the Edge." You nodded and you both mounted your dragons, following after Arrow.
*Back at the Edge*
"Hahaha! No way! Viggo put a price on Hiccup's head?" Snotlout said, holding up the poster. "Oh, man! Every bounty hunter from here to the archipelago is gonna be looking for you."
"Thank you, Snotlout, for your undying support." Hiccup grumbled sarcastically.
"No, thank you, Hiccup." He replied with a grin. You glared at him.
"You know what? I think I have another bounty to put out. One on you." You threatened. He stopped.
"Y-you know what? It's not so bad! The picture is nice!" You rolled your eyes.
"Hmm. I wonder if Viggo's paying the bounty with Berk's gold..." Fishlegs said.
"That much irony should be illegal. Let me see that." Tuff said, snatching the paper. "Wait a minute, there's no mention of us at all!"
"It's all about Hiccup," Ruff grumbled beside her brother.
"Pfft, typical! I demand a bounty be on us immediately, and that the hounds be released." Tuff demanded.
"I'll put a bounty on us!" Ruff said.
"Thanks, sister. I know I could count on you. All right, we'll need flattering pictures for our flyers, a creepy alias, mine will be Nutte Tuff."
"All right, enough about the bounty. Mine and yours. We have other things to do." Hiccup said.
"I hate to say it, Hiccup, but it might be a good idea to lie low for a while until this cools off," Heather replied.
"No way. That's playing right into Viggo's hands." Hiccup told her.
"Wait, you can't still be planning on going to the party?" Arrow asked.
"It's Berk's 400 year anniversary. You know what my dad would do to me if I missed it?" Hiccup asked him.
"And he's finally gonna nail you for losing all of Berk's gold. Hahaha! It's gonna be epic!" Snotlout added.
"We're not kids anymore, Snotlout. He's not gonna 'nail me'." Hiccup told him.
"I don't know, Hiccup. A crowded, public event is the perfect place for bounty hunters to slip in undetected."
"Not to mention that this bounty showed up right around the time of this party. It seems a little too practical for bounty hunters, don't you think?" You added.
"Fishlegs, (Y/n), I appreciate your concern, but no. I'm not hiding from anyone. We're going to the party." With that, nobody continued to argue and they went to get ready for the trip. You stayed there, leaning against the wall with your arms crossed. You were deep in thought and you didn't like this one bit. "(Y/n)? Hey, you with me?" You looked up. Hiccup was there and you sighed.
"Yeah, sorry."
"What's wrong?" You looked at him, your worried expression telling him everything he needed to know. "(Y/n), I'll be fine. As much as it's a crowded event, that means there's a lot of eyes around. If anything were to happen to me at the party, somebody would notice. I'm sure of it." You raised an eyebrow at him. "It'll be fine! I promise." He left to go get ready and you frowned.
"I hope you're right, Hiccup..."
*Later that day*
You all arrived at Berk. Vikings all around were setting up for the party and you saw the Gobber was definitely ready for the celebration, having face paint on already. Stoick was next to him. Stoick was only paying attention to Hiccup as you landed, however. You went off to find your family.
"(Y/n)!" You turned as you heard your name.
"Boys! Cala!" You rushed over for a big family hug. You smiled at each of them afterward and they all seemed thrilled to see you again. You all took the time to catch up and you went off with them for a bit, meeting up with Jahlin's team as well.
After a little while of chatting, Jahlin suddenly spoke up. You all listened as he began to speak. You were curious about what he had to say.
"As new Berkians, I would like to thank the (L/n) family for everything they've done for us and continue to do for Berk and dragons everywhere! To the (L/n)'s and to Berk!"
"To the (L/n)'s and Berk!" His team repeated and you smiled at him.
"Thank you, Jahlin, but everything we do isn't for recognition. We do it for the benefit of others." They all nodded and you all continued to chat and celebrate. Then, you remembered the problem at hand. Ash noticed your change in mood.
"Hey, sis, what's wrong?" You sighed. You knew Hiccup would want to keep it to himself, so you decided to go about it carefully.
"There's just been some problems at the Edge recently. The main point is, it's been dangerous lately." You leaned in and whispered in his ear. "I need you five to stay as lookouts during the party. Report to me if you see anything suspicious." He nodded.
"You got it. You can count on us."
*Later that night*
It was time for all of the Riders to put on a show for everyone. You were doing a stunt with your brothers. Cala would stay back and keep watch under your orders. You were glad Hiccup hadn't noticed that you put them on high alert yet.
After Ruff and Tuff did their trick, you were up. You and your brothers flew straight up in your formation. They were all around you and Nightshade.
"Now boys!" You called. They all pulled back and dove back down before regrouping and waiting for you. Nightshade quickly pulled back and you leaped off of her, continuing to go straight up until gravity began to work on you again. You did several flips, spins, and twirls as you fell back down.
Nightshade had already dived through the circle of Nightmares and now it was your turn. They all blasted together, the shots causing a large explosion just before you dove past them. It cleared up just in time and you landed standing upright on Nightshade's back.
Deafening cheers burst out from down below and you smiled, taking a bow before sitting back down in the saddle. You all hurried off to join your sister and continue with your lookout.
"Anything?" You asked.
"Nothing so far, (Y/n)." You nodded.
"Good work. I have to get back to the others. Keep your eyes peeled, alright?" They all nodded and stayed on the rooftops with their dragons, keeping watch over the party.
Soon enough, the party was over and it was getting late. You had gone to meet up with Hiccup. You were taking the night watch...that you hadn't told your family about.
"Hiccup!" You called, running over to him. He turned.
"Oh. Hey, (Y/n). What's up?" He asked.
"I just wanted to talk to you."
"About what?"
"About the main problem." You said. He sighed. "I saw you were on edge too tonight. Don't think I didn't notice."
"Okay, so this is kinda getting to me, but I'm fine! I'm still here, aren't I?"
"Hiccup-"
"It's alright, (Y/n). You know, you've been really stressed lately. Even more so than me! You need to relax. I know this is unsettling, but it's okay. I know nothing could happen to me with all of you guys by my side." You smiled at him. He hugged you and you returned it, holding him close. "It's gonna be fine." You sighed and nodded.
"I know." You looked at him with a smile. "Night, Hiccup."
"Night, (Y/n). Besides, once we head back to the Edge in the morning, everything will be okay." You nodded.
"You're right." But that doesn't stop me from worrying about you. He left to go to his house and get some rest. Once all of Berk was quiet, you snuck out and stayed on the overlook that gave you a great view of all of Berk. You kept watch, not even feeling tired. In fact, you felt restless. It had all been so much lately. Viggo was picking up with his operations, Berk had lost its gold, Leon was still out there and as dangerous as ever, and on top of that, Hiccup's life was in danger once again.
You sighed heavily and Nightshade nuzzled your arm with a whine. You pet her solemnly, distracted and forlorn. Everything had just been getting to you lately. The others had already started to notice. You were rarely happy and laughing, you hardly ever came out of your hut for any reason aside from the others needing you and mealtimes, and you'd been getting less and less sleep.
Though, you knew the real reason why that was. The others thought it was the stress piled on with homesickness, but that wasn't it. Only Arrow knew the truth because he'd already guessed it. The truth was, your feelings for Hiccup were continuing to grow after all of the other things that had been happening.
The fight, Leon's plan, the Scourge, all of it had pushed both of you away and back together repeatedly and it was causing way too much turmoil inside of you. You loved him and you could no longer deny it. All you wanted was to tell him and have him smile at you the way you smiled at him.
Arrow said you should just tell him, but you knew that wasn't an option. He had too much to deal with. Way too much, and you weren't going to add to that with the pressure of number 1: making him decide on his feeling (which you were certain weren't there), and number two: going through the drama of a relationship and everything that came with that in dangerous situations like the one you were currently in. You just couldn't do that to him.
After a little while of sitting on the overlook with Nightshade, you sighed to yourself. You knew it was getting really late and you would need sleep for the trip in the morning. "Maybe I really am just paranoid..."
Suddenly, you saw movement down below. You were stunned that you hadn't noticed it before. There was a ship leaving port and it didn't look like one of Berk's vessels. Plus, who would be leaving this late at night? You hopped on Nightshade and hurried down there. You scanned over the ship, frowning before approaching. You landed, Nightshade having her shots ready. "What's going on here?" You demanded.
"We're sorry! W-we were just heading back home! W-we wanted some rest before shipping out! Great party, by the way! Heheh..." You looked at the two Vikings before you. You didn't know them, but they didn't seem all that dangerous. You sighed. I guess I am just on edge.
"My apologies. I hope you have safe travels." You told them and headed off. They kept sailing and you let them go. Nightshade whined at you and you patted her side. "I know, girl. Let's go get some rest."
As you headed back, Nightshade paused. She sniffed around and you looked at her, confused and interested. You placed your hand on her neck, petting her gently. "What is it, Nightshade?" She raised her head, growling suddenly. You followed after her and you stopped at Hiccup's house. You frowned. "What? Why did you take me here?" She whined before looking out at the ocean. It clicked with you all of a sudden. "Oh no..."
You began to panic. That ship was miles away by now and you had no idea where they were headed. You were about to go wake the others, but you didn't have time to now. You needed to catch up to them, fast! Nightshade bumped you and you felt the realization hit you like a wave crashing on the shore. She can track! Gods, I really HAVEN'T been paying attention, have I? Grr...no time to worry about that now.
You hopped on her back and you both hurried off, taking to the air to go rescue Hiccup. You felt a pit in your stomach as the worry started to get worse and worse. "I'm coming, Hiccup. Just hold on. I'm on my way."
Hiccup's POV
I woke up with a groan. My head hurt a little, but I had no idea why or what was going on. I frowned, looking around.
"Huh? Where am I?" I tried to get up to investigate, but it was then I realized I was tied up. I felt very nervous now. I was trapped. Actually no, better yet, I was captured. Great. Just great. Gods, why didn't I listen to Arrow and (Y/n)? I should really know this stuff by now! Ugh, forget it. I need to get out of here.
I tried to move, but the ropes wouldn't budge. I needed to find a way to free myself. "There's got to be something sharp." I looked around before spying a bent nail sticking out of one of the wooden boards. I was able to hop/scoot over to it and I began to work at the rope with the sharp edge of the nail. "Come on, come on, come on..."
There was movement above me, presumably my captors. I could make out two figures pass directly above me, casting bulky shadows through a crack in the ceiling boards. I didn't like how bulky they seemed to be. That would only cause more problems for me. To make matters worse, they seemed to be coming down to check on me. Gotta move faster! Come on, you stupid rope!
Suddenly, they were in front of me. I didn't dare keep going while they were so close. Two men were there and, while they didn't look all that threatening thanks to their demeanor, I wasn't going to underestimate them since they managed to get me out of my own house in the middle of the night!
"He's awake! Quick Berthel, knock him out again." I thought quickly.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you!"
"Why not?"
"Because you might accidentally kill me, and...Viggo wants me alive!"
"Is that true?"
"Well, what does the poster say?"
"I lost the poster."
"Berthel, you had one thing to do! Hold the poster." 'Berthel' held up his two hook hands.
"Holding things is not my strong suit! You know that..."
"Maybe we'll knock you out later." The second said.
"You know, if I were you two, I'd release me. My friends will be here any minute, with their dragons. Their fire-breathing dragons." I tried to scare them.
"He's bluffin'." A thud came from above and I was stunned. Wow, I didn't think they'd get here that fast.
"What's that? Dragons?" Berthel asked. They went up and I heard the sounds of a fight. I got the rope off and rushed to the stairs with a smile. I knew I could count on you guys!
"I'm down here!" I called. Suddenly, I saw somebody else above the stairway.
"Yes. I know you are." He said confidently. I frowned, taking a step back.
"Savage..."
Your POV
You got to the ship you saw leave. It was vacant. Nightshade sniffed around, growling. You knew what she was saying. Somebody else has him now.
"Come on, girl. Take me to him." She took off again and you heard splashing behind you. You turned, seeing the two men from before. Nightshade growled, turning to shoot, but you stopped her. "No, girl! We need to get to Hiccup as soon as possible. They're not worth it. Let's go!" She nodded and you both kept flying.
Soon, you saw two ships beside each other. You hurried over. You saw the sail on one of them. You knew that to be Savage's symbol. The other looked familiar, but you couldn't place it for a moment. You landed and you saw Throk was there, knocked out. How many people are after him on the same day!?
You helped Throk, reviving him enough to get him to a more comfortable place on his ship. He'd passed out again before you could question him. You frowned, knowing you needed to let him rest. By now the others have got to be on the trail too. I have to trust they'll come to help Throk and question Savage. We need to keep going.
You both kept flying and you knew you had to be getting close. Soon enough, you saw an island up ahead. You and Nightshade rushed to get there as fast as you could. Soon, you saw a man standing by the cliffside. You growled in anger. Ryker... Nightshade growled too.
"Let's do this right, huh, girl?" You saw another man with Ryker and, chained and being dragged along, was Hiccup. You were stunned. He looked like an animal being treated like that and you felt your heart break and your blood boil at the same time.
A fight broke out as you both hurried to get to him and you saw Hiccup make a run for it. You got an idea. "Nightshade! Circle around! We'll come at them from the other side and pull Hiccup out of there before they even know what happened!" You told her. She followed your orders and you saw Hiccup nearly fall off another cliff before Ryker caught him and dragged him back up. You glared at him and you both dove in.
"FIRE!!" Nightshade blasted him away as you jumped off, pulling out your weapons. Ryker looked stunned.
"You?! How did you-!?" You held your weapons out, your eyes burning as you stood there.
"(Y/n)!?" Hiccup exclaimed. You paid no mind to him. He wasn't safe yet, so you could answer questions later.
"Get away from him and stay away from me, Ryker! I'm warning you." You hissed. Hunters were suddenly around you.
"You and what army?" You grinned. Nightshade rushed in and took care of the Hunters while you fought off Ryker. Soon, the others arrived. You smiled.
"Perfect timing, gang!" Suddenly, Ryker knocked you back and grabbed Hiccup, hitting him and knocking him out again before running off. "HICCUP!!" You rushed after him, throwing caution to the wind. Stoick and Toothless were right behind you with Nightshade not too far ahead
