Alexander closed one of his important deals and sat on the chair in his office going through various land acquisition papers. Alexander was a paid killer. He was a first class executor who executed people without any remorse. His first murder was at the age of 20,and he just lost count on how many he had killed since then. He was jailed for 3 years after his first murder. He came out, built his own gang and now, he accepts deals for killing people for others. Once he makes a deal, he would make sure that the person is killed within the specified days. He was ruthless, cold and dominant. That's the reason why no one crossed paths with him. He was the king in his line of job. The present deal which he finalised just a few minutes ago, was for an Italian underworld mafia Don named Luca Bascilio. A man was indebted to this Italian Don,  and he had failed to pay back even after several warnings. He would flee from one country to another to escape the debt and this had worn out the patience of the Italian Don. Now he is said to have been residing in North Carolina for the time being. Hence, Luca Bascilio himself had asked Alexander to eliminate this pest, and Alexander had agreed to finish him off within three days.
Apart from this, Alexander was also known for constructing  buildings on vast acres of land, and he owned a chain of restaurants across the city, and a few other countries too.
He would acquire huge acres of land and would expand his restaurants, or else he would build buildings, orphanages or homes for the aged.
No one knew Alexander Hunter the killer, because he did his work silently erasing each and every trace of his victim. But people often knew the business man Alexander.
Alexander was going through all the land acquisition papers and was contemplating to aquire another piece of land for his new trust , he planned on building a home for the orphans.

Jacob, Alexanders' right hand man and his most eminent , sat across the table explaining the land they found out for his their business.

"Boss, we have a location for our next land acquisition. Would you like to go through it?"

Alexander looked up from the pile of other land acquisition papers.

" Well, that's good news, considering the fact that we could get hold of the land soon. Where is it located exactly?"

"It's in the locality , far south.
It's a vast piece of land, with a few houses scattered around it. But there is one problem." Jacob said removing a few photographs from the file he had on the table.

Alexander silently kept listening keenly to his right hands mans' statements.

"And the problem there is this house." He pushed the photographs to Alexanders' side while he kept his finger pointed at the old house that was captured in the photograph.

"There is an old house that rests on that pice of land. It is in the name of a lady named Loren Hart."
Alexander froze hearing the owners last name, and narrowed his eyes at the house in the photohraph. But he knew she wouldn't be here.
He nodded signalling him to continue.

"These are a few pictures of the land. If you approve of it, we'll continue by sending them an order to vacate the house."
He had dealt with a similar case in his previous land acquisitions. There was a house obstructing the land that he had decided to buy, and he had payed the amount they asked for to vacate that place.
Alexander always got what he wanted and never compromised on his needs.
He inspected the pictures with great concentration as if he would find what he was looking for.

"I want this land. Send the boys to have a talk with the lady. The money is hers."

"Will do boss, anything else?"

"Yes, get that pest tracked. He should be finished within three days. It's Bascilios' deal. Thank you Jacob."

"It will be done sir."

Jacob left to carry out his work.

Alexander sank  back into his chair as he looked at the photographs, and kept them on his table. He was exhausted. He folded his hands behind his head and closed his eyes. Yet another land acquisition. He was happy with the land, and he wanted  that for his business. He opened his eyes and eyed the clock which read 1.30am. He let out a deep sigh and got up from his chair. The lights automatically switched off once he left his office and he shut the door behind him. He walked through the hallway and stepped into his bedroom that was at the end of the hallway.
His room was big, but black. The king size bed had black satin sheets, and black pillows. The walls were painted black with grey painted only on the wall near the headboard of his bed. The curtains were grey and black, and they were wide open showing the peaceful city illuminated with lights. He made his way towards the table that was near the window and slowly started removing his wrist watch while he kept his eyes fixated outside the window looking at the calmness of the world outside. He removed his jacket, later his tie and white shirt slowly followed it. He undid his belt and stood there near the window wondering what she would be be doing now. Wondering where she would be. The moment Alexander thought about her, he could feel him loosing himself, he could feel the loneliness dominating his life. He closed his eyes and sighed as he gripped the sides of the table and bent his head down. He took a deep breath and looked back at the illuminated city in front of him. After a few minutes ,he got into the adjoining bathroom and took a long relaxing shower. He stepped outside the bathroom  with nothing but a towel wrapped around his torso and another towel with which he was drying his hair. He then wiped away the drops of water that rested across his muscled chest and stomach. He then put on his boxers and got into his bed, pulling the comforter over his body. He kept his right hand folded behind his head and his left hand laid on the comforter. He longed for her, how he wished to sleep with her besides him. He would never forget the days when he would sleep next to Rose when they were kids at a sleep over, or when his parents fought. He longed for her warmth, her comfort and her smell. All this reminded of how lonely he was in life, and also of how cruel he had become since then.
Sleep would never come soon for him.Every night rose used to haunt his dreams, haunt him.
He closed his eyes and carried himself to a distant memory that he shared with her. It was the only way for him to stay connected with her.

15 years back.

Alexander laid on the bench at his backyard as he looked at the stars with his hands behind his head. He often came here at night to enjoy the silence and peace the starry nights offered. His parents often fought at home, and he used to tremble with fear, just like how he used to tremble when he was a small kid. That was the only thing that had scared him the most . The days when his parents fought,he used to be sent away to Roses' house, but now he was a grown man. He would have to face his fears all by  himself. He let out a sigh and closed his eyes feeling the soft cold breeze moving against him. His soft black hair slipped from its original place to his forehead but his eyes were still closed. He just wished his parents lived happily without any fight, those fights were not normal. When his father lost his temper , he would not have control on what he did. He still remembered the day when his father lifted the chair at the dining table to throw at his mother but he put it down and got out of the house. Alexander could never be at home when they fought. He had lost his faith in love looking at his parents fight. His parents were back to normal after a few days, and might even love each other after everything. But that dint change his outlook towards love..His heart did not trust in it anymore.
He was not sure if he could accept any girl tomorrow. He would date, but there wouldn't be love in it.
Alexander sighed and slowly opened his eyes only to find Rose standing and watching him with deep attention and a smile playing on her lips.
He scrunched his eyebrows and got up making space for her to sit next to him.

"Rose, when did you come here?"

"Just a few minutes back."she said as she sat next to him.

"You should have called me."
He said looking at her.

"That's alright Alex, you seemed to be deep in thought. I dint want to disturb you."

"You should have", he whispered to himself. He did not want to think about the fights between his parents.

"I went home. Your mother told me that you went out.
..I knew you would be here... So I came by."

"Okay, so what brings you here? Do you have anything to tell me Rose?" He asked her wanting to go back to being alone and sinking himself into the depth of his thoughts desperately.

"Do I have to meet you only if I have something to tell Alex?" She questioned him.
She could feel him change. He was not the sweet caring Alex anymore. He was distancing himself away and she couldn't tolerate it. It hurt her deeply to see him disconnect people from his life.

"I dint mean it that way Rose, you can come here whenever you want." He said trying to amend his behaviour towards her.

"So did you have dinner?" He asked her.

"Yeah..I did. Did you have?"
She asked looking at him while he looked at the stars that twinkled brightly  above them. Her heart clenched itself again and again. She could never get tiered of looking at him.

"Am not hungry." He said still looking above them.

Rose could sense the pain radiating from him. She knew something was wrong.

"Is there anything that is disturbing you Alex?" She asked in a soft voice with a hope that he would open up to her.

Rose always knew what he felt , and it surprised him.

He turned towards her and saw her looking at the sky. She had left her hair loose and it moved  with the cold wind. Her smooth skin had a soft glow and he observed the soft smile on her beautiful pink lips as she looked at the sky draped with stars.
That moment something tugged his heart and he turned his head away closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. He wouldn't see her in that way. He couldn't love. He reminded himself again for the hundredth time.

"Rose, darling your mother is searching for you." Alexanders' mother said as she stood near the entrance of the back yard.

Rose turned back and looked at her while Alexander dint move an inch. He was deeply upset with his parents.

"Oh.. thank you , I will go now."

"Okay honey..good night." She said and smiled at her. She paused for a few seconds and looked at her son.

"Alex, come in. Its cold."

"I will."

Alex said in a emotionless detached tone to his mother without turning back. He was staring straight ahead of him where a few pots were kept and a huge wall was built.

"Get in soon."
She said and walked back.

He relaxed his shoulders and sighed.

Rose observed him while he kept his eyes closed.

"You never said what's hurting you Alex."
She wanted to be there for him, with him. Share his pain, so that he need not carry the whole burden of it.

"Your mother is searching for you Rose. You have to go." He said as he dismissed her.

"That doesn't matter Alex ,I can stay he...."

"Just go rose. I will talk to you tomorrow."

"Alex, I..."

"Please. Go."

Rose left a defeated sigh and got up from the bench. She knew he was in pain and did not want to leave him alone. Rose got up with a heavy heart, turned back and left without looking at him again.

But she did not know that the letter she wrote for him slipped out from her pocket and fell on the ground near his foot, since she hadn't tucked it inside her pant pockets properly . She was hurt that she couldn't speak to him for what she had actually come there for, but fate had other plans for her.

Alexander picked up the white sheet from the wet grass near his foot which was neatly folded. He scrunched his eyebrows in confusion as he wondered from where it came and started unfolding it.

Little did he know, that the letter would change two lives from that day on, forever...
